Hi there.

We are heading for DISNEY in December. There is a very deserving, single Mom of a 2.5 year old who would like to join us for a few days but need to do it on a SUPER budget.

She is arriving at 10:30 am on the 12th of December (not picking it up till after 11am as it takes time to get luggage) and leaving at 2:35 pm on the 16th... I was thinking that she would drop off the car at noon though... (Anything to avoid paying the extra day)

Can anyone here help find the BEST rate on a car (does not have to be big..It's just her and a 2.5 year old). I want to help make her trip. She really needs this vacation and I just want to see the kid's face when she sees Mickey for the first time...

Anyone know of any codes for a really cheap car for those days...

Thanks for any help...

Hi -- Single mom here too so i will tell you what i know and hope it helps.. have you checked the codes on Mousesavers.com ? there should be some car codes on there to save $$
Michelle

USD$
Compact was 122.xx with priceless code
Inter was 119.xx with priceless and e-book $20.00 off coupon
economy was 114.00 with priceless code

inter was 146.xx with C/W code and e-book coupon
compact was 151.xx with c/w code
economy was 141.xx with c/w code

Hope this helps, also check your PM's. She could do quick rent with national and not worry about going off site, or lugging the little one too far. But I am sure that Dollar or Payless or EZRent would be cheaper. Check out www.rentalcodes.com for all sorts of codes and coupon links.

Since she's on a budget why doesn't she take Mears? By the time you pay for the rental, fees, gas and tolls Mears ($29--less if you have a coupon) is going to be cheaper. Mears is free for children under 3.

She will be staying off-site and will really need a car..

I have been checking Mousesavers but my time is limited as it is the END of YEar here for our business...I will try to check later tonight when I have more time.

Is your friend firm on the days she will be joining you? I believe you can get better rates if you have a Friday/Saturday night included in your reservation. For example, I ran your friend's original dates of 12/12 to 12/16, Intermediate class, using the Priceless code, and it came to $158.xx.

Then, I used 12/10 to 12/14 (moving trip up two days to include a Friday and Saturday night), same Intermediate class, same Priceless code, but with a coupon for a free weekend day, and the total was $108.xx (includes all fees/taxes).

BTW...this was through National.

Not sure if this helps or not.....

Firm dates...Already booked the tickets through airmiles points so no changing them...:(

Aren't there codes out for WDW resorts thru Dec. I thought BAT was good for her dates. She could stay at POP and use mears instead of renting. a car and be onsite?

She is staying at our condo and even Pop is too much.

She wants her own vehicle because we tend to go for full days and with a 2.5 year old, she does not want to tie us down...We have other people to visit while she is there and We don't want to hinder her plans...

Looks like Dollar @ MCO Airport for an economy car would be $100.00 including tax and fees. Pick up would be Dec. 12th drop off would be Dec. 16th. Hope this helps.

I am a BIG believer in having a car if you're staying offsite BUT a rental will probably cost at least $100 more than Mears when you include tolls, parking and gas.

How far is your condo from the parks? If you drive her most of the time does your condo offer a shuttle bus? If she only need a cab once or twice she'd still save money.

Make sure she checks to see if her auto policy covers her with a rental. The optional coverages will ruin her budget.

I would try hotwire and/or Priceline.

I would try a priceline bid since you have a while and that is a pretty slow time period....if you bid $14/day with taxes and fees it comes to $81 for the rental period. (assuming she is 25 or over).

I have seen bids as low as $13/day accepted for an economy or compact....give it a try

Budget has a Mastercard deal going on now. She could get an economy car for just under $102, but she'd have to bring her own car seat. A car seat adds $7 per day.

If she doesn't want to bring her car seat, I have an Avis coupon for a free car seat if you need it.

This is Thrifty using a Walmart code that anyone can use. Type in walmart in the promotion code box. If you are a member of SAMs club, the code sams can be used along with an additional $15.00 discount coupon (available at SAMs). The coupon is used at the time of the rental. The $15 is taken off before taxes and fees.

Thrifty is off-site, Shuttle to and from MCO.

alamo has some good rates, i have ent coupon if you need one for her,
good luck
single mom here too !

Whatever rental company she chooses, be sure to tell her to refuse ALL additional insurance (including "basic coverage") if she has such insurance herself already (if she's insured, she probably does). These additionals can take a low rental rate and turn it into a bugdet-buster.

I was able to get a compact through priceline for November 2-9 for 12.00 per day. Give it a try, it worked out to be 87.00 less than the alamo website for the week.
