Ted just booked two tickets on USAIR for our April trip. We were supposed to save money and drive, but we did okay with Orbitz. I just want to hear any good and bad experiences you have all had with USAIR.

Thanks,

Holly

I flew US Airways on my trip over the New Year. We had no problems, just a delay going out (due to it taking a LONG time for boarding, some of the passangers didn't have their photo id, too large of carryons, etc --- normal stuff! we also had to be de-iced, so that took some time). The flights were very comfortable, it was nice to be able to streach out! (we were in first class). Basicly, everything went well. We always fly US Airways, and usually never have any problems (except when I end up getting stuck in the middle seat of the last row of coach! :D).

Have fun!!!

We have been using USAir out of Philadelphia for years. My husband flies USAir weekly for business and is a Chairman with them from all the business trips taken. We have 2 children and fly USAirways for all our vacations, yearly to WDW. We flew USAir to Los Angeles, CA, with the boys in 1996, no problems. We will be flying USAir this August to WDW for 10 days (can't wait!). USAir's major hubs are Philadelphia, Pittsburgh (beautiful airport) and Charlotte, North Carlonia. Some things have definitely changed since 9/11, as with most airlines. Meals are only served on very long trips usually, 5-6 hour flights. They do serve a snack (peanuts, snack mix or pretzels) and a small drink (soda, juice, water, coffee, etc.). So if you have kids you may want to bring some snacks with you on the plane. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

Holly,

There are some comments about US air on the Air Tran thread on the first page.

We've been flying USAir for years out of Allentown and Philly. Though we have had our share of flight delays, etc. with them, I would say they have been just fine. I could recall positive as well as negative incidents with them, with the latter not being much more than annoying. We flew a few weeks after 9/11, and with flight cancellations and rescheduling, I was rather peeved with some things, but in the end, the flights were fine and I was able to sit with my 2 &4 y.o. children! OTOH, we had been abandoned in FL by a charter outfit, and the US Air rep was able to get us home on a Sunday flight, during spring break, direct to Philly, for what I thought was a reasonable cost for last minute/on the spot reservations.

So, I'd encourage you to try them out!

They are my first carrier of choice (CO being second). I fly them proabably about 65% of the time. I've flown them twice since the beginning of the year, once PHL/MCO and once EWR/LAS. Generally I've been more than satisfied with them. When I have had issues, I've felt that they did value my business and resolved the problem to my satisfaction.

Thanks for all the opinions. We are definitely flying on USair so we'll see for ourselves in April.

Herc- I checked out the Airtran thread. THanks for the tip!!!

My DW and I have flown USAir twice from Allentown, PA, to Orlando and will be doing so again in April. We have a friend who works for the airline in Allentown and he had a surprise waiting for us when we arrived in December of 2000. We were going down to WDW to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary and when we boarded the plane we found out we had been upgraded to First Class for the entire trip! The employees/crew had all signed a large Anniversary Card which was taped to the bulkhead in front of us and they gave us a bottle of champagne! It was great!.
Since the 11th, things have changed though. There is no longer non-stop service from Allentown to Orlando so we have to take a shuttle flight to Philadelphia and go from there. Coming back, we have to land in Pittsburgh and change planes.
We have had only good experiences with USAir's service, so far. Have a great trip!

Although our last flight on USAir was in Dec., 2000 I can easily recommend them. We didn't use them on our last trip because they no longer fly out of Flint, the closest airport to us. But on our 12/00 flight we were stranded in Pittsburg overnight due to a blizzard that had all Michigan airports closed. USAir provided us with hotel rooms, meal vouchers and a phone card. They didn't have to do anything at all with the cancellations being due to weather. I think that's going beyond the call of duty in customer service.

I fly US Airways 75%-85% of the time, for both biz and recreation. They aren't any better, but certainly not any worse than the others - United, Delta, Continental, etc. I don't fly the value lines - Air Tran is off the list due to their past history, I haven't had a chance to fly SW, etc...

My wife flew US in January to Charleston with no problems.

We're all flying US to WDW in May, nonstop from Philly for around $630 total (4 tix)

We used USAir for our flight to WDW Sept. 30, 2001. Our flight was cancelled and they didn't let us know. I found out by checking their website and pretending to buy tickets for that flight. I called, and they did reschedule for an earlier time (6:20 A.M.). I could have had that flight from the beginning for less money. They wouldn't refund the difference. It was only asking for the supervisor that I got that flight at all. They kept trying to book me late in the day with stopovers instead of the direct flight I had. Their attitude was "take it or leave it." Just be sure to keep checking to make sure your flight doesn't get cancelled. (I booked online through their website and had paper tickets)

Things have probably settled down a lot since then, so hopefully you'll have no problems.

So then I shouldn't expect any breakfast on my 7:15 am flight from Laguardia to Orlando in a few weeks?

Considering that they weren't serving lunch on a 11:00am flight from Pittsburg to Las Vegas a couple weeks ago, I wouldn't plan on breakfast on your flight. Pick up bagels on the way to the airport. They are still serving beverages.

The thing I don't like about US Airways is that they always reschedule their flights. They rescheduled my flight (out of lga) last year several times.

Living in Pittsburgh, we have practically no other choice for non-stop flights. Flying on both business & personal for over 10 years, I've had no major problems, other than a couple delayed flights due to weather or maintenance. Come to think of it, I don't think I've flown on any other airline, other than tour charters. Tour charters - now there's a headache. They are usually old cramped planes that are almost always late.

Almost every carrier reschedules it's flights every three months. If you book early you can almost count on it being rescheduled. After September 11 the entire system was in an uproaar, and US didn't reshedule any more than any other carrier. I think Delta wins on taht one.

Been there, done that. 5+ hour delays. Old old planes! We always take US Airways, non-stop. It's worth the extra, plus we get FF miles. We can have our choice of different flight times, and the prices aren't that bad. The difference between a charter and US Airways for my next trip was only $40 (some were actually $20 MORE than US Airways), so for me it is worth it.

We live near Philly so we have few other options in terms of flying. My biggest beef with them in Philly is that baggage claim is a nightmare. They ALWAYS tell you it's at 1 carousel, then a buzzer goes off and an announcement comes on saying the bags are now coming out of the furthest possible carousel. However, if Philly is not your final destination, this does not apply to you.

Other than that, I would rather fly USAir than American any day. American is a huge nightmare and employees are just flat out rude. USAir has been very accomodating whenever I have had an issue.

The other thing about USAir is that before the economy hit the skids, they purchased a bunch of new planes. It seems that everytime I have flown with them lately the plane has been relatively new. They have a bunch of new airbuses in the the fleet which have replaced the old planes. That's a good thing.

We enjoyed our USAir flight last June, fast, efficient and on time. I was really upset when they cancelled their direct flights out of Allentown to Orlando, so now we have to leave out of Philly. But all in all, I was very satisfied with them and would choose them over American any day!
