We normally go in January or February, and so we're used to empty parks. This spring, however, Easter was the only time we could go. We were there the entire week before Easter. We had cold feet before going because people on the discussion boards were talking about how incredibly crowded it was. And, yes, it was very crowded. But we still had a great time. We had a guest with us who had never been--and so we needed to show her all the highlites. Three things made it a great success: 1) fast pass; 2) we got to the parks somewhat early and then usually took breaks in the afternoon; and 3) we arranged priority seating so we were guaranteed at least one relaxing meal each day.
I know it sounds like an exaggeration, but we truly never waited more than 10 minutes for anything. When we went in the morning we did one or two popular attractions while also getting a fast pass for another popular attraction. As soon as we'd use up that fast pass we'd get another one and while waiting for that fast pass window to open we would shop or go on a line with no rides. By doing that we could always get in 5 or 6 rides within the first couple of hours in a park--and then the pressure is off. You're free to shop, take in a street show, or go enjoy your meal--while still feeling like you beat the crowds and got your money's worth. Then we'd take a break and return in the evenings. As exhausted folks were streaming out of the parks we were able to repeat the morning's experience.
As the week went on the crowds grew and grew--but the strategy kept on working.
Try it. Admittedly it's not as perfect as when the parks are empty. After all there's nothing like strolling down main street with only a few dozen people on it. And that's definitely not the Easter experience. But it still smells like Disney, sounds like Disney, and there are certain to be some of those special Disney moments.
