Please help with Borrowing points question

I'm planning a trip for next May (2005) and we are taking my SIL and her family as a treat and also bringing along her in-laws so we decided to get 1 2-bedroom plus 1 studio. We then decided to offer to bring my other SIL and her family as well and have increased the room situation to 2, 2-bedrooms. Here is my question: When I make reservations in June, I'll have 170 points that were banked from this past Oct use year (2003-2004), plus the 200 that we'll have for the use year in which we take the trip (2004-2005); however, if we bring the other SIL we'll need to borrow points from the following use year (2005-2006). Will I be able to complete that reservation in June or do I have to wait until Oct. to borrow 05-06 use year points for an 04-05 trip? Wow - that sounds really confusing. Kudos to anyone who understood it .

I like to recommend people make themselves a use year chart for their specific use year. Then it's easy to see banking and borrowing between years.

Use year determines your vacation dates. Nothing more. It has nothing to do with making reservations.

For an October UY, your chart would look like this:

2004.....Oct 1, 2004 through Sep 30, 2005
2005.....Oct 1, 2005 through Sep 30, 2006
2006.....Oct 1, 2006 through Sep 30, 2007
2007.....Oct 1, 2007 through Sep 30, 2008
2008.....Oct 1, 2008 through Sep 30, 2009

and so on.

A vacation in May 2005 requires points from your 2004 use year. (Vacation time period Oct 1, 2004 through Sep 30, 2005.

You can get vacation points into your 2004 use year 3-ways: 1. Bank 2003 points, 2) Your regular 2004 allotment, 3) Borrow 2005 points.

Now to answer your question. No you don't have to wait until October to make the reservation. The reservation is still made at 11-months ahead of check-out date. When you make the reservation in June 2004, MS will first use the 170 banked points from 2003, then next will use the 200 points for your regular 2004 allocation, and finally will borrow any 2005 points as needed to complete the reservation.
