Please Explain the Waitlist

We currently have a reservation for next summer at BCV, our home resort. We plan to switch to BWV at the 7 month mark. We've never stayed at Boardwalk and would like to try it out. Our first choice is a SV, to add on a couple more nights, but we will take either of the other views if they are available. How does it work if we ask to be put on the waitlist for a SV? You can choose to either waitlist day by day or for the whole stay. Then you choose whether you want them to call you if something comes available or do auto-confirm. If you do auto-confirm you don't receive a call, just a confirmation letter with your new accomodations. If you waitlist day by day you have a better chance but you run the risk of not getting all your nights and having to switch resorts. You can always check your waitlist status online. You cannot check "where you are in the waitlist line" either on-line or by calling MS. You can check your reservations on-line to see if a waitlist came through. It would show in the current reservations section as well as the point transaction section.
