Please share your best & worst dining experiences

Best:

Ohana
Boma
Teppen Edo
Cape May

Worst:
Chef Mickey's
Tony's
Boma

For us, It's hit or miss with Boma. We have ate there 4 times. 2 were great and 2 were not so great. Chef Mickey's, IMO is the worst buffet on Disney property.....maybe in all of the Orlando area!

as for service:
Akershus lunch - Worst ever.
Mama Melrose - wait for table is always terrible, and servers just seem too swamped to give you good service.
Ohana - the wait for your table is crazy long every single time! (we do breakfast there)
50's Prime Time - we always have the sloooowest service there each and every time!
We have the same experience every time at these restaurants.

best service:
hands down, CRT. They really move you through there, I like that! Shame though... won't go back since Major Domo's Favorite Pie no longer on lunch menu.
ALways get good service at WCC, too.

Food-wise:
Best:
Via Napoli
50's Prime Tiime
Cape May (dinner)
Crystal Palace (breakfast)
Garden Grill
Those are some of our favs - and MUST dos every trip!

Worst food:
Hollywood & Vine (dinner)

Liberty Tree (dinner) - I know some love it, none of us liked any of it.

Mama Melrose - have done many times... guess we keep going back as is like a tradition to do so. Finally skipping it this trip. Waits for table are terrible - and food - the sauce always has a burnt taste to it sort of.

Tutto Italia - overpriced and didn't care for. Lasagna was soggy noodles and nothing good to say about it.

I'm surprised no one has listed our favorite restaurant...Il Mulino in the Swan. The food is fabulous and they usually have a coupon at that online restaurant coupon site. It's a must do for us on each trip.

Most of the food on property is disappointing, but we have had good experiences at: Hoop Dee Doo (so much fun! food is OK), Kona Cafe (breakfast - Tonga Toast!), and CRT (service and princesses; breakfast food is good).

As much as I hate to say it, Chef Mickey's is one that we don't need to do again. The food is not for us.

Most of the counter service places are terrible too. However, Sunshine Seasons has some good selections.

June 2011

Best- Flying Fish, Jiko, Brown Derby, California Grill, Artist Pointe. All had excellent service, great food, and nice quiet atmosphere.

Worst- Yachtsman, horrible service and parts of the meal were just not good (will not go back). Via Napoli (?) service was insanely slowwwww and the food was not at all impressive. Cape May Cafe (breakfast) the food was barely warm, cool breakfast food is gross. Will not be trying this one again.

We also enjoyed Coral Reef, Boma, Yak and Yeti, Cape May Cafe (dinner) and La Haceinda.

Sadly Yachtsman and Via will be joining Chef Mickey's on the "we will never ever go back" list.

Best: California Grill - we had an amazing meal with great service. My wife and I ate while watching the sun set over the Magic Kingdom while my then 4 year old daughter slept the entire time. Just a little of that ol' Disney magic.

Worst:Toss-up. Chef Mickey's: dreadful food, loud and rushed. I had not seen, and thankfully have not seen since, bacon sliced so thin and so terribly overcooked that it literally shattered. I never thought you could get bacon to do that. Raglan Road: Awful service, even worse app and completely plain main course. I ordered the "calamari city" and got this mass of undercooked fried garbage that sat in my stomach for two days. I *LOVE* Irish pubs and being from NYC, I have pretty high standards for them. This one failed badly.

Worst--plaza restaurant in mk for lunch. Burgers not good, waitresses were rude... Haven't been back since

Best---boma-- good food, nice wait staff

Worst - Tusker House I made an ADR for breakfast as Donald is my husband's favorite character and everyone said the food was great. Well, it's probably great if you have kids but for two adults it was horrible! Our waiter basically ignored us. When we asked for more jungle juice he took about 20 minutes to return to us and slammed it down at the table. In addition, some of the characters skipped our table. We are very open to character greetings and we gave no indication otherwise.

I ended up leaving in tears..it was awful! No one should feel like they are a 2nd class citizen because they don't have kids! Needless to say we won't be back anytime soon...we'll stick to Crystal Palace where we always have a good character experience!

Best - Honestly just about every restaurant we've been to has been fabulous but the best was Jiko. We went there in May 2010 for our anniversary and were seated in the lively wine room. We had two servers taking care of our every need. The staff even signed a card for us and Mickey & Minnie called our table to wish us a Happy Anniversary. The food is always fabulous there and we loved feeling so cared for and welcome.

Best: Bluezoo- Love it here
Via Napoli- we eat here 2x per trip. :lovestruc
Flying Fish - yum, love the cheese plate

Worst: Le Chef's - it was really loud and cafeteria like imo
La Hacienda- really dislike the food, was looking forward to the churros and all we got were 3 small very cold hard pieces :sad2:

Ugh... sorry to hear that. We have ADR's for the first time there but it's for dinner. I'm more interested in how good the food is than the characters... I don't even know if there will be characters for dinner. I'm guessing that's just a breakfast thing?

