Hi,
I am a DVC member I booked an extra room for my daughters boyfriend family.

Her boyfriend brother is severely Autistic, he is 21. I just looked on website about interview and it says cannot do more than 30 days in Advance.

There decision to come to Disney will depend on what he is entitled to.
I have to cancel my room more than 30 days or I lose points.

1.How does DAS work if he gets approved?
2. Will he be able to go with his immediate family on rides ?(4 people)
3. Will my party be able to do any rides with them?
Thanks for any insight.
Thanks

The first post of this thread details DAS. You only need to read the first post, not the whole thread.

Applying for DAS 30 days in advance of a visit is quite new for WDW, within the past year. Prior to that, DAS was only given in the parks once you arrived.

DAS does 1 thing -- it allows the user and their party to obtain a Return Time, sort of like a FP. Do whatever you'd like until the return time: get a snack, take a break, do another attraction with a short wait, etc. Then go to the ride any time after the time noted, it doesn't expire but you cannot obtain another until you use it.

Usually DAS allows the DAS-holder plus 5 others. It may be possible to add more guests, but any given attraction will likely limit to 6. So your family might be added, but depending on how many that makes you may need to rotate who rides with the DAS-holder. If there are attractions the DAS-holder will not or cannot do, you might consider purchasing Genie+ because the DAS-holder must ride in order to use DAS.

Thanks for the info.
Should I add all of them to my account MDE?
Thought it would be easier .
Or should they create their own?
Thanks

Will you feel comfortable giving this family access to your MDE account -- log-in and password? If you manage their profiles they will need that to initially set-up the DAS as well as in-park to schedule DAS Return Times. It might be better to let them create their own MDE and then link everyone as Friends & Family. That way they control their own account but both groups will be able to work on plans -- DAS Return Times, Genie+ or I$LLs, ADRs, etc.

Ok .
So they can have an account, AND I can add them as family and friends to my account? So I can book dining, maybe genie etc?
Thanks

I would have them make their own account and just put each other your friends and family list.

You don't "add" them as much as you "link" to them in MDE. Folks on the TPAS forum will be much more helpful in guiding you through how to link since I haven't needed to do that. But it allows you to see their plans/reservations/tickets and they can see yours. You'll be able to make theme park reservations for everyone, Genie+ and/or I$LLs, and ADRs. As well as everyone can access the DAS in the parks to obtain a Return Time.

Getting DAS is not based on diagnosis, and Disney is not interested in seeing a doctor’s note or other written material (unless it is easier for the guest to communicate in writing).

The DAS applicant (or their parent, guardian, or companion) needs to explain the problem the individual has with waiting in a regular line. If the problem relates to stamina (tiredress) or mobility exclusively, it is likely that the Cast Member will not issue DAS but instead recommend a wheelchair, ECV, or other device. The individual with the disability must be present when the application is made (either virtually or in person).

Yes it is not about stamina, mobility etc. He would just totally “freak” out and most likely try to push back through the line to escape “all the people” … “in his way”.

No worries. just providing you information so you know what to expect! The CMs are usually very helpful.

Just a warning - sometimes we had to wait more than 20 minutes to board, even using DAS. We waited a long time once at Soarin', and FoP seems to always have a long wait, at least for us. Maybe show his family some videos of the queues beforehand to get an idea of what he would be expected to be able to handle in line?

And the lines have gotten ridiculous with the selling of Genie+. I have found that many rides you wait much longer then standby people because the lines in the LL have been crazy. I think the longest that I waited in the LL once was a half an hour. So anyone with DAS will wait just as long as the Genie+ or LL people do. They really do need to adjust the return time to from the 10 minutes below posted to 15 at least for those rides that have a long LL line.
