Please help!! Going to OuterBanks, NC

We leave for Frisco in four weeks. We have always stayed ON the beach in Rodanthe but have opted for a soundfront home on Brigands Bay so we can explore the sound. I have never stayed in the northern beach areas because they look so developed compared to Hatteras. We prefer remote. For camping, there is a great campground on Ocracoke(beware the greenheads) and another really nice one in Frisco. Other 'camping' areas are mostly RV parking lots. If you have an RV, you'll like any of them I guess. House rental on Hatteras is primarily done with the following companies.

"oceanfront" usually means looking over a dune. rodanthe has some REAL oceanfront properties. We stayed 4th of July week last year-fireworks all over the place on the beach. It was wonderful for several days. The kids got bored with fireworks-can you imagine?

Love the Outer Banks..We stayed in Nags Head August 2004 and witnessed Hurricane Andrew - that was interesting. We rented a house with another family through stanwhite.com... Very happy with the house - clean and big. We stayed soundside and actually liked it better than oceanfront. It was cheaper and we prefered the soundside beach because the water was not as "rough" for the kids as oceanfront. The kids could wade into the water without us being right by their side.

We enjoyed relaxing on the beach the most, but we did have fun on a dolphin tour. We did buy a kite and fly it on Jockey Ridge at sunset - spectacular!

Georges Junction closing is a good thing!!!!! We should have walked out as soon as we walked in.. None of had a good feeling about it and for good reason. Our friend was unlucky enough to get food poisoning from the tartar sauce. On his Birthday no less. Luckily, it only lasted a night and did not ruin the rest of his trip.........Now the most fantastic meal was at Tale of the Whale! The BEST fish I have ever eaten. Very handsome waiter too - that was a bonus!

Come prepared with a beach umbrella and chairs because the sun at the beach is hot and you will welcome the shade!

Okay, I'm leaving Friday morning for a camping trip to Hatteras Island. We were just there two weeks ago. We LOVE it! Lots of shopping, we really like the North Carolina Aquarium in Manteo (go out back and look for shark teeth in sediment that was brought up from the ocean floor). We drive our truck on the beach at Oregon Inlet and on Hatteras Island. We beach fish (caught SHARKS last time!!!). We go to Jockey's Ridge which is great for taking pictures, leave your shoes in the car, but bring some water, a camera and maybe a kite! If you are adventurous, they offer hangliding lessons there. Most folks think of the beach there, but remember the quiet sound side. There is kayaking, sailboarding, etc. I hope you have a great time. I have to go pack! Oh... there is a Life is Good store there, right next to Kitty Hawk Kites. Be sure to stop there (KHK) and take the kids upstairs, lots of neat kites and toys. Um, to keep in mind, we pack snacks in coolers to take to the beach. Food is not immediately accessible from the beach, no boardwalk etc. Just like we like it! Okay, really gotta go pack now!

We just came back from there Sunday. A few good places to eat are Awful Arthurs, Mulligans and Jolly Rogers. Decent prices and the locals frequent there so you know the pricing is right. You can eat JR's breakfast special for 1.99 pp. It is very good too!! They also make some of the best coffee around. I also like Stack em High ( I think that is the name of it) because they make a killer cup of coffee.

I was waiting on someone to mention Awful Arthurs! I love that place. Sitting up top is always fun, too. With the awesome views of the ocean. Very relaxing.

I also love Goombays and was totally heartbroken to know Quagmires is gone.

We had 2 family reunions at nags head,and it was great. My fil's family rents huge house on the beach and the the 6 siblings split the costs, so it's free for the their kids (dh and our family).

Was there anything in the George's Juction building? Or did it get "hurricaned"? We didn't try to go there in 2006, we were up in Corolla that year..

This time of year is nice at OBX, right before it gets tourist-jammed. Okay, yeah, I am a tourist, too, but I DONT enjoy the 4:00 Saturday jams at Food Lion Off season the traffic is much more reasonable.

Its been torn down and houses have been put up in its place. They went up in the last 2 years.

Hey only thing about sitting up top they do not always serve you the same things as they do down stairs...or am I now getting confused with JR. lol I do not think so though.

I can not wait to fall comes so we can go back. I love my friend's house down there.

My inlaws had a beach house down there and we'd visit alot. A great restaurant is Owens Restaurant on the Beach Road (our favorite) another one is Penguin Isle (think that's what it's called) next to the big windmill on the sound side. Of course, Awful Arthurs. We always liked going to Manteo and The Christmas Shoppe but it closed. I was sooo sad. I LOVED that place! We'll go to the Cotton Gin too. And I like Scarborough Faire Shops in Duck. We'll do the aquarium, went to the lighthouse, and Elizabethen Gardens, and there's a ship in Manteo..but I can't remember much about it.
