Firework around here lose their luster over the Derby Festival Opening Ceremony Firework Display (www.thunderoverlouisville.org) which is the largest display in North America.

Everything else pales in comparison.

Yeah, I can see where even Illuminations and Wishes combined would not match Thunder.

Can you watch it from a distance so you are not in a mob of people and you don't get stuck in hours of traffic?

Does this kinda look like Todd on his lost all motivation to work day?

The Detroit-Windsor Freedom Festival Fireworks are "one of the world's largest fireworks displays."

They've scaled back in the recent years, since Target has become the major corporate sponsor. But back in the day, they lit up the city like it was daylight. And viewing from the Canadian side of the river was always better. Kinda like Niagara Falls, the Canadians have all the good natural stuff.

From what I can tell...There seems to be about 10 of us Dis peeps at work and posting today!

I am at work all day today....

tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock....:rolleyes1

sooooo...whats for lunch?

The fireworks show in Indianapolis is always impressive, although it may not be one of the largest. The fireworks are shot from one of the tallest buildings in downtown, so, if you are right downtown they are directly over you (amazing). Plus they can be seen from some distance away, so it's the best of both worlds. They go on for about 30 minutes and a they are set to music played by a local radio station. Because we live downtown, we sit in our yard and watch. We can't see everything because of some big trees, but we can see most of it and there's no traffic involved. :)

Three days off from work coming up - YAY! :cool1:

Tomorrow should be along bike ride. Hope it is not too, too hot.

Will visit friends at their "camp" on a lake SUnday.

The worst thing about Independence Day for me is hearing fireworks in the distance and wishing I was watching them. Even worse is when I am watching them, and I am so disappointed. They are so weak compared to what I saw at Walt Disney World.

My favorite thing about every day is the that I can watch the Epcot 25th anniversary fireworks on my iPod anytime! Thanks DIS Unplugged video. I am hoping they Pete does a video podcast of the summer night-tastic fireworks.

I love comparing the size of fireworks displays.

So what I want to know is how do you measure the size of a fireworks display. :rolleyes1

Have a happy and safe Fourth everyone.

I think it is based on the number of shells used and the size of the shells used added to the total length of the show.

I know at Thunder, they fire off as many shells in the finally segment as the do in the previous 25 minutes of the 30 minute show.

I have some roast beef and au jus over egg noodles with a side of sauteéd garlic noodles. (Yes they both have egg, so they are legally noodles in accordance with federal regulation.)

Left over Chinese: sesame chicken w/ white rice & steamed dumplings & a big cup of Crystal Light Cherry Pomegranate.

I think I'd rather not be here though & at home having a nice cold Sam Adams on my deck

Sounds like a question for Paul ;)

Haven't been to lunch yet... not sure where I am going.

I have been trying to program a Variable Data postcard using a feature I have not used before. Nothing like trial and error to see if I can make it work..

I grabbed a taco salad and some grapes downstairs in the cafeteria and brought them back up to my desk so I could listen to the DIS Boards edition of the podcast during lunch.

As an aside (related to one of the topics from the podcast), while I don't often dream of Walt Disney World, I've found that I do have dreams with other DISers I've met/spent time with in them, just doing normal stuff, but with me in "the regular world" instead of at WDW. Example: Last week I dreamt that Todd, Tonya, and I were walking down the street in Times Square in NYC at night admiring all of the lights. Bizarro - right? These dreams always make me smile.

Summer Nightastic - these fireworks seem more like the Disneyland fireworks. We got to see the Disneyland fireworks on our ABD trip in April and they were amazing! So much more amazing than even Wishes, and I hadn't thought that could be topped. They were immersive (from all sides of your view) and there was a lot of special lighting on and action at the (tiny little) castle. It sounds like WDW has taken some of that technology to Florida.

That sounds wonderful. Plus you don't have to deal with the those that have been "partying" all day either.

I think that's why I could never do Time's Square on NYE - I'd probably haul off and hit some drunk and then I'd be the one arrested

Summer Nightasitic

I wish I could get there this Summer to see it - there has been talk that they might extend it - but I won't be at the World til October 15th - so I doubt it will still be showing

Call me crazy, but I hope some aspects of Summernightastic end up being like Year of a Million Dreams...and stay on for longer than there initially announced run..