Worst Experience: Tusker House - Rude Service, rushed characters, obscenely loud. 'nuff said.

Oh no! Going back through these posts I found another negative for Tusker House. However, yet again no mention of the food... only characters....

Of course there are many people I disagree with here and there are many questions I would ask... but I won't since everyone is entitled to their opinions. However, whenever you have ADR's to a restaurant it's best to ask around (here is better than any other place) what to order. I asked what some of peoples' favorite dishes were in these places people are saying had bad food, and it was quite delicious. Ask around before you go so you know exactly what to order.

The thing that bothers me about the negatives of Tusker House is that it's a buffet, so you can have whatever you want. However, since people are complaining about the characters and not the food, I'm not too worried.

Best... California Grill. We've been twice and both times it was almost perfect. We've been lucky enough to get reservations timed such that we've been seated, ordered drinks and had them delivered, ordered appetizers, watched the fireworks, reordered drinks and ordered dinner, had drinks and appetizers delivered, followed by dinner and dessert. Timing has been perfect, food and service even better. My only disappointment was on our first visit, when I ordered the filet. It was perfect.. but I saw so many other amazing dishes that I wished I'd been more venturesome!

Another best is Boma, and despite our wonderful meals at CaliGrill, I would say Boma is our favorite. We love the food, and as a party of 2 or 3 are always seated in the window alcoves, away from the hustle and bustle of servers and overactive children. Dinner has always been our favorite, but we had an extremely pleasant surprise at breakfast. There are some yummy, interesting dishes, the service is attentive (coffee, tea, and juice, better be attentive!), and the atmosphere peaceful and inviting.

...Biergarten, and boy, were we surprised that it's become a favorite. We've been occasionally over the years, but in the past 4 it seems to improve with every visit. We enjoy sitting with others (the beer flight helps this), so that's not a problem. We have found the food quality improves with each visit, and now it's almost a must-do for every trip!

Mid-ground ... Kona Cafe for dinner. Love the appetizers, entrees, service is good, but we find the desserts to be overly sweet, loaded with "bagged" whipped cream, or doused in chocolate sauce the quality of Hershey's canned syrup.

...Mama Melrose- we've always enjoyed the food, but the service can be hit or miss, which effects the experience. Same with 50's PT.

Worst... Kouzzina, and this breaks my heart. We went in Aug 2010 and it was incredibly good; we really loved it. Went again in Oct. 2011 and, well, never again. The service was incredibly slow, the server basically non-existant, and the food was miserable. It was cold, probably thanks to the inattentive server, but also poorly flavored and not properly prepared. This made me sad, as DD and I had loved it so much the year before and were looking forward to sharing this with DH.

Chef Mickey's... also a worst. We like buffets, we like fun and excitement, and aren't even bothered by the noise level here. The problem is the food, and the cleanliness. The food is just plain crappy; college dining hall food is better prepared. Even worse is the cleanliness. There's spilled food everywhere... on the buffet serving area, on the floor around the serving area, the dessert stations are overflowing with spilled food, and the place is just generally a mess.

Teppan Edo... too much hype, too high expectations. TE is exactly like every other teppan restaurant I've ever been to, except there's no salad or soup to go with the overpriced meal. We also ended up with table companions who were in their early 20's and clearly needed to "get a room" if you KWIM...

Worst: Le Chef's - it was really loud and cafeteria like imo
>>> ok, but the food???? No mention about that at all. If the food is incredible but the place is too loud, it would be fine with me. I wouldnt avoid the restaurant just because its too loud.

Ugh... sorry to hear that. We have ADR's for the first time there but it's for dinner. I'm more interested in how good the food is than the characters... >>>yup, me too! I don't even know if there will be characters for dinner. I'm guessing that's just a breakfast thing?

. >>>> I agree with you 100%. There are complaints about the characters but not the food. Im more interested in the food. Cause everyone is different in terms of what is an acceptable noise level and what is not. Whats loud for an elderly couple might be just fine for a mother of four. LOL!

For the record, i thought both the characters and food at Tusker to be incredible.

:thumbsup2

Thanks for the feedback :thumbsup2 that's good news! I also have 4 kids and we love loud places since no one will be bothered if we are too loud LOL

Isn't it amazing how one's list of "terrible" or "worst food I've ever tasted" is another's these are the "best" or "most wonderful" places we went to and will definitely go again :lmao: That's what keeps all the restaurants going and makes life interesting. We all have such varied tastes and ideas of how things should be handled. Life would be so boring if we all like the same things, eh? :goodvibes We love most of the places we've been, but maybe it's the "pixie dust" we're surrounded with that makes us enjoy them so much! Whatever :confused3

So true. However, you should take into account for people just trying the wrong thing. Maybe if they would have tried something else, they would have went from listing it as a worst place into a Best place. The buffets are the only exception to this. As Biergarten is listed at my best place, it hurts to see it listed as someone's worst.

