*** PLEASE READ - re: Non Public Pincode Sharing ***

Well I am no seasoned veteran but I know enough that when there are disney discounts there are only a certain amount of rooms alotted for that discount, and while I saw everyone sharing and using the discount that was floating around, I felt that if I called and and a CM allowed me to use it, I was taking a room away from someone who really received this discount code/pin. And yes, the discount I currently have is only 5%(staying at POFQ in April), but I go knowing that I didn't take someone elses magic.

But you could have had a pin that you didn't know about, which was the case for many who called. I don't think they took anything away from anyone.

I don't understand how Disney can't seem to catch that kind of stuff?:confused3I mean, if these 3 digit codes were not for the public, how come so many people reported being able to use the code anyway? I would think Disney's computer system would have some way of stopping the CM if a pin isn't attached to that 3 digit code. :confused3

I have to agree on this and have to say that I was very surprised to see so many folks claim that they were able to successfully use another person's code. Especially when a lot of these codes are "supposedly" linked to a person's name or email :confused3. Back in 2010, we received an email that consisted of a 3 digit code and I had waited to the last possible minute to book our package (like almost 2 months later). Just before the code was expiring, I called to make my reservation. The CM I spoke with questioned the code I gave them (mind you, I was reading off my email). A supervisor then came on the phone and asked that I fax them the email I received as they wanted confirmation that it indeed had been sent to me. I was a little annoyed at first but I did send it to them. They called me back shortly thereafter and I was able to book my trip. So again, not sure how so many folks were able to get away with using another's pin code and how Disney's computer system didn't catch it :confused3

Well all you have to do to find out if you have a pin attached to your name is call them--no code needed.

Absolutely, but I think the confusion for a lot of folks comes into play for those who called and mentioned the actual 3 digit code they found here on the boards.

And I would also guess that they send out far more pin codes to people than actually get used... so there might even be a bit of 'leftover magic'

I do frequently get pin codes in the mail for a Disney Cruise, but I'm not interested in taking a cruise, so I recycle them... and I'm sure that a lot of people did the same with the recent pins that were mailed/emailed. People might not be wanting to take a trip now, they might not want to go during the pin's specified time of year etc...

The whole pin code distribution is puzzling, if you ask me. We've been fortunate to get a pin code every year for the last 5 years and yet I know so many folks who go just as often as we do (perhaps even more) and they've never received one....

But you could have had a pin that you didn't know about, which was the case for many who called. I don't think they took anything away from anyone.

I know that is the case with some, but there were many people stating that they were calling 3,4, and 5 times before they finally 'got' a CM that would apply the code. I know everytime I have called to modify my existing reservation the CM always checks the discounts and pins available for my time of travel w/o me asking. So if you have to call 5 times to apply a code, pretty sure you don't have a pin attached to your name or the first 4 CM's could have caught that.

It becomes confusing for the CM's on the phones because of the way it works.

When you get a PIN in your email it's something like (this is made up):

"23456 13123 98765"

That 15 digit pin ... unlocks the 3 character booking code for the reservations system.

Those are typically in a format like : A12 or Z99

The three character code floating around the DIS was what the 15 digit pin "unlocks"

This is all compounded by the various offers and codes that are public or semi-public. (The old "Disney Visa members offers" are examples of semi-public codes) They all follow that three character formula.

So.. a new CM on the phones might assume they aren't familiar with the code you're requesting and book it anyway. They're not supposed to do that.. but the age of the systems allow for this. They don't yet have a way to verify the 3 digit code directly associated to an offer that was made to YOU directly.

It's basically laziness / frugality on Disney's part. Their systems could be updated to fix all this, but they rely on yelling at the CM's when they screw up.... bad system obviously.

LOL

There were some people who just called and were offered FD. I remember a specific story that the lady asked about discounts for her timeframe and the CM OFFERED FD. I just think that it isn't so cut and dry as some people make it out to be. There are so many different ways that people were able to get it.

Agreed and thank you for posting this, I had forgot about her posting that. :)

I remember her too, and as I remember she was offered FD on her first call not her 5th. I think it is wonderful if you call and a CM finds you a discounts, or you call with a code and there happens to be a pin they find for you. That is truly disney magic. I don't think calling 5 times in a row when you have been told 4 times you can't use that code is disney magic it is pulling one over on someone.

As you said, there was no code ever mentioned. So logically, this can go on with or without the code. Because before the specific code was made known, people were calling several times a day just asking if they had a code or discount attached to their name. And some were having luck without even using the code, with repetitive calling, getting discounts applied. Eventually some people got a CM that would search for codes on their own or even offer FD!

Not so cut and dry.

Bottom line is if they don't want things like this to happen, their systems need to be updated to prevent it from happening. No one realized that jobs were in jeopardy.

I thought the three-digit codes were public offers...?

I know the 15-digit codes are linked to a name, but the 3-digit codes? I've received both in email and snail mail...

Some 3 character codes are public and some are not.

Its as I posted above.. and it doesn't need to be this convoluted.

:thumbsup2 Well said!

Glad those posts are gone. Some cm's have told me that other cms have already gotten in trouble through their supervisor for allowing people that weren't eligible to reserve their stay with the discount.

I am guessing if this is true there are some supervisors who might be getting in trouble to. I just can't imagine that at least some supervisors didn't know anything about them doing this.

Thanks for posting this! I know the DISboard guidelines yet I still fell for the code someone posted. Well, not that they were intentionally doing something against the rules but I thought since they posted a 3 digit code, it was a public code. Like when travel agents will post on here a few days early about a code coming up. I had NO idea this was a pin code until Disney told me so. And I have to agree with other posters - when the public codes and 'pin' code discounts look the same (the 3 digit code that is), it is confusing. I'll keep my eye on Disney's special offers page to be safe. I don't even trust the WDWinfo site after this.

The info posted on WDWINFO.COM comes straight from DISNEY for public offers. Occasionally its up on that site a day or two sooner than the Disney site.

The drumbeat for an upcoming offer is strong.. but I've seen this movie before.

They will announce an offer in early March that is usually NOT free dining.. people will get all mad again.. and by early April they announce whatever FD offer they're gonna come out with.

So brace yourself, it's about to get bumpier before it gets smoother. LOL
