Plus size models...PLEASEEEEE!!!

than look like this.. and she can say she's not anorexic all she wants, but please, look at her head in relation to her body!
Pirates-Caribbean-female2.jpg

I always thought she looked naturally thin in her earlier movies, but that just looks icky!! She really needs to gain weight!! :scared:

At 155 and 5'9", I wore size 8. I guess it is in how an individual frame carries it.

I agree, size varies among frames.

I was 185, 5'4, and wore a 14. I could wear some 12s.

I'm 140 now and wear a 6. When I was 125 I wore a 6. Weird how that happens...

Just depends on your body structure and how much muscle you have!

I think it's really funny that this came up, because I had this very conversation with my manager today! I work in a plus-sized clothing store (with sizes 14-32, by the way, but we're about to move down to 12:sad2: ) and I had to dress up the bustforms today. I took took the clothes in 14 and had to pin and clip them to keep them in place. The pants were falling right off the hips! I told my manager we owe it to our customers to show them the clothes on an accurate model, but she told me these are the biggest mannequins available! They're a 10, maybe 12 at the VERY MOST! :headache:

I'm a size 24 right now and don't shop online at all because all my weight is in my hips and butt and I have to try things on to know how they will look on me! I'm working on getting the weight off (lost 9 pounds so far) and am a little sad right now. That is because when I get to size 12 I'm still going to be plus size! I have a long way to go!!

Congratulations!! That's a great start! Back in July I was a size 24 too, and (as I'm proudly displaying in my signature) I've now lost 30 lbs! (With plans to lose another 70) It's really hard, but isn't it an amazing feeling when you see those numbers on the scale? Keep up the good work!!

At 155 and 5'9", I wore size 8. I guess it is in how an individual frame carries it.

I'm also 5'9", and at 155-160, I'm in a size 8 (using jeans sizes for reference). I have to get down to a nearly-stick-thin (for me) 130 lbs. to even think about a size 6. On the flipside, at 170 lbs, I'm a size 10. My problem is that I have a larger bone structure with a muscular build, especially in my lower body, from years of dance. I also have wide hips and I will never, ever have skinny thighs. EVER. It's just not possible for my body to become thin enough to get into anything smaller than size 6 jeans without looking sickly. On the other hand, at 155-160 lbs. I'm thin enough in my shoulders and waist to wear size 6 in dresses... even at my all time heaviest weight, I still never went above a 30-inch waist measurement! Serious hourglass here.

Anyhoo... everyone is built differently. Weight is such an arbitrary number in most cases. Height, musculature, fat deposits, etc. all must be accounted for when comparing sizes. Not to mention, so many designers sizes are wildly different! In some things I can wear a size small, in others, I need an extra-large! Needless to say, I have to try EVERYTHING on before buying. :headache:

Oh, and whoever said a size 12 is plus size... whatever. And I'm sure you're a perfect size 2 sitting there at your computer, being a little Judgy McJudgerson. :sad2:

There's no way!

When I wore a size 12, I weighed 140 and I'm 5'8". Sounds like she's less than honest about her size.

I am 5'4" and when I weighed 175, I was in size 12. My friend who is 5'5 weighs 135 and she's in a size 6, sometimes 8. She doesn't wear her clothes tight and neither did/do I. Everyone is different, I guess.

There are many successful plus sized models besides Emme. First person who comes to mind is Kate Dillon, who starved herself to be a size 8 so she could model. Poor thing was anorexic and her agents were screaming at her to lose MORE weight, meanwhile she was 6 feet tall. I'm 5'10" and at my skinniest most Olive Oil weight I was a size 8 and its NOT a good look. ?

