Please say it's not so

NOOOOOOOO........they cant closed DD.
My DS(7) was too small to ride on our trip in 05(still too small in 07)and he got a certificate saying he could go to the front of the line when he has eventually big enough and he is convinced he will be on our 09 trip.
That certificate has sat on his desk top for 2 1/2 years waiting to be used and he will be gutted if they close the ride !!!

That is too cute!

Dueling Dragons and the Flying Unicorn will probably close for about 2 months or so as they transform the area, how much will be changed to the rides as far as theming, queue lines and the names themselves I have no clue, there's no way the actual rides will be changed or removed.

Sorry, where has Universal said that LC is going? Nothing has been officially confirmed by Universal. I personally believe nothing until walls go up.

Directly from the FAQ:

Q: Where exactly will it be located?

A: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be located at Universal's Islands of Adventure theme park in Orlando, Florida. A portion of what is currently the Lost Continent will be devoted to the new environment, as well as an undeveloped area that is currently not in use.

(Bolding by me) Here's the deal. Nothing has been said yet of WHERE in LC, right? Things change. Believe nothing until walls go up. Does anyone remember the rumours of Van Helsing? It didn't happen.

What reason do we have to believe the plans have changed that much? And where would they fit an entire island, if not using parts of LC? As far as I can tell, a wait and see approach isn't necessary here.

They've started building the previously mentioned bridge, btw. It's just beyond Mythos (coming from Seuss.) So the rest of LC will in fact be closed.

1)Only those who are building (contractors) or those in Creative know the plans. Since they don't want to get fired/in trouble, anything anyone who is not part of those two groups = speculation.

2)Please ride Flying Unicorn and look around. There is a lot of space available.

3) Yes, they may use "parts". Parts that will not affect the normal flow of guests & employees.

4) Post pics of said bridge. Also post legit documents that say LC will be closed.

In before lock.

LOL@the "Retheming" rumors. Lost Continent is going nowhere. Some parts of the DD super-extended queue (the parts that have never been used ever) may be absorbed by HP, but HP will be its own, separate entity.
Bolding mine. Thanks for posting that, DM. I've often wondered if the line for DD EVER made it out of the castle building. The inner queue area is SO long (but remarkably well done), I can't imagine that the outer queue area--also ridiculously long--has ever been used.

Why would that mean that anything other than the area of the current bridge will be closed? That doesn't have to include rides.

For one thing I think it is well known by now that harry potter is not slated to open until late 2009 or early 2010 so I would think it might be a goofy move for them to shut down anything in LC right now cause it is way too early

1.) I wouldn't call Universal's very own website "speculation."

2.) I don't need to ride FU. I know what's there. That construction site will be able to fit the Hogwarts attraction and not much else.

3.) They would not be building a bridge if it wasn't affecting guest flow.

4.) Since you know so much, you can find this stuff yourself.

Chill out no reason to get upset cause we want to keep it friendly and all we are trying to do is be helpful and answer questions that maybe others may not know :thumbsup2

Some current "Lost Continent" attractions such as The Dueling Dragons roller coasters and The Flying Unicorn coaster ride likely would be adapted to fit the Harry Potter story. Trowbridge would not discuss specific attractions, but did say that Universal intended to "leverage some existing infrastructure." He said that would have to include far more than a new paint job and a new sign, because too much is at stake.

Hmmmm, interesting

Affecting guest flow is different than closing DD.

this is madness people: Some times he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy, the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament.

:rotfl2: He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark.

Don't worry, with summer just around the corner, everything should be fine until after Labor Day.

Yes, but it'll have to close at some point. It's being rethemed.

yes, but like everyone has said, surely they won't close it down during summer, those are 2 coasters that me and my kids look forward to. But if it does close down, it will be for the good purpose of creating the Harry Potter area:thumbsup2
