Purchasing OTUP/Membership vs Contracts

Did you mention resale? Most of just stated they wanted to buy it for xx use year which was resale and they were letting them. I don’t have any first hand experience as I just have one use year but that was what many had reported over there
I should mention that I was specifically trying to book a reservation at the Villas at the Disneyland hotel, and as a restricted resort that may have required a membership with direct points to book, but perhaps I could be mistaken there.

Well anyone can buy OTUP and they aren’t restricted but of course with that situation the room would have to be 24 points or less which is a hit or miss at VDH. However it might just be as you pointed out you were adding OTUP to a non VDH resale. @Girlstar30 had tried to use them at RIV but wasn’t able to either from her O14 resale contracts.

I was able to purchase them with the BOGO in a UY that I have that does have direct points and they worked to get the 20 point room.

I don’t follow that poster because they were extremely rude to me, but my guess is that it was probably a similar issue that they were trying to use one time use points in a membership that didn’t have any direct points, but I could be wrong.

Should have been more clear, yes, just wondering if financially whether MBB creates a "no brainer" situation to get more points cheaper. People are good on these forums at maximizing value :)

We ended up buying them because I had a need for my own points and wanted to use points for the AP.

Whether I will do the same in 2026? I don’t know because I may have enough of my own points to do my AP renewal and cover all my trips …and then some.

I would rescind that resale contract and look for something that’s in your same Feb UY.
Second this!!

If you’re not sure about all the ins and outs of D\/C, and you are planning to use the points together on the same trips as your VGF points you should definitely rethink the separate Use Year!!

@AstroBlasters, @D-Trick, and @Chili327 I really appreciate the issues you bring up with differences in UY. Thank you! DH and I have given the different UY year issue lots of thought, and I've done a lot of research on the pros and cons of having different UYs. I even posted a thread a while back asking about the good, the bad, and ugly of it. We've been "stalking" resale Crescent Lake contracts for a while and while the goal was to have the same UY, we just haven't found the exact contract we want with a February UY. With Crescent Lake contracts expiring in 2042, and after a year of looking, and knowing the time it takes to pass ROFR and close, we feel the clock ticking. The good news is that we feel like the contract we are purchasing fits our needs really well. We understand that we will have to take some extra steps of transferring points between memberships if we want to use our GF and BWV points together. The goal was to have sufficient points that we won't have to do that a whole bunch. And, we actually like the idea of having two different memberships for extra waitlist opportunities.

@VGCgroupie thanks so much for posting the threads about OTUP and MMB. I will definitely dive into those threads! We purchased the MMB not only for the BOGO OTUP, but for the "fast pass" access on the lounges at Epcot and MK; we are taking a three generation trip in June, and I think this will come in handy with my elderly folks who will be thrilled to take a break inside two different parks.

You all are what makes the Disboards so great! I love that folks really look out for one another! Thank you, thank you!:flower1::love:

I do, 99+240=339. 339/24 = 14.125. Then add in that you can buy the points and membership with gift card and that brings the cost per point down further. I have plenty of points but I don't even think my direct points cost me less than 14 dollars per point. I use them on the summer trips, this year because we're WDW locals, we're using the points on passes.

With the renewal being 987 for cash per pass and 65 points per renewal.

987/65 = 15.18. 15.18>14.125. So it's worth it to buy the BOGO points. Currently keeping the cash means more to me than the points and it's nice to avoid having to rent them out and etc.
I was able to buy the OTUPs themselves with a gift card a couple weeks ago. I got the gift card at ~15% off last year, so it made them $17 per point, which was a pretty nice deal. If you did this with MMB as well, it would make them just $12 per point, which is about the same as the cost+dues on my contract.

You have to call MS and ask them to use the otup to book at a blocked resort, they will do it! You can get a studio at riv for multiple nights if you have multiple memberships, 3 in my case!
