Please Help...IPOD Questions

I have a 20 gig ipod I got for Xmas last year and bought a 4 gig nano recently. I get better battery life off the nano because it's flash memory based. the transfer rates are slower on the nano, but it doesn't skip like my ipod, and it's sooo much lighter. I've got about 650 songs on the nano and still have half a gig left. love them both.

You statement is true, for sure. But iTunes is a main reason to get an iPod. Great music store, the software itself is great, and, most importantly, the songs you download are in the AAC format, which is a better compression scheme than mp3. And you can encose all your songs to AAC if you want.

The big downside to that is that AAC is not easily converted to mp3. But it can be done.

Better compression really means nothing to the average user. It also means nothing to me with a huge amount of storage on my mp3 player

the downside is when you want to burn CD's...

I've never used iTunes, and I would be willing to bet, theres nothing I cant do that you can...except AAC

my boyfriend just recently got a nano. of course, he's the kind of person that when he gets something he treats it like it's gold and covers it and coddles it to death. he bought an invisible cover for it, i believe it's called the invisible shield (www.theinvisibleshield.com). once applied and dried, you definitely can see right through it, like it's not even there. i was really impressed. it's also really really strong. granted, it is kind of expensive. apparently the apple shields called nano tubes are supposed to be really excellent as well, but i don't think they've started sending them out yet.

i'm definitiely buying myself a nano when i get the chance, no doubt.

I have an I-trip for my 20G IPod. It cost $35 and it sticks into the hole on the top of your IPod. You tune your FM radio to 87.9 and ta-da...your IPod plays on your radio. I also have the Bose docking station for it to play my IPod at home and when we're having parties, etc. It has awesome sound.

My son has a 6G IPod Mini in blue...he loves it. I just got it for him in July and I can't believe they're getting discontinued. He would have loved the Nano...but I didn't know about them when I bought it.

AH, but the HUGE problem with the iTrip comes when you live ina radio wave congested area. You may not find a frequency clear to hear your iPod. Go with the cable if at all possible.

Now here we have to disagree. At loud volumes the compression of mp3 is extremely evident. Especailly if only at 128kps. Now if you go 320, then not so bad. But most people use 128. AAC holds up FAR better when played at loud volumes..... and when I listen to my AC/DC, Ted Nugent, Metallica, KISS.... well..... if it's too loud, you're too old!

with storage capacity so cheap these days you always download at the highest bitrate you can find. I think the designers of itunes and the AAC compression source should be up for a Nobel prize.

but, the quality of the output- will be evident by what your playing through...for instance, a crappy car stereo- doesnt matter how good the compression is- crappy output. If your listening through crappy earphones- again, doesnt matter....when I use my mp3 in my car, I dont have the thing cranked....just the stereo...so it's as good of sound as if it was a CD or the radio etc..especially if your listening through the FM deal with an MP3 player, i agree with you on the radio congestion etc.

mp3 CD is what i meant...plus, you have to convert all your CD's to AAC format dont you to import em? Doesnt that take time?
