You will not see an increase over the years. They can shift points around by season/room type...but they can't increase the point totals...each resort has a set number of points--and that can't change. Years ago, weekend points were almost double weekday points...they 'fixed' that by increasing the cost of weekdays and decreasing the weekend costs.
Instead of an increase in points...the dues go up every year--so you pay for it that way.
Over 20+ years of DVC, there have been 3 major point adjustments and yearly adjustments for holidays (IE: Easter/Spring Breaks).
I am one of those who were badly impacted by the point reallocation.
I went from having enough points to stay 27 nights per year to 22 nights per year. I usually stay in studios, on Sun through Thurs nights, at the lowest points cost seasons.
SSR had a major adjustment when the Treehouse Villas were added to that resort. Then again when DVC set-up preferred and standard rooms.
I was also impacted by the point shift when they reduced the weekend cost and increased the weekday cost. I used to get 12 nights in a 1 bedroom in Magic using only 1 weekend, and now I can only get 10 nights.
At SSR, the increased the points required for the Treehouse Villas. At first they were the same as a two bedroom villa. So somewhere, other points were reduced. The total number of points must remain the same.
They're likely due for a change. If you're looking at lower seasons (esp early Dec), studios, standard at Poly then I'd assume you will see a negative change at some point. IMO one should be a cushion anyway of 10-20% and sometimes more until you get to points in the 250-350 pt or so range. The more one is looking at studios, lower seasons and potential holiday times, smaller contracts and lower point resorts the more cushion one needs. For larger units (esp 1BR), Magic/Premier season and higher points resorts the less cushion one needs. Still for most I wouldn't go below around 150 points.
