Please help! Tell us what we should do. Have been patrons at Universal Orlando Resort since 2001, just finished a 5 day summer vacation there, and we found out that the maid that serviced our room on the 4th day of our vacation, stole my wife's purse. Have been trying to work with Universal Orlando to resolve the matter. We have been speaking with Jaque & Neil in Security. Johanna & Christina, Front Desk Managers (407-503-3175) and Steve Gallagher (407-503-9131) in Investigations. We have been treated so rudely, they claim to have no record of us reporting this to them and do not want to help us resolve this in a professional manner. We did not want to have to file a police report and turn it over to insurance, but they refuse to claim responsibility for the happenings at their resort. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First I am sorry this happened to you. There are many people who can have access to your room besides housekeeping. This can be maintenance workers, bellhops, room service staff, they can all have pass keys and I would not assume it was a specific person unless you have some kind of evidence.

Unfortunately you should have gotten something in writing at least from security or the duty manager when you reported it, I assume you reported it right away when you noticed it was missing before you left the hotel. I am not sure what your motives/reasons are for including the specific names and phone numbers of the people you talked to in your original post?? What is the resolution you want, that you mention in your post? All they are required to do is conduct and investigation and probably fire someone if they can work out who stole the purse.

I would call back to security and/or investigations and inquire if the electronic key system on the hotel room doors record who goes in and out of the room. Most do and the pass keys are usually assigned to a specific person. So they should have a record of what persons key was used to access your room and the times. Then tell them that you are going to make a report to the police.

I would advise you to write to Lowes hotel management explaining the circumstances, specific dates and times, do not accuse anyone and see what response you get, again I am not sure what resolution you want but if you have one state it, but keep in mind they are probably not responsible for any payment or replacement unless the items were in the hotel safe. You still have the option of contacting the police just to report what is going on, that you tried to work with the hotel management, and to see what they advise.

You should file a police report. i don't understand why you are hesitating- this is theft.

You should have filed it missing the first day it happened and did a police report if you were 100% certain that you might not have just taken it out with you and left it somewhere. When going to any resort/hotel I don't bring a purse and we always lock everything up in a safe, hopefully you were able to do that.

It really sucks that we saved for a vacation and someone took advantage of us. Trust me, we are not taking this laying down.

If you file a police report (they may still do an incident one after the fact:confused3) you could possibly be able to claim non-cash loss with your homeowners policy, might want to give insurer a call if the bag was expensive or large $ value that'd be offset by your deductible. good luck
