Plywood cut out characters

Very nice job! So tell us, what did you use for source images? How did you enlarge them? I especially like the Donald. Again, very good job!

This site has a ton of images. The only issue is that they are in Encapsulated Post Script (EPS) format.

This format is not like a jpg. Its the type of file that professional illustrators use which is a good thing. They are vector or drawn type images not raster images. Here is a full explanation of the difference.

You need a program such as Adobe Illustrator to edit them which starts around $500. I found this free program to edit them but I don't know much about it.

Awesome job, cnlmom!!!!!! They look GREAT!!!!!

Thank you for your kinds words, I am pretty happy with how they came out and for all the advice that was given. At first I purchased an inexpensive opaque projector from Michaels, and frankly it did not meet my needs. It enlraged the image 5 times, which I thought was enough but the original image had to be so tiny that 5 times really did not do much and it was blury...so back to the store it went. I was lucky and a friend of dh had a projector type thing for the computer to do powerpoint in, so he let us use that to magnify the image. I got my disney art from this site http://www.disneyclips.com/ which I use quite a bit. I just saved the image into word and he was able to project it. I traced in on the plywood, dh cut it out with a jigsaw and I sanded the sides like Shan-man suggested and I also painted the back black to make it easier with the outlines being black (thank you for that advice!!).
When choosing the character and pose, I looked for one that did not seem to difficult to cut out. I probably will not have time to do anymore before our trip next month, but I would like to do more in the future. I really want to do Musket Mickey, Thumper, Chip n Dale, Lady and the Tramp and one of those little green Martian guys from Toy Story. I do not know what I will do with them all, as it will be a few to many to take camping with us all the time, perhaps I will junk up my garden with yard art. The kids have a "fairy trail" in our backwoods, and I think I also will need a tinkerbell to go there!
Thanks for all the help and for letting me share my work.

Wow!! Great job!!!:thumbsup2 I will have to make sure DW does not sneak a peek at them or she will make me buy new jigsaw blades and work on the weekends!!!

I know this thread is old, but some may search for the topic... anyway, projectors are becoming readily available due to school technology changes... I found a real good one for $20 off the craigs website......

They all look great. Way more artistic talent than I have. My Mickey would turn out as a stick man with ears.:sad2:
