The tag was a very pleasant surprise and I really wasn't aware of the controversy over thanking them/bringing attention to tags. I'd seen other people post "Thank you for the tag threads" and I actually thought that it would be perceived as rude if I didn't send thanks. I'm sorry if I hurt anyone's feeling with that post or put more pressure/aggravation on the tag fairies.

Me too :( I wanted to thank the tag fairies, because I was totally surprised when I saw my tags and wanted them to know how much I appreciated them. Now I see I probably should have posted the thanks on the tagliarchy thread.

I'm sorry the Tag Fairies got upset. It was starting to get crazy with so many threads of people begging for tags. I don't have one yet, but I'll wait to be surprised one day. We love you Tag Fairies! Don't leave us! :D

Sounds fun! It's fun to see how excited the unexpected get!

the tag fairy does. I know it had NO clue in my early DISing days. Who is the tag fairy is a very common questions as well as what are tags. I have asked those questions myself. Is there a way to stick the tag fairy 101, 102 or this thread to the top of the page so people will UNDERSTAND the process of the tags and the tag fairy? I think that may be a way to explain and clear up the begging issues.

I am very grateful for all the joy the tag fairies bring and would hate to see them leave. It is very frustrating to see al the begging going on. I too was guilty of that for my first tag....but again, I did not know any better. I just think communicating to everybody via a thread that expalins the basics of tag ettiquette would be a way to help alleiviate this problem of all the threads gone awry. JMHO.

On that note, I will say my thanks to all who make the DIS the great place that it is. There is a lot of hard work that goes into this place by. each and every participant contributes something, and for that I am thankful.

I want to take this opportunity to invite you all over to the TAGLIARCHY.

I do have a question for Alex and (not so)MeanLaureen:
Should those of us in the TAGLIARCHY change our signatures to remove the clapping?
(Alex, I have another question too, but I think that needs to be in a PM, so I'll send one a little later)

:bounce:

The whole tag fairy controversy is very similar to what happens at WDW when a resort tries to do something special for someone as a surprise. The Tag Fairies try to add a small special little twist to people's DIS experience by surprising them with a small colored tag. The fun was that it was never expected and, therefore, was a happy surprise.

This is not unlike when a resort manager decides to send a bottle of champagne to someone's room who is celebrating an anniversary or other special occassion. That person comes back here and posts about it and the next person gets angry because they feel they were cheated out of their bottle when they went to WDW for their anniversary. Because of this, the only option is to stop doing nice surprise things and never treat anyone special.

Now, people here have come to view the Tag Fairy Droppings ;) as a status symbol and get angry when they feel they should have been tagged and have been cheated out of their tag. C'Mon people! That's why they called Fairies. Some people live their entire lives without ever seeing a fairy dropping.

Fairy Droppings?? I think we should all tread carefully:o

Alex, could you place the TF rules 101 and 102 up at the top of the first page permanently where any new people or people who have been away for a while will always have a chance to read this. I, for one, rarely visit past page one due to time. Then, there won't be any hurt feelings if one posts a thank you and it gets closed because one did not read TF rules 102.

Thank goodness! Otherwise, I'd have to carry a teeny-tiny pooper scooper around with me .

Thanks for all you do TF...it's too bad it came to this, but I think it's about time something was done to curb all the "begging" and "clapping" going on.

Many thanks for all the TF has done in the past...it's always appriciated!

I imagine the "tag fairy" can't enjoy as much time as he or she or they would like on the boards because they feel they HAVE to tag people now. Just don't tag people anymore and it will all fade away and people can go back to putting their own tags under their names like they did for years before it became a game to be tagged . Remember that? Remember when it was all a game and the things to do to get a tag -- asking, begging, clapping/ cyber bribes of food and flattery -- were THE ways to get a tag, they were all part of the game. Remember the Lime Green Duct Tape people and all that stuff, long before the Tagliarchy thread came along, when the tagging first started and went on for a long time? Who knew the rules would change and now those are NOT the things to do anymore?!

HauntedMansionGeek made a great point last night when she pointed out that newbies don't know, so they ask. That will continue forever, tag fairy of no tag fairy, because before there was a tag fairy new people often asked (myself included), "How do you put those words under your name?" "Can someone put words under my name for me, I don't know how?" "How do you put words and pictures in your posts?" Etc, etc, etc.

Except for the guidelines when you first join the DIS, and Charlie and Zurg's crazy stuck thread on the CB (I know it's not supposed to be their thread, but it is :teeth), who reads the stuck threads up top anyway? People are still going to ask no matter if you stick a "Don't Ask - Don't Thank" thread at the top of the CB or not. But like someone said, maybe then if a thread gets locked they can get pointed to the thread up top, THEN they'll read it. :p

People were talking about pubic hair, blowing their nose into a tissue and wiping other body part with it and smelly farts, and no one bats an eyelash, but unknowingly asking or thanking for a tag gets attention  It's a stranger CB these days, that's for sure!

Tag Fairy droppings. LOL! :p

Tag Fairy, please don't go away as you bring so much joy......:) and in this day and age, we need all the wonderful surprises we can get!

Have a great weekend, oh wonderful Tag Fairy!:teeth:

Grateful mom from NC

As long as the "tags" are intended to bring joy and NOT say cruel nasty things about a person then I can really see no further problems. :D One thing I would like to clarify, IF someone gets a 'questionable' tag, can the receiver contact a moderator and request the tag to be removed?? I don't want this to be a way just for people to be able to change a tag whenever they wish, just if it seems the tag is a bit nasty or mean. (and before I get jumped here, I'm sure even the tag fairies have bad days and say things that they really don't mean!! :bounce: )

If any user has tags they don't like, they can just put in their OWN tag and the "colorized" ones will go away. It's right on your user profile screen.

Go to the "USER CP" screen, choose "Edit Profile" and just type what you want in the "Custom User Text" box.

Hi Maggie,

The point of the board was to share something with friends not play tag unfortunatly the oddball joy and amazmant at life's little foibles has gone. Yes it is a stranger CB. One need only look at snoopy's thread to know many of the crazy characters have moved on.

Here's hoping the hot tub is full, the big screen is fired up, there is plenty of Nyquil and canned corn where every they are.

love you guys

I, for one, hope the Tag Faries don't go away entirely. I know I was sure touched when they changed my tag to include hugs last month.

Sure, most of the time the tags are nothing but fun and intended to get a laugh. But for someone like me, sometimes the tags bring comfort and mean so much more.

I totally agree that the begging for tags has gotten a bit out of control.

I also, personally, would think that a "thank you" thread should still be okay -- that way, the tagee can express their thanks to the tag fairy, an the Tag Fairy knows that the person noticed and appreciates their tag. :)

. Here is my concern, apparently someone was tagged with a rather nasty tag, they did not want. That is an abuse of power. If that person was in my employ they would be fired. Whether it was done in fun or not, intentional infliction of emotional distress is deplorable. While I have no idea if this was done by a mod, the "tag fairy" or whoever, it should be dealt with.

So giving someone free reign to access my profile, which I am asked to fill out worries me. Whose to say this same person may take a dislike to me and screw with my info. They have demonstrated their ability to do so even when requested not to do so.

I have always envisioned a tag fairy to be rather Puck-like. :teeth: Sometimes, you have to take a little mischief with a sense of playfulness yourself. ::yes::

Really, even these "please leave the tag fairy alone" threads are getting out of hand. (then again, hereI am, chiming in. )

Keep the Faith!
