I've just deleted four threads that were explicitly AGAINST DIS Posting Guidelines regarding non-public PIN Codes.

Several people were sharing non-public PIN codes on those threads. Sorry.. NOT permitted by the DIS Posting Guidelines.

I couldn't go thru 200+ posts and just delete the offenders so the whole threads are gone. If while reading the DIS you see posts discussing non public PINCODES, please report the post so we can remove it promptly. Thanks.

ONLY PUBLIC CODES MAY BE OPENLY SHARED/DISCUSSED ON THE DIS.

THEY ARE LISTED ON THIS PAGE :

DIS POSTING GUIDELINES

Bumping this up. Starting today, those who ignore this rule will start getting infractions.

FROM THE POSTING GUIDELINES:

11. As mentioned above, the DIS is all about planning a Disney vacation. On occasion, Disney does release discounts which usually can be obtained via a code. This information will be available in our Discounts section. However, Disney also sends mailings to specific individuals/target groups which contain a discount that can only be obtained with a PIN (personal identification number.) If you receive one of these offers, please do not share your PIN/Code on the DIS for others to use. We respect the fact that these offers are not for the general public and will remove any posts that include this information. Understand that this action is for your protection. For example, say you use Mrs. Smith's code. When you check in and are asked to produce proof that you are Mrs. Smith and cannot do so, you will be charged the full rate.

---

Ok folks.. I'm sorry that you can't share these codes but this has been the rule here for some time. If you read this post would be so kind as to bump it up so EVERYONE on this board gets this message. I just had to delete several more threads this morning because to delete all the posts with NON-PUBLIC codes would have ruined the threads anyway and made swiss cheese of both the thread AND my day. (lol)

Non public codes = NOT ON THE DIS

Thanks,

Glad those posts are gone. Some cm's have told me that other cms have already gotten in trouble through their supervisor for allowing people that weren't eligible to reserve their stay with the discount.

I am just surprised the moderators allowed those posts to go on as long as they did considering some of them had the info posted on the first post.

Both of us on this board were busy with 'real life' the past few weeks and nobody reported the posts ... Just one of those things.

It was unfortunate for sure.

I'm a little confused as to how codes like that get out??:confused3

I tried calling to get the discount, but was told I needed a pin. I guess I'm a little confused as to what a code is, what a pin is and what a general public code is????

Wow Disney makes vacationing confusing???

Totally agree and why I started using a travel agent when I first began traveling to Disney World. I don't really need one now but my TA is great, travels to WDW every year herself and is on top of all discounts, dining reservations, etc so why not give her the business, helps me by not having to worry about missing a discount on the day it is released

Start out by reading the EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT DISCOUNT CODES AND PINS FOR DISNEY RESORTS linked in my signature below.

As for confusing.. Well in fairness.. they don't set out to make it confusing. But with thousands of rabid fans who are always on the lookout for a deal (and who can blame them) ... it turns into a confusing matter.

The public codes are always posted here on the DIS at this page for room only discounts:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/discounts/discounts-resorts.htm#room

And this page for package discounts:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/disneypackages.htm#general

What happens is.. I get a pin in the mail and I book with the however many digit pin.. and the internal non-public 3 digit booking code shows up on my receipt. I share that with two friends.. and the next thing you know it's like that shampoo commercial.

I can't imagine that it won't be long before they stop with that printing them on the receipt thing.

And if its not that.. a less than scrupulous travel agent starts booking with them etc.. and word gets out that way.

Earlier today I happened to speak with someone who works in the reservations center who told me they got read the riot act in the past few days for booking these, again this year, without the associated PINS and once again they will now be alert for "this kinda shenanigans." (their words)

Ultimately, if these codes were meant for general public booking, they'd be released as general public codes.

And whatever your feelings about them -- matters not to me -- the rule here is you can't share them on the open boards.

Thanks!

Knox

i thought i was out of school, reading this makes me feel like im in class again..."dont do this ...dont say that." Let me go look outside in my garbage can for my First Amendment.........Nope; not in there. its got to be around here somewhere, i dont think somebody woud take it from me? there are some certainties in life. 1. we all love disney:thumbsup2 2.no matter how rich or how poor, we all try to save money. its no different than going to the same car dealer as your neighbor and asking for the same deal. its no secret that wdw is cutting back on discounts, so we take a different approach to gaining some savings back. I will tell you, those CM's that passed those codes (even after the scolding) went to bed that night with a smile on there face. sorry for venting...

They said 14 months ago they were cuttin back on discounts.

I have yet to see it.

I will tell you, those CM's that passed those codes (even after the scolding) went to bed that night with a smile on there face.

Are you a CM who got a scolded for this? If not, then how can you possibly know that they 'went to bed that night with a smile on their face'? :confused3

I'm a CM who never applies a code without validating it. Those who get scolded are lucky. Revenue manipulation is a terminable offense. It's not worth my job.

Maybe you could enlighten everyone then on why it's so easy for some to allow the code? Do they not know they are doing something wrong? Why do some act like it's no problem to do it if it actually is? Just curious about the total opposite attitudes between CM's.

Mostly it's newer cast members who don't realize that they're doing anything wrong until they get coached or reprimanded. If you're eligible for a discount, we're supposed to proactively offer it now. Whether it's a pin or gp. If you have a pin, we'll tell you. If you don't but are traveling during a time covered by a gp discount, we'll tell you that too. This has changed just within the last year. Previously, we were not allowed to proactively offer discounts.

Just wondering, how do we know those codes were given out wrongly. Isn't it possible that the people who were able to get a code applied had a PIN by their name, even thought they'd been told previosly that they didn't AND even though they didn't get notice via e-mail or snail mail? I've read plenty of posts where people reported not getting anything e-mailed, but when they called and asked if they had a PIN the answer was, "Yes". Again, just wondering...:confused3

To Spritna - see following quote on why the pin offer codes are not allow on the boards

What was wrong is that the people posted the three letter code for the pin. They could have just posted that they received a pin and was able to use it without giving specific information on the code. New cm's or cm's that took overflow calls (not as familiar with the ins and outs of the codes) applied them when they shouldn't have and would have known if they read the rules under the code when pulled up in their system.

I am sure some had the pin offer attached to their name and didn't realize it but just as many probably didn't but kept trying until they got someone that didn't follow the rules on Disney's end

To me trying to get around the rules of getting the pin offer and maybe jepordazing someone's job, whether they knew the rules or not, is not the way I want to receive a discount and travel. Just my 2cents
