Please don't use flash on PotC

How about the person who kept taking pictures of the Soarin' screen the whole time the last time we were there. I could remotely understand people wanting pictures in POTC or something similar (though that does annoy me too), but she was basically taking pictures of a movie screen - how dumb is that?

When someone was taking pictures when I was on Soarin someone came on the loud speaker and told them to stop or they would stop the ride and take the offenders off.

Get over yourselves....I was there in May and don't recall any postings or announcements that said you could not take pictures on POTC.

I must be one of the "annoying" ones who took pictures for my 3 year old to show to his friends and family when we got back home...

Sorry........but I did it for my children. Who cares if people take pictures in the dark?

When it is night time on main street, should I not take pictures of the castle because there is going to be a flash?

You should not do it bc it's very inconsiderate of other guests. Instead of taking pictures for your children, why not teach them a lesson abt being considerate of others? So whether you want to realize it or not, it does ruin the experience of the ride for other guests, including myself. That's why it's a rule in the first place. Just videotape it. Then no one else is bothered.

I think that is rude and inconsiderate!

Some people may only get to go to DisneyWorld/land once in their lives and you are saying that they cannot have memories! I think that is totally wrong and I guess I am to inconsiderate people as well because I want to remeber my trip .

What i fthey don't have a video camera. Not all people are that privilaged.

Feel free to take pictures on PotC. Just turn the flash off. Very simple. Otherwise, you are ruining MY vacation. They can have plenty of memories, please do. Main street is different because you're not getting in people's faces and you're not ruining a carefully orchestrated ride. More importantly, it IS a rule and like it or not, I expect you to follow it.

I can't believe that there are people defending the people who take flash pictures on rides where it is clearly not allowed. :faint: :headache: :sad2:

Maybe it is me but I don't get why it's a big deal taking pictures. It's never bothered us on any rides. Not that we take pictures throughout all the rides. I also don't get why it is a big deal if I am talking quietly to my children pointing things out to them and explaining stuff. I don't act like a tour guide but I speak quietly to just them. I"m not flaming anyone- I just don't get it.:confused3

I don't think it's a big deal if you talk QUIETLY to your children. The dad on Splash that I mentioned was talking LOUDLY.

Snap away if you're not using flashes...no problem. I do think it's really rude and inconsiderate to take flash pictures on rides. I don't let it ruin my day, but it certainly takes away from the experience when you're blinded by flashes.

Judging from this thread, a LOT of people. Judging from the constant "NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY" refrain during the instructions, Disney cares as well.

Happy to help. :)

...for example, IIRC, at the HM the ride narrator in your car says says something along the lines of "...and please, no flash photography. It frightens the spirits!"
I just listened to the ride audio from HM... the narrator actually tells you twice as you start the ride "Oh, yes... Please, no flash pictures! We spirits are frightfully sensitive to bright lights!" a minute later he says: "We spirits haunt our best in gloomy darkness! So remember, NO FLASH PICTURES (emphasis from the narrator).... Please!" I kinda of get the feeling they don't want you to use your flash on the ride?!?!?

100% agree...also, I have never seen any consequences to taking pictures. I mean how could there be any? I know it's not a cm's job to be camera police. It's almost to the point of being ridiculous as when the little spiel about no flash photography is over the cameras start a clickin' full force.

Why even have the rule when it's so blatantly ignored and no enforcement? It's almost a joke?:confused3

I have actually seen guests escorted out of a ride for using the flash on the ride. From what I saw the guard also took the camera away. They had been warned several times on the ride and they kept it up. Security was waiting for them at the end.

Before you get on the boat they make an announcement. I've been there 4 or 5 times since they've reopened it, and they've made the announcement every time.

Who cares if people take pictures in the dark?
It ruins the mood of the ride for everyone else. The lighting is done that way for a reason.

