Please help:should I purchase the TIW card??

It really sounds like the TIW card is the way to go. I did do a price comparison with some of the menus based on our ADR's and can see that we will save some money especially since, even when we are on the DDP, I always wind up paying for appitizers and some alcohol drinks.

Warning: "heresy" coming!

I agree that unless your eating patterns track what you get on the DP you're better off using TIW...BUT!!!

I got the TIW card this year--and discovered as I went from restaurant to restaurant (over the course of 3 trips) that my AP and/or my Disney Visa got me essentially the same discount, pretty much all the time.

Didn't track it "scientifically" but did ask at each restaurant which of my possible discounts was best (TIW, Disney Visa, AP or DVC)...in all but about 2 places, AP and/or Disney Visa were as good as TIW; one place didn't take TIW at all and at no place was the DVC discount as good as the TIW, Disney Visa or AP...

So, if you have an AP and a Disney Visa, you can probably save most, if not all, of what you'd save w/the TIW card...

I know I'm not going to buy it again next year...

Of course, if you don't use APs and don't have a Disney Visa, this is irrelevant!

Have fun w/whatever you decide...

In addition to what Maistre Gracey pointed out regarding the AP discounts the same is true of the DVC and Disney Visa Discounts. Most are limited to 10% for breakfast and lunch and exclude alcohol. There are a small number that offer a 20% DVC discount for lunch, ie. Wolfgang Puck's, Chef de France, Nine Dragons, Fulton's Crab House, and Portobello. House of Blues offers a 20% DVC discount prior to 4:00 pm. Again alcohol is not included. Disney Visa is 10% for breakfast/lunch at select locations. TIW is 20% for any meal and includes adult beverages at 70+ locations. In addition there is free Theme Park and Resort parking for dining purposes, Member-Only invitations to exclusive events, and Free Admission to Boardwalk's Atlantic Dance for TIW member and guest.

I am also a fan of the TIW card. Just remember that an automatic gratuity is placed on your bill of 18%. Also, Fantasmic dinner package is not allowed on the TIW. You can get your drinks separated our of that bill and take the discount off of those, though.

what is the basis of your confusion ? Please elaborate.

I will be staying with DD for 12 nights next May at AKV and BCV. We will be celebrating her 21st birthday. I have an AP and right now was thinking of doing the DDP.

I just made my dining reservations for our 12 nights. Table service restaurants everynight (probably with an alcohol drink), Brown Derby Fantasmic package and one night at Jiko as part of the Wayanama Sunset Safari Tour. Lunch would probably be counter service and then just our daily water and snacks.

I am still confused about the TIW card. Based on my dining plans, would I be better off with purchasing the TIW card or purchasing the DDP which would cost me roughly $1100 or so.

I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you

Mimmiepnp :)

I was confused as to (between the TIW or DDP) which one would be more financially prudent based on my dining needs as outlined above.

I do thank everyone for your responses and I do thing that I will be purchasing the TIW card for our May trip. :)
