For the love of all that is holy, please do not ever go to the stupid B-tag.

I've spent the better part of an hour trying to get my bib fixed for the NYC Half tomorrow. They're using these stupid B-tags (the timing is embedded in/on the bib rather than having the D-tag through your laces). We've been told they have to be "on your torso and must be pinned in all four corners" and also that they cannot be covered by ANYTHING (clothing, SpiBelts, etc.). And they cannot be bent at all. Well...when you have ****s, that means pretty much that it's going to be over your waist and hips, making wearing a belt impossible. They say that it HAS to be pinned and cannot be hung from a belt or it won't work.

Anyone have any evidence to the contrary - or experience with these stupid things and advice/suggestions?

I just hope Disney doesn't go to them...truly a nightmare. UGH!

I don't like them either. I always wear my bib on my shorts and like to fold the bib so just the number shows. You can't fold those, at least not much.

I can say that I still wore it on my shorts and not torso (which would have been hard since I didn't wear any shirt for the races that used them) and I only used 2 pins.

Great,

Boston is using B-tags, and I ALWAYS run with a belt. Will have to figure something out.

Maura

I've done 5 chip timed events. 2 on the show and 3 on bib. The B-tag one is the only one that didn't record correctly.

I've figured out a workable solution for tomorrow. Not my favorite, but it'll work.

A friend on another running forum said she's run with them and had hers pinned to her belt and it was fine. So the next time NYRR decides to give us with these things, I'll give it a shot. But not in a HM.

You do not need 4 pins, two will work. Your spibelt will work, as long as you do not go through the tag... I run with them using a number belt and had no issue.

And no I do not like them either

Thanks Coach! Good to know!

I don't like these either. They had them at the Cleveland marathon and it was a cool morning that was going to warm up, so many people were wearing a throw layer. It looked like we were all flashing the starting line to make sure it registered.

ugh....sounds like a PITA. I am fine with the D-tags or even plain ol' chips, though I know recovering all the chips is hard to impossible with big races.

I like to crinkle up my bibs so they're not all flappy and crisp. Couldn't do that with a B-tag, I'm sure.

Good luck in your Half, though!!

I'll be the voice of dissent...I love the B tags! Used them in my last race and tomorrow's race. I didn't have to do anything different from what I usually do when pinning my bib on my shirt. D tags are definitely better than the old chips, but I like having everything all in one place. You have to wear your bib to be in a race so why have to mess with something on your shoe too?

Of course, this is coming from someone who once forgot to put their chip on their shoe...:rolleyes1

You don't need to worry about wearing them under clothing. I had my first experience with B-tags in January in Houston, and even in the rain, I had no problems getting my time recorded while wearing a jacket.

I like B-tags. I've done two races with them without any issues. But, I always pin my bib to my shirt and haven't used a belt. I like not having to deal with putting the tag on my shoe.

I ran a half last weekend with the B tags and it worked fine, also recorded my splits. Same with DH and he did the full. I ran with a belt, too.

I've used B tags pinned to shorts, didnt have any major issues with it. The way the ones at MCM were was there was just 2 little RFID strips basically glued to the back of the bib.

No real preference either way B-tag, D-tag or the old champion chip.

I have a HM this weekend using the b-tag...I usually use a belt. I was going to try and pin it on my thigh. But based on the posts here - it sounds like I can use my belt, but I just use two pins to pin it on instead of putting it through the loops? I just don't want to screw anything up

I just used the holes provided on the bib and the attachment loops on the belt.....

Ditto me, no issues. Our local running club is using them full time now.
Three races with them for me I think. My bib gets wrinkled and I wear it on my belt - no pins. I think they just tell us that because that is probably the preferred method. If it somehow messes up and you didn't wear it the "right" way they can say it's your fault :)

Think D tag is my favorite. It comes on the bib so there is no losing it and I don't have to stop and give it back at the finish. But these B tags are fine.
enjoy,
Duane

So, could you just leave the Dtag on the bib?? Does it absolutely have to be on your shoe?

They say it does but for one local 5K I forgot to put it on and left it on the tag. I was timed and it was no problem. I wouldn't do it on purpose though. I wait until I'm done stretching and put the D-tag in my shoe and forget about it two minutes later.