My sister is 5 ft 10, 115 pounds and a size 0:scared1:

I'm 5 ft 3 140 pounds and wear an 8..I want to be a 6 by my wedding, lol..It's time to lose that 15 pounds
I can't believe I'm saying wedding

I believe it's possible for someone to be that heavy and wear a 12. I'm living proof! I am VERY, VERY muscular for a woman. People consistently guess my weight as at least 40 lbs. less than it is, and they have done so since I was 12. I have a large, heavy frame and so much muscle it's almost scary.:scared1: A pediatrician actually told my mother I needed to LOSE 40 lbs. when I was that age, based on the charts, and she got mad and told him to LOOK AT ME. He did, and realized that NOWHERE on my body did I have any pockets of extra fat. I wasn't even a little bit soft. Anywhere. All muscle. I was very athletic and fit and actually very average-sized--I didn't look the least bit overweight. But the charts said I was OBESE!:rolleyes1 I ignore all those charts now and just try to stay fit. I need to work on it since having my son and a c-section that kinda destroyed my tummy (ugh!) but when I weighed 140 I was wearing a 10 and looked GREAT in it!:woohoo:
Just for reference, the charts say I should weigh about 120 lbs. I don't think it's possible for me to weigh that little without being hospitalized, seriously! Some women just have frames or body types that will never allow them to be a size 4, and that's okay. I think anyone who doesn't like my size can shove it, anyway.:rotfl:

Opposite of the person above - I've had people guess my weight 40 pounds above what I weigh! Not thrilling at all. I think it's largely (no pun intended) because I carry my weight in my top half and have a thin rear end and legs - apple shaped. At 5'5" and 125 pounds I wear a size 10. (That's not my current weight, but current enough to know the size I'd wear!)

While I love "craptastically"........I'm sitting here laughing out loud at "Judgy McJudgerson". That's a new one for me I guess! :lmao:

I have nothing of real value to add to this discussion except to say I agree... I think they should use real sized models to model plus sized clothing.

No doubt. At my lowest weight of 128 and 5'4" tall, I was in a size 11. I was skin and bones, but I have a large frame. My ideal weight is closer to the 140s. I looked horrible when I was below 130.

Same here. I'm 5'2" and when I weighed 110, I STILL wore a 12 because I am very muscular and large framed. In fact, my doctor tells me to follow the men's weight chart because my frame is so large (I have 44 inch shoulders!). I wore a 16 wedding dress (because I am large busted). people routinely guess my weight as 30 to 50 pounds BELOW what I weigh.

I gained quite a bit of weight after my hubby died from Paxil and am working to take it off. However, my BP is low (100 over 60), cholesterol is low and hdl is very high (over 100..it's actually75% of my cholesterol reading, which is reverse of what hdl and LDL usually is). . My doc is not worried if I don't lose weight.

Two of my SILs are the same height as I, but still wore the same size I did when they were 20-25 pounds lighter. Because I have a bust (they do not) they used to give me clothes that were 3 sizes too big. :rotfl: Their shoulders and hip bones are much larger than mine. They are both around 100 pounds now, but still wear size 8s. (and yes, they are underweight, but always have been)

It truly depends on how you carry it. I'm 5'10" and when I weighed 135 lbs, I was in a size 0, maybe a 2. Now I'm 235 lbs (yikes!) and I'm a size 16 or 18, depending on the brand.

If a COMPANY demands a product like a mannequin from a supplier, that supplier WILL deliver. Your company spends a lot of $$$$$ with mannequin suppliers, so if they really wanted plus size mannequins, they would get some.

Just me 2 cents.

I just want the pics showing the slothes to be plus size...that's not a lot to ask.

I don't think you can look at a clothing size and judge what it's *supposed* to look like just based on the number (12/14/16 whatever).

The model in the OP could be wearing a 12 or 14 if she's super tall and has a large frame. A woman who is 5'3" and wearing a 12 or 14 is probably going to look heavier than a taller woman wearing the same size. It's just proportion, really.

I am 6'0" and wear a 12, though I'm still fairly thin. In my early 20s I starved myself to the point of being sent to the hospital with heart problems, but I was still wearing a 6/8 even though I was stick skinny.

That's always ticked me off at Lane Bryant. Not a realistic impression of the clothes at all.

It is all about body shape.

Adoptive mommies sometimes pack on the pounds too. :rolleyes1

At 5'2" and 145 lbs., I wore a size 12. Two years and two children later, at 175 lbs., I wear a 16.

Baby got back! :rotfl2:

Plus-size. Junior. Misses. Whatever. As long as I can breathe in my pants, I'm good. :lmao:
