I would like to know the proccess of DVC members transfering points. I know it's only allowed once per UY.

We would like to get to WDW every year but it works out to about every other year. I am interested in a small (100p) contract but would like to find out how this point transfer thing works because I will probaby need it sometime down the road.

Don't plan on an annual point transfer because you might not be able to find a member willing to transfer the smaller amount of points you need. I've seen a few point transfer threads where the member is willing to transfer a large amount of points because they want to get rid of all their points for that use year. They don't want to mess around with renting a reservation for a non-member. They want to get the money and go.

If a point transfer might be a once in a while event, go with your smaller point purchase (if you can get it past ROFR). But if you'll need it regularly, purchase more points to begin with.

After I buy into DVC wouldn't I be a member?

There is usually just the DW and myself so a studio (80-82p) would work out great but occacionaly there may be others that join us. What I am getting at is if every 3 - 5 years I need a 2 - 3 bedroom unit for family that comes with us and I have say 200 points (current UY & borrow) but need 372 points (based on OKW, GV, choice season) how would a person go about transfering the 172 points they need after finding a willing DVC'r to transfer their points.
Does the once a year transfer include banking & borrowing? I don't think it does but I am not a member so I cannot say with 100% certanty.

Is the price the same as renting a reservation ($10-14pp)?
Is there a set price per point with-in DVC?
Do the 2 parties negotiate the price?
Am I basicly borrowing the willing DVC'r points then transfer my points to them later?

These are things I would like to find out before I buy toooo small or toooo big of a contract. At this point and time of our lives it seems like a 150 point (minimum thru DVC) contract is overkill for a one week stay at a studio every other year during our favorite time of year which would be Adventure & Choice seasons. When you only get 1 week of vacation time a year then it makes it a tad bit difficult to go twice a year. If I find the need later in life I can always do an add-on at the same resort providing availability.

Banking and borrowing are completely separate from transferring points. The once per use year applies only to transferring points to another member or accepting points from another member. Nothing to do with banking or borrowing.

Price is negotiable - it's whatever the two parties agree to do. The range you posted is a pretty good one for now, but it could certainly change in the future. Keep in mind that DVC prohibits transfers for money (but no one here knows how or if that rule will ever be enforced). DVC will not get involved if any dispute arises - you are on your own for anythign like that.

No.

Yes.

You could do it that way if you find someone else who would agree. This would take place over two use years (1-transfer rule), so I think few would be willing to do this.

Or you could just rent a reservation for some of the GV days you need from someone (rather than accept transfer points) and then have the rented reservation linked to the GV days you reserve with your own points.

Best wishes -
