I have a trip coming up and have never used Magic Bands. Two questions:

1. How do they fasten to the wrist and do they easily come off?

2. If my Magic Band falls off and I lose it, is it possible for someone else to pick it up and use it, and thus apply charges to my room? For example, could they wander into a store and buy a stuffed Mickey with it and leave me with the bill?

1. They attach with pegs in holes. they are generally quite secure. I've never lost one. A friend caught his in his backpack once and pulled it off. He used a piece of duct tape to secure it after that. Children playing with it may also be a problem.

2. Not unless they know your PIN.

1. They attach by pushing the pegs on the wrist band to homes in the wrist band. They are pretty secure. I have been using them since day one and have never had one pop off. Just don't pu it on too tight and you'll be fine.

2. Even if you lose your magic band nobody can charge to it with out your pin. So just make sure you don't make your pin 1234 or write it on the band. All they might be able to do is user your fast passes but I've never seen anyone steal bands just for extra fastpasses.

Thanks! Good to know that they are fairly secure and that they require a PIN code. So this leads me to another question...

When/where do I set the PIN code? After I get to the resort and have the actual magic band?

You can set the pin through your my disney experience account when you do online check in. If you designate a cc for room charges it will prompt you to set up a pin. You can also do it at the resort check in.

If you are on a meal plan there is no associated pin with this though, correct? So someone could drain a meal off your plan I imagine?

In my experience, I was always asked to enter my pin when using dining plan credits, for everything from a table service meal to a mickey ice cream snack.

Meal plan had a pin as well if I remember correctly.

So I'll need to give my teenage step kids my PIN??? Then they'll have access to my credit card? Now, my kids are not LIKELY to abuse this, but I imagine some kids out there would.

Can anyone verify if this is how it works for meal plans?

You can put no charging privilages on their magic bands. They will only have access to the DDP.

Sounds like it buckles on the wrist similar to the FitBit Flex I have been wearing every day for the past two months. If that's the case, there should be no issues with it falling off.

So they will still need the PIN then, I take it?

Also- I cannot seem to find on MDE where to confirm that others in my party do not have "charging privileges."

Removing charging privlages is easiest done at resort check in.

Its pretty similar to the FitBit Flex. I think its a tad easier to close but it is about as secure on your wrist as the Flex is.

Yes, you need a PIN to use dining credits and yes, if you have children/teens that you want to be able to use dining credits on their own they will need to know the PIN. You can remove charging privileges from their accounts at check-in (that does mean you will have to go to the front desk if you're eligible to bypass it) or just don't do online check-in and do everything at the resort.
