Please help

I have read countless rules and regulations regarding the transfer of points but this is a post I have found and I need some quick answers.

"I am looking to transfer my remaining 2006 points - they are March Use Year - $10 per point -

Transfer only, not for rent - They can be used for travel between March 1st, 2007 and Feb 28th, 2007."

Something here doesn't sound correct to me. If these are March use year 2006 points then aren't they technicallay March 06- march 07 points? Doesn't this mean this person has "borrowed" 2006 points. Also once they are transferred to me they remain their current use year but do I really have to travel between March 2007 and Feb 2007? I thought you just had to book the points before they expired. Any thoughts on this out there??

Borrowed points cannot be transferred. So if the person did borrow the points, they cannot be transferred out. He/She can only make reservations with them and rent the reservation. I also think there is a typo in the owner's post and that he/she meant 3/1/2006 - 2/28/2007. Good idea to confirm before proceeding.


Points have to be used for a stay before they expire - you can't use them to make a reservation for a stay that occurs after they expire, even if you call to make the reservation before the expiration date.

That said, unless you also have a March use year, there may be more or less time for you to use the points than the post indicated. MS needs to put the points into your account and depending on how they have to do that, you could end up with more or less time than the original owner might have had. If you have a specific use for the points, that may not matter.

FWIW, before I agreed to any transfer, I'd get all the info about the points (home resort, use year & status) and then I'd call MS to make sure the points would be valid for the reservation I wanted to make. I get the name of the CM I talked to and note the date & time of the conversation. There are just too many nuances to tranferring to assume anything. JMHO. YMMV.
