Podcast peeps who did AKL CL?

I have not been there in 3 years but it was amazing when we spent our 10 days there. We are booked CL for my mothers day present. I have seen some pretty harsh reviews on another site. How was your experience recently. I know some of you DVCers went there not to long ago. Did you do the sunrise safari while there? The price is now doubled in 3 years. I dont know if I should keep this ressie or take a Garden Wing room at CR.

Hey Liz -

We stayed at AKV Club Level 3 times in the last 2 years. Here's our experience over the past 3 visits. We stayed on DVC points.

The service by the club level concierge staff was top notch. They took very good care of us and did everything we needed. They even packed-up and shipped out some very large souveniers to our home back in Indiana. They were extremely wonderful.

The food, food offerings, and even the food service staff has gone down hill considerably. Our first stay some two years ago the food was top notch, not so much the second stay and the third stay was pretty bad. Most of the food we had in the evenings appeared to be microwaved appetizers and not cooked or perpared at Boma. The desserts were frozen and it even seemed to us they were microwaved in order to thaw them out.

My other problem was with the way the food wait staff was replacing the food. Many dishes were left empty for too long a time. I can't tell you how many times I had to wait until food was replenished. When it did get replenished it was gone quickly because so many people were waiting for food.

Continental breakfast and afternoon cookies and such were pretty basic. I'm really not trying to frighten you, but I have to be honest...The food and staff have gone downhill since our first visit.

I hope you have a wonderful time! Our family loves AKV because of the unique resort experience it provides. We will stay club level again simply because the amount of points it takes to book a room there is very reasonable. If you have any other questions please ask.

Hey Liz,

We stayed for 2 weeks in Aug 2009. That was our first AKL Conc stay. We thought it was wonderful. We didn't have any issues with the food and the service was top notch. But it was our first time there, so we have nothing to compare it too.

We did the sunrise safari and thought it was worth every penny. We had an amazing guide, who gave us lots of one-on-one attention.

I have to be honest though, I'm not a very good judge when it comes to food. It's just not that important to me. I could live on McD's So, I'll point Paul in the direction of this thread. He's our eater.

Howdy Liz, I'm in between Alicia and Aaron's opinion on AKL CL. I think staying CL is well worth it at AKL. The service and convenience of the club is amazing. I love the feel of AKL anyway so staying concierge just enhances the experience. The food is the only area where I have an issue. The desserts are great and there is always coffee, juice, soda or whatever you want to drink available. Breakfast is decent and so is lunch. The dinner offering was a little bit suspect IMO. Not a lot of effort put into it. We loved staying at club level and will do it again as soon as possible. I'd recommend it to anyone, even with the small problems it's great! The sunrise safari is awesome. Do it. The breakfast is big and tasty afterward. No complaints about the safari experience.

Thanks guys. I am doing it for the ease of breakfast and the Safari so it sounds like it will be OK for us. I really appreciate the honesty from everyone. Now if the Cappachino machine is broken we are gonna have issues.

We're renting DVC points for AKV for next spring. We were between savannah view and adding CL. Several people have posted that the view from the CL rooms are not as good as the savannah view rooms. Would love more input on that.

We've stayed CL twice at AKL and both times the savannah view was great. I don't know if every room has a view, but ours did.

Stay there last year. Going back again this year with the inlaws in Dec. before the PC 2.0 Amy and I were like kids in a candy store up there lol

I agree with Paul....The views are very good. You are up a bit higher, but it wasn't a problem for us. We could still see the animals very well.
