Pleasure Island with 9 and 11 year old??

Hi,
DH and I are bringing my two cousins to WDW the first week in May.They're 9 and 11, although they'll be almost 10 and 12 when we go. Anyway, I was wondering if the girls will be able to go to Pleasure Island? I know they can't go to BET or Motions, but what about 8 Trax or Rock n Roll Beach Club? When I went in Feb. of 03 I seem to remember a mom and dad that had their 2 daughters in one of the clubs, the girls were maybe 13.

I've heard nothing but good things, but I would feel guily leaving them at one of the child care places while we went to PI :shrug:

You will get lots of opinions on this one. It is a group of bars with lots of drinking going on. I absolutly would not take children that age but that is just my thinking. Others find an early visit to be fine for children that age and that is fine too. I think that you should talk with their parents first and get thier views. I would be very upset if someone took my child to a bar with out my knowledge. But to answer you question, there are some places that they are allowed though I am not sure which ones. If you choose to go ,pick a week-night, go early and leave early.

Thanks for the feedback, Jordan's mom. If we did go, it would definitely be an early thing, not only are DH and I not night owls, but I know how busy it gets after 10. I was thinking of going from 7-9 on a Monday night, that way the kids can also play some of the carnival games, and it wouldn't be too busy.

Take'em. This is DW, it is pro family, there are children everywhere and even the comedy club is rated G. We took our 4 year olds there from 8pm to 11pm and never saw any drunks. There is a beach style club that had a dance floor packed with dads and daughters dancing. There is also many stores, face painting, carnival games, outside entertainment....etc.....If one place is a little rowdy just go next door. If your family is moraly opposed to kids seeing adults with liquor in their hands then maybe it isnt for you. But if exposing them to people responsibly drinking isnt offensive then go.......TAZ

My kids are the same ages. I don't think I'm quite ready to take my kids there yet. I'm not ready for them to be introduced to the more adult entertainment yet. The one time my DH and I went to Pleasure Island, we left the kids at Neverland at the Poly. They LOVED it. They have asked to go back....and this year will be the last chance (if we do go to WDW) because of their ages. -HM

I do'nt think it's an appropriate venue for kids. The dancers can get a bit risque, and it's an adult environment. Especially now that there's no cover to get in unless you want to enter one of the bars.

IMHO the Boardwalk has more family oriented entertainment.

As far as leaving them, how about letting them go to Disney Quest for a couple of hours while you go to PI? With dire warnings about leaving the building and staying together it might be OK.

The outside dancers get risque? It's not any worse than they'd see on MTV. The inside bar /place where they might dance dirty is off limits to kids anyways.

You will find the later it gets in the evening the more adult it becomes. This is definitely an adult nighttime complex. Disney will tell you that is how they describe it. The jokes at Adventurers Club and the Comedy club do have adult type comedy. PI is a club atmosphere with that type of drinking and entertainment occurring. I agree with Mom to Jordan not the place for children. You might want to investigate a fun evening for them at the Cub's Den, Sandcastle Club or Neverland Club. They will enjoy that more.

I agree - the kids are young enough to enjoy the activities and arcades at Simba's Clubhouse, Neverland Club, Mouseketeers Club, etc. and might like a chance to hang around with other kids without their family hovering for awhile.

It's not that there's likely to be anything offensive or inappropriate in the early shows at Comedy Warehouse or AC, but it's bringing kids that age into a group of people who have been drinking and partying for a while. Disney can control the content of its shows but no one can predict the conduct of the clientele - the kids could be exposed to behaviour and language from guests that you would rather they hadn't. Also, guests who came to enjoy themselves and get involved in the shows may feel uncomfortable with kids around. JMHO...

PI is not meant for kids.

I would not take kids there. No ifs ands or buts about it. PI is an adult complex, meant for adults. I dont think minors should be there.

You can go during the day when the shops & some of the games are open if you want the kids to play or shop.

If you want to go at night take then to the Boardwalk. That is family friendly.

Leave PI for the adults.

My 2 boys are 9 and 11, and I wouldn't bring them to PI.

I also would not leave them unsupervised in DisneyQuest -- they are too young to be totally responsible for themselves. That place can be very busy, kids are easily separated, and there could be many issues that may come up that they would need an adult. I think the idea of having them go to the supervised "clubs" at the resorts is your best bet.

I agree with the thought that children really shouldnt be at PI. I know they are allowed, and I know that they see worse on T.V. but I wouldnt intentionally subject my children to 1,000 drunk strangers.

Not to mention adults go there to be adults and not to be around children.
