Just curious.

Is it strange, weird, odd, etc., going to this resort now or in the very near future given what's happened in New Orleans?

I'm not looking for a debate.........just interested in what people think.

Our family stayed there in 2001. (we were actually starting to check out the morning of 9/11).
I loved the resort and would look at it in a positive light. New Orleans will be back, and that since you happen to be going to this specific resort, it should not make you feel any different, as if you were going to any other of the Disney resorts to stay. Not trying to be insensitive to anyone or any circumstances, just looking ahead.

I LOVE I LOVE POFQ!! It will not be strange or weird or odd if we stay there again anytime soon. I LOVE this resort! What had happened in New Orleans is the fact.. the reality and my heart and prayers goes out to those who were effected. But this is a Disney resort... and I love and enjoy staying at POFQ. I'm not being insensitive.. I just love the look.. and the feel of POFQ. If I am going to pay Disney... I might as well enjoy and have fun where I am staying at.

We are going to stay there in December and I am looking forward to it. At first I kinda thought the same thing you did, but I think it will be great to see what the disney version of POFQ is going to be like. And I just know that the original NO will be restored to its original glory. Best wishes to all involved in the Katrina recovery.

It's a lovely resort, I've stayed there 4x in the past and I'll be there in Oct. and Dec. In retrospect, I feel like in a small way it's honoring New Orleans to be staying there... not odd at all.

I am shopping around today to switch resorts. I just don't see how it will be fun or magical to be there in November with the constant reminder of Katrina and LA all around.

I know New Orleans has been destroyed, but watching news last night showed the French Quarter had very little damage.

One of the reasons we chose to stay here was to experience the beauty of New Orleans without all the wild partying that we always heard went on there. We are going in Jan. and I am looking forward to it even more now. I am glad there is a place that is a bit of a replica for all of us to see but also for (hopefully someday) the people who actually lived there to be reminded of how it once looked.

I'll be there in 9 days. I'm not thinking twice about going. I want to enjoy the NO atmosphere without the partying and POFQ is the answer. NOLA will be back so I'm gonna enjoy myself at FQ.

We'll be there soon and it certainly made me think that it might be a little sad but then I thought what point would it be not to stay there? It's not disrespectful-it's actually a nice tribute to a beautiful spot in our country that will hopefully be returned to it's original splendor.

Should we avoid everything associated with N.O.? Cajun food? Ignoring stuff doesn't make it go away. This country needs to face the facts and pull together to help those victims, not pretend they don't exist.

I was born & raised in the NOLA metro area, actually about ten minutes from the Convention center & downtown area. My family still lives there and the Lafayette La area (SW Louisiana).

So as a bonafide cajun & NOLA native, please enjoy Port Orleans FQ & R. If you have been to NOLA before, celebrate your memories. Celebrate the NOLA that was & will be again, but different. It will always be unique, special , magical in its own way, even after they rebuild. As are the people from there.


My DH & I were able to spend one night at the POR and I thought it was beautiful & helped my homesickness a bit

NOLA will be rebuilt and the survivors will do just that.

FYI: Mom & her older brother w/ Alzheimers would not evacuate but are doing OK. They do not live in the flooded areas and should have electricity back up this week. They have been getting food & water from the Red cross--thank God! But still no phones. My sister' s family & her husband's family evacuated to three locations--they are now in MO. They are getting assistance also from the Red Cross. So please support it! And keep the prayers & good thoughts & pixie dust coming!!

As a new "Cajun" (I live in Lafayette, LA) and have visited NOLA many times, you will get a feel of NOLA, but nothing will ever compare to it, NOLA is a place of it's own. It's a feeling and besides I am sure POFQ buildings don't lean as much as the one's in the Quarter

We will be there next week and I'm sure we will have a great time. I don't see what the theming of a resort has to do with a horrible tragedy. We all grieve for those that are suffering but to cancel a vacation or change a resort does not compute with me. Life must go on. JMHO

Going in March and I was actually glad that my grandkids picked PO after all that happened!! We have never been to NO so now we can see Disney's version of it!!

It just occured to me yesterday the connection between Katrina and POFQ. I've just been watching the news reports and hadn't thought about the connection to my trip. I've found myself having to turn off the news after a while because it's making me feel horrible (almost numb) about what's happened to all the people in the area. I especially was very troubled after watching Oprah on Tuesday.

That being said, we're staying there Sept. 18-24 and don't plan on changing our plans. I've never been to NO but had planned to go one day soon. Now I guess I'll have to wait a little while longer but I can always go to POFQ. My sister has been twice (recently this May) and absolutely loves NO. She was very happy to see on the news that the French Quarter and the Garden District weren't destroyed.

8 days to go to Florida, 11 days to POFQ!!

I'll be at the POFQ coming this December with my family. I can't wait! I made my reservations at POFQ because it was an instant attraction. I made the reservations back early August of this year.

After Katrina, I must admit I did get this eery feeling but I thought to myself why? Now, I look forward to staying there even more so. I have never been to NO LA and now I feel POFQ will be the closest thing I'll ever get to LA.

I hope someday after the mess is all cleaned up, I will be able to vist the real thing!!

We stayed at POFQ over Labor Day weekend, arriving 4 days after Katrina made landfall in NO. Things seemed a little more subdued than usual, but it could have just been my perception. Someone had mentioned that there was some kind of tribute/memorial set up or to be set up, but I did not see it.

I love POFQ, it is my 2nd favorite. I will be going in a few weeks and will be meeting up with a friend who lost everything from New Orleans. She asked if they could come over for breakfast of beignets and cappucino. She wants to feel like a bit of home.
