Point buying strategies?

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to ask about point buying strategies.
Again I am thinking about buying VGC and most contracts are for 200+ points. (I.E. No cheap contracts.)

Scenario #1:
I buy my fill directly at the VGC resort for the amount I need for my 5 day stay. (250 points)
Quick, easy, I pay premium on all my points. ($211/point)

Scenario #2:
Buy a cheaper VGC contract (less than 125 points) and add more points on from other contracts. (Not sure the rules and regulations behind this one)
I am not sure I am reading this right at all. Can I get the minimum at VGC and add more points from another "cheaper" contract to my VGC contract?
Can I get the best of both worlds? VGC 12 month window, 1 bedroom suite, and only 125 points are paid at the more expensive ($210/point) and rest of the points I can buy can be from a cheaper ($100/point) contract?
Is this allowed?

Are there any scenarios I am missing?
I am not sure if I am reading into this right?

BTW thank you to the DVC show for all the HUGELY helpful information!
I don't think I would have gotten this far without it.

Buying VGC direct..from what I have read...was not possible as they had no points to sell and they were not even putting people on a waitlist.

But, points have the priority, not the owner, So, the only points you can use at the 11 month window to book VGC during the home resort priority period are VGC points, regardless if you own elsewhere. Those other points are only eligible at 7 months or less to book.

IMO, if VGC is where you want to be, buy VGC. It isn’t like WDW where you can take your chances at the 7 month mark because there are no other resorts that can be stayed at if you don’t get all the nights.

Points only get the 11 month window at their home resort. If you plan on really only going to DL on a regular basis then get all your points at VGC.

Another option is to get a smaller contract at VGC and in another 3-4 years buy at the new Disneyland Tower Villas that are being built.

Just note when you buy resale at VGC it won't be able to be used at the new Disneyland resort. (most likely)

They are not. I recently asked, as I'd like to have a small GCV contract (I'm still weeping I didn't see that 50pt VGC Sep UY contract first!!), and figured my best chance was a direct purchase. But they are not putting anyone on the waitlist.

I'm hoping that maaaaaybe when DL Tower goes out, that the situation will change.

I think you’re asking if you can combine points from two resorts at 11 months (it’s not 12!)-if so, then no. Points retain their home resort priority and can’t be combined until 7 months, which is usually too late at GCV.

rest of the points I can buy can be from a cheaper ($100/point) contract?

LOL. If you find that contract, Disney will take it. That isn't the market value.

Disney does not have any VGC points right now, so direct is not even an option.

You can buy what pops up on resale, but you better be fast. You probably want to make a relationship with a broker at a big resale site so you can get a heads up, that's the only way you are going to get one, without getting lucky noticing a posting really quickly.
