Please pray for my son's surgery tomorrow

A Big {HUG} to you and your son.
Let him know that he is not alone this summer. My DS who is also 17 will have his WT out (they are impacted) on July 23.
But before that he has to have his toe operated on he goes for that next Friday. Both are Day Surgeries. So let your son know that his will be over before he knows it, then he can enjoy the rest of the summer!
Let us know how he makes out, those other 17 yo will be anxiously waiting to hear.
I'll say a prayer for your son that everything goes smoothly!

I had my wisdom teeth extracted when I was 17, also. They were impacted and a MESS! I remember being scared to death also but my Dad just literally CARRIED me through it with his kind concern and hand holding. At 17 we are STILL children! And I was a sophomore in college!!

It is now one of the nicest memories I had of my Daddy.... I still miss him.

Prayers and pixie dust for your son and best wishes for a speedy recover. I know when I was a teen and had it done, I was not a happy camper, so get ready for some grizzly bear moments until he feels all better. With a sn like merry poppins I am sure everything will turn out perfect.

Thanks so much for all the positive thoughts! I think he feels marginally better about the whole thing today. He smiled when he saw how many of you are thinking about him.

Please keep the prayers coming. We leave for the oral surgeon's office in an 1 1/2 hours. I'm hoping fear won't take ahold again before I get him in there. It will be much easier on all of us if he can just try to relax.

I had all four of my wisdom teeth out when I was in college and it wasn't a huge deal. I was sore and swollen, but I know what to expect.

It's the unknown and loss of control that is worrying him. I'm sure once it's over he'll think it wasn't that bad. I've told him to pray for the team that will be working on him. That seemed to calm him down and make him feel better.

I'm not sure if they are just removing the uppers or taking out all four teeth. They are giving him sedation in the oral surgeon's office. They said he will be "out". That is what they did when I had mine removed as well.

I plan to pick up his medication on the way home. I'll ask if they can phone it in for me. If he is feeling sick or something, I'll just make sure they have the script and have his dad pick it up on the way home. He'll be joining us soon after we get back to the house.

We're home and he's sleeping on the couch. The pain pills should kick in before he wakes up. He assured me that the procedure wasn't bad. Now we just need to manage the pain. Thanks again for the positive thoughts.

Sorry I didn't get to this thread until now Melissa. Sure glad to hear everything went fine with your son. That's not a very fun surgery at all!!

He's doing great. It's been almost two weeks since the surgery. He's still using the little squirty thing to rinse the lower ones after meals, but he hasn't taken Advil for several days now (and even then it was usually once or twice a day).

He says he'll be glad when he can chew back there again. He does look rather like a monkey when he eats. But to anyone who is getting ready to go through this, the first few days are the worst. Once you get through those it is downhill all the way. He's now thrilled that it's all behind him.

By the way, our oral surgeon said no swimming pools for one week. He says no matter how clean you try to keep a pool, it has germs that you don't want in an open wound. And mixing those germs with a wound that goes clear to the jawbone would be a disaster. Just thought that was interesting info. I hadn't thought of it myself.

Not to worry! I was only 14 when they took out those little suckers. The first day was not fun... But it got better as time went on. Its very minor surgery. I was out of school for 5 days. Don't force him to go back until he is really ready... but I'm sure he will do just fine!

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed when I was 18. It was a breeze for me. I went shopping the next day. I looked terrible but I felt fine. Three teeth had to be cut out and one had to be pulled and the oral surgeon had a hard time with that one and my face was really swollen and bruised. Your son should be fine.
