We are trying to pick WDW resorts for next trip. Which do you like better? RS or FQ and why? THANKS! Sandra :cheer2:

I loved the lush greenery surrounding River side. It was great for those morning walks.

When it comes to Port Orleans the ONLY choice for us is the Riverside and in particular the Alligator Bayou.

We stayed at the Alligator Bayou 3 yrs. ago and it was the greenery that sold it for me. Simply beautiful and quaint.

I walked the plantation grounds as well as the French Quarter and was glad we were in the bayou.

If you can select one of the buildings in the bayou that's close to the main building it will also put you very close to Ol' Man island. We were in building 14 and were VERY pleased.

Hi Sandra, so nice to see you back here again. I do hope Emily is back on the road to recovery!

You know that I LOVED Dixie Landings (POR) and it's park-like atmosphere but I stayed at POFQ last summer with DisneyLisa and it is a beautiful resort too! I thought the newly refurbished rooms were as good as a deluxe, they were so pretty. The resort would be easier to get around, being so compact. We stayed in Building 4, right next door to the food court and close to the bus stop.

It's a hard choice to make, both resorts are so lovely!

Hi Julie ~ THANKS for the post! I am leaning towards FQ for my kids. I think they would love the pool. Has the whole FQ been refurbished? Evan will be 6 years old for the next trip! Emily will be 12 years old. We are planning April 2006 trip, however, we have to wait until we know Emily's surgery date. S

Stay at POFQ Feb05 and it was wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and I never found the food court THAT busy.

The store was really nice and the staff were great - even helped us stick on the stamps on the 25 postcards we sent!

Check in was a breeze and again friendly staff - the rooms were nice and quiet and the furnishings were beautiful (dark woods and yellow bedspreads and bathroom curtain - and I don't normally like yellow!)

We were in building 4 - on the 3rd floor right near the elevator and we didn't hear hardly a peep! I just can't say enough nice things about this hotel! :cheer2:

I have stayed in both resorts and they both have some very good points. I like the 'small world' feeling at the FQ but I also like to swim alot and they have just the one pool, which can get very crowded. When we stayed at the Riverside I never used the pool at Ol Man Island but the quieter pool near our room. We stayed in the Magnolia Building. The walk to the main area ( dining etc) was only a few minutes away and never seemed a hardship to walk over for drinks etc. Its always a hard choice to try something new when you like a previous place, so I wish you luck in your decision. We will be at the Riverside for ten nights starting the 21st of June. :cool1:  :Pinkbounc

POFQ will be more enjoyable and the theme is far better. We stayed at Riverside when it was Dixie and it felt like a retirement home so quiet and boring. But if I had the choice I would veto both of those for Coronado we loved that place especially teh dig site near the pool for the kids and the largest hot tub on Disney property.

We did CSR in 2002 for 10 nights and it was way too much time there. We loved CBR and only liked CSR. S

Yes Sandra, all of POFQ was refurbished and there is now a little fridge in the rooms. I think that you would really enjoy staying there. There's a nice path between the two resorts for walks along the river (there's also a horse-drawn carriage ride that I'd love to do sometime) and the Sassagoula River Cruise to DTD is one of my favourite things to do.

I can't believe that Evan will be 6 and Emily 12 years old!!

Hi Sandra:

I second the french quarter. We stayed there a couple of years ago and it is so pretty. Don't forget there is also a coffeemaker Julie and the maid leaves coffee in your room when she cleans, at least when we were there.

We did a split with the poly that year and it also had a coffee machine, but I had to phone housekeeping each day and tip the person who brought the coffee packets to the door each day. I don't mind tipping, but I just thought that the maid should leave the coffee packets in the room when she cleans like in the french quarter resort.

The room is beautiful, the furniture was nice also and the grounds are really nice. We often walked over to the riverside area, which is also nice. I think the smallness of the resort for your daughter would be nice too. Wishing the best for Emily, and sending hugs to you.

Deb.
