I read in the paper yesterday that back in February a 38-year-old man, dressed as Pluto, was caught between a couple floats, and ended up run over and killed by one in WDW. Apparently it happened as a Parade was getting ready to start. That's horrible! Did anyone else see this?

Yes, it was all over the news and all over these boards when it happened. It was very sad.

Yes, I read about it when it happened. Seems that Disney is good at keeping things minimally publisized (SP?). Someone was killed on Big Thunder Railroad last Aug also (I beleive in DL). I didnt hear to much about that story either in the news.

It made the news yesterday because a settlement was made to the family.

I dont know much about fines...... but doesnt that seem like a tiny amount considering someone died!!!!

The accident happened in the area just before the parade enters the route in Frontierland so no guests should have seen anything.

It is very sad that he died but I think that Pluto was somewhere he wasn't supposed to be and got caught up in the multi-part float.

He was in between two parts of the multi-part float when it started to move.

Just because someone dies doesn't mean that someone is going to have to cough up a bunch of money. If I go to the roof of a 10 story building and jump off, should the building owner pay anything to my family? No, they shouldn't.

I'm not saying that this is the case here but just because there was a death doesn't mean that Disney is at fault.

This was very sad :(

I'm going to move this to our community board for you.

I too am not saying that it was Disney's fault..I dont know..but I do find it strange that a company such as Disney was fined such a small amount.

Both stories, at the time, and on follow up, were covered quite extensively, both locally and nationally, but probably no more than any other death would be in similar circumstances, had it been any other company, as it should be. On second thought, they probably were covered to a higher degree than other deaths might have been, given the company.

So you think a company that has a lot of money should be fined more than a company that doesn't? The fine is based on what they found to be out of compliance. There is a fine attached to that and if the company is out of compliance, they receive the fine. Think of it this way, if you make $1,000,000.00 a year and I make $10,000.00 a year and we both get a speeding ticket, should you have to pay more just because you make such a large amount of money? No, if the fine is $60 bucks, it's $60 bucks regardless of the financial status of the person receiving it.