Best Dining Experience:

1st day at Disney, we went to EPCOT. We had lunch at Tutto Italia, which was incredibly flavorful. For dinner, we went to Le Cellier, where we had (you guessed it) steaks. Perfectly cooked and incredible. Also, do not miss out on the pretzel bread and cheddar soup.

Worst Dining Experience:

Any time I have had a sit down meal at MGM (Disney Hollywood).

Best:
O'Hana breakfast--besides the fact that I LOVE Stitch, we have always had wonderful food, I swear I crave their juice, and perfect service. We do this every trip and will never stray. Even our potentially trip ruining event was handled with such care and attention....
Trip 2010 I had my camera sitting on the table. The server dropped a juice, knocking over a coffee all over it. I immediately removed my memory card hoping to at least save pics (halfway through our vacay) and while the camera still worked for the time being, I was very worried. The manager showed at our table within minutes and the server was apologizing and practically in tears. I understand accidents happen but umm...what do we do here? The manager gave me a card with a number since for the time the camera was still working, but we didn't know how it would go once dried and possibly sticky insides. We left after our comped meal and of course get to MK and camera starts malfunctioning. Call the number and get an immediate answer from manager. Told him it was messing up and I get told "meet me at the Kodak store on Main street in 1 hour". I do and manager is there getting me a brand new camera that was actually an upgrade from mine. So while the experience that time around was ehhh...it was fixed so wonderfully I will still remain faithful to this place. Can't wait to be there in a month!

#2 Rose and Crown--I know some people have commented poorly on food, but we have never had a bad meal here, and have always had wait staff go out of their way to make it an awesome time and to cater to my princesses as if it was what they lived to do. Treat my kids well and I will be happy.

Worst:
Cap'n Jack's in DTD--honestly I think that's what its called but I have blocked it from my mind. We went once and I can't even bring myself to give it another chance. They were dead, I had ADR, and we still waited 45min???? I have NEVER waited that long at any other Disney restaurant! The food was horrible! Gross, undercooked in parts, overcooked in others, just disgusting! Service was horrible, I swear it was like they had us on a prank show for how this guy acted. Never again.

Special Mention: While not a sit-down, Flame Tree BBQ in AK is a big favorite of mine for a quick meal...have never had bad food and do it every trip!

We've had good and bad trips at quite a few places....inconsistent enough that we try again for most. Coral Reef, 1900 Park Fare dinner, Chef Mickey's, Whispering Canyon...

We are trying a BUNCH of new places this upcoming trip and can't wait to review them!

Best: Boma (for breakfast) we make sure to go every trip

New Best: Yachtsman Steakhouse (for dinner) it was our first time dining there on our last trip and the steak was out of this world. The restaurant was quiet...almost like our own little undiscovered hole in the wall ;) Hubby is a very picky eater (meat & potato man) and this has become his new favorite (used to be Cinderella's till they changed the menu).

Best All time favorite: Rainforest Cafe (for dinner) at AK. The Mogambo Shrimp is YUM!

Worst:Bluezoo-to expensive and the food was ok....

Thanks for this post!

I'm a little nervous as some of my ADR are for some of the 'worst' places. I did research and thought I did great and we would have good food but the 1st place we will eat has gotten ALL bad reviews on this post...

Chef Mickey's
The Garden Grill
T-Rex
LeCellier
Tusker House (BF)
'Ohana

I'll come back in May and update what we thought.

Chef Mickey's --- food was disappointing. But I'd give it a shot at least once if i were you. Characters were a lot of fun.
The Garden Grill
T-Rex ----- I thought it was good. Atmosphere is fun.
LeCellier ---- soooo over rated in my opinion. I wasnt impressed. But many others have enjoyed their steak here.
Tusker House (BF) ----- im surprised with this one. They have great food! one of the best breakfast buffets. im not talking about characters, noise level, or atmosphere. im talkin about food. They have a massive variety to please everyone.
'Ohana ----- breakfast here is great. Havent been for dinner thou!

I'll come back in May and update what we thought.

Honestly, if your curious about a restaurant, then just go and give it a try. What might be a bad meal for some, might be great for another. You never know!

Dont forget a lot of these reviews were negative because of the service. I've ready soooo many times about how ticked off someone was because the ppl at the table next to them were so loud, their kids were out of control and throwing things blah blah blah. The place was so noisy, server didnt bring our drink on time yada yada yada...yet there was no mention about the food!! Sorry, just cause you had a bad experience with service, its not enough to turn me away from the place. Im interested in hearing about the FOOD. Thats all. I have friends who are easily annoyed, so while they felt they had terrible service, i thought it was great! know what i mean?

I say go with the list you have and dont worry too much about reviews. :thumbsup2
