PodCast 4.0 Chit Chat

Just found out that FIL is having hip surgery in Nov, so they won't be going down to Tampa in Dec.

My question - do we stay at Dolphin for one night pre-cruise or stay close to port? How many DISers are staying at Dolphin?

I'll be at WDW Dec. 1-8, and I'm staying at the Swan.

I want to go to the Chacchoben Ruins in Costa Maya, and I'm trying to decide between the Tulum Ruins or the Secret River excursion in Cozumel. Since you mentioned where we'll be on 12-12-12 - maybe I ought to choose the Mayan ruins! :teeth:

Thought it was 12-21-12. :confused3

Apparently, there is a dispute among the Mayan end-of-worlders.:confused3

I agree with one of my partners at work who decided that they just tired of coming up with new calendars centuries in advance.

Well, now that we're officially signed on for PCC4, I could live without the end of the world thing (!), so I'm happy to stick with the 21st. ;)

XO
Liz

Well, I get to be on the ship if it happens on either date. LOL. Best get my house in order just in case. (We're moving before the cruise)

Nancy- you seem to be picking the same excursions we have so far.

I guess I'm not the only one who is confused. I still think the 12-12-12 is cool- even if the world will continue for another 9 days! ;)

Great minds think alike! :teeth:

I hope it's 12-21. That way I'll get to finish the cruise, plus my 2 days at WDW post-cruise!

I haven't even checked out excursions yet. This will be my first Caribbean cruise, so I definitely will want to explore. :) Oh, and tour companions would be awesome! :goodvibes

I'm really wanting to do the swim with dolphins thing in Cozumel, but I'm a little afraid to. I've signed up to swim with the dolphins on 2 previous cruises. The first one, I got a corneal abrasion on the flight down to San Juan, and had to stay out of the water for several days, so I had to cancel. The second one, I had a blood clot a few weeks before, and my doctor made me cancel the swim with dolphins because I was on blood thinners. :( It seems a bit like tempting fate to sign up for it a 3rd time.

I would strongly recommend doing the Tulum ruins tour at Cozumel and Stingray City at Grand Cayman! We have done these excursion in '08 with Disney and they were great!

As for the companion part: we should look into doing some (other) tours together.

We got an email from isney l;ast night announcing we could go look at Port Adventures.

LOL- already done that

I was glad to figure out that even as much of a planner as I am -I don't come close to the Overplanner's Anonymous group.

But I would like the master planning list- that would be cool.

Our first Caribbean cruise too.
I have looked at the excursions only a little. I kept saying I'll do more after 3.0. And here we are- it's after 3.0 and time to get planning!!
We'd love to do a couple things with others- the more, the merrier!! :cool1:

We also did Tulum and really enjoyed it, its a gorgeous location. We also did Chacchoben and both sets of ruins are very different from each other.

I had a quick look at the excursions available and see there are other ruins available so we may do those.

Otherwise most of the shore excursions don't spin my wheels. I can't think of anything worse than a sandy beach - its my idea of hell. I detest sand. :)

Not sure for Grand Cayman, might need to do our own thing there possibly.

As an aside, our WDW passes arrived in the post today! Woohoo, not long now!

researching costa maya excursion's all day.....settled on tropicante! found a lot of great reviews on tripadvisor and on the disboards cruise thread. You take a cab ride there, they reserve you chairs on the beach for free, you order food drinks through them, and vendors will offer excursions right there, beach area looks beautiful and you can see the cruise ship from it. I was looking for a very affordable few hours at the beach that wasnt ai since we are doing ai the next day at nochi cocum. I emailed the owner and he has chairs left for our date, if anybody is interested I will post the link :)

Y'all are so adventurous.

Not planning on doing excursions. The only one that looks interesting to me is Tulum. But it's definitetly NOT handicap-friendly.

Us either. We just went on a western in Oct & did excursions at all 3 ports (although Key West was in our own). Costa Maya is a new port for us, but in Dec., it's too cold for our Florida blood to do any beach excursions. We may get off at Grand Cayman, as DD likes the pool/slide/hot tub at Margaritaville. Depending on the weather, DH may get off to photo walk at places, but I'd be perfectly happy with 6 sea days and a CC day LOL! This cruise is all about post-Thanksgiving & pre-Christmas relaxation, enjoying all of the decorations, the ship, & enjoying our big verandah!!!

I'll be saving excursions for our next eastern in March...

I would love to hear from those that have done a western before. With living near Seattle this may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for us.

So many things we want to do and with the timeframe-- only one thing possible per city.

Are there certain excursions that are available in other cities so could wait? not available in other cities that makes them unique and only available on this cruise?

I would consider Tulum a don't miss - it was gorgeous! It was sweltering hot last time we were there and it would be much nicer in December I think.

Yup. Double portholes, tho, not a veranda.

Been there, done that .... We'll buy Mexican vanilla at Cozumel and knick-knacks for friends.
Main reason we're on this cruise is the Podcast Crew.