When it is night time on main street, should I not take pictures of the castle because there is going to be a flash?
You can use the Flash, the photo won't come out, unless you have a great flash, as you'll be too far away. Your best bet for a Castle picture at night is a tripod and no flash.

Sorry...I must call a king B.S. on this one!:rotfl2:

You get over yourself. Your flashes ruin the ride for everybody else.

Turn the flash off and nobody would have a problem.

Me, and a lot of other people care. Dark rides are meant to be DARK, not lit up by flashes.

When it is night time on main street, should I not take pictures of the castle because there is going to be a flash?
Taking a picture in front of the castle at night with a flash will most likely ruin the picture. Flashes are designed for close up shots, not something as far away as the castle is when taking a picture of it. Your kids will show up fine but the castle will be washed out.

I think that is rude and inconsiderate!
And ruining a ride for everbody else isn't?

Some people may only get to go to DisneyWorld/land once in their lives and you are saying that they cannot have memories!
You don't have to use flashes to have memories. You can still take pictures without the flash and you could also use your brain for memories.

I think that is totally wrong and I guess I am to inconsiderate people as well because I want to remeber my trip .
Remember it like I do, with your brain!

Well if they make an announcement then of course not. We do follow the rules, but it seems like even if there is no announcement people are mad.
To me it is logical that you don't use flash photography inside dark rides. Weather or not it was a rule it still ruins the experience for everybody else. There are always announcements anyway, just because you tune them out doesn't mean you are exempt from the rules.

Sorry...I must call a king B.S. on this one!:rotfl2:
Why? Do you think livndisney is lieing about this? Do you think security wouldn't be waiting sometimes for the offenders? The flash users ruined the experience for everybody else and security has been known to kick people out of the park for ruining the experience of others in different ways, why not for taking flash photos where it is forbidden?

I don't know if security has ever been waiting for somebody taking flash pictures as they got off the ride but I wish they would. If more people had their pictures deleted/film removed and repeat offenders kicked out then less people would take flash photos. It wouldn't hurt if Disney put up more signs, maybe one at the entrance of the park saying no flash photography on attractions and also a warning on the park maps. The ride CMs should at least say something to the offenders.

The rule is no flash photography on ANY attraction. If people insist on using their flash, even after being warned over the P.A. then the ride should be stopped and the offender escorted off. The other riders should be then given the option to ride again.

If only more people would think about somebody else but themselves there wouldn't be this problem.

I thought it was just me that it bothered. Follow the rules people. Follow the rules!

What's funny is that even WITH a flash, most point and shoot cameras take horrible pictures in the darkness of PotC. (It can't focus in the low light)

Another thing about it that maddening is that as as semi-pro photographer I know the fact that in all likelihood, they are doing it for nothing worth keeping because one of two things will happen:

1) The flash on their point-n-shoot cameras isn't powerful enough to adequately light the scene since it has an effective distance of 10-15 feet. Then end result will be either dark and/or grainy high ISO images that look terrible.
-OR-
2) The flash is powerful enough to light the scene, but as a result totally destroys the theatrical lighting of the attraction and the photos look nothing like you remember from the ride. Instead, it looks like someone has flung open an outside door on a sunny day right behind you!

People need to do themselves a favor a spend a few dollars and buy the WDW park souvenir book with the quality photos inside that actually look like what you see on the attraction. If you want photos for the scrapbook, buy some postcards. Save you camera for photos of you and your family in the world outside

Bingo on all of these. What I think is awesome is that there are some converts on the first few pages. Thank you for seeing the figurative light! Boo to all of the people on these last few pages trying to defend BREAKING DISNEY'S RULES and violating the comfort of others around them for ridicuolous reasons. If you really can't understand it after the last 7 pages, it's probably just better for you not to speak up.

What's sad IMO is that there is anybody to convert and sadder still people are defending ruining other people's experience. If people would just stop and think about it then more would realize that flashes going off inside of attractions ruin the experience for every single other person in their ride vehicle and the ones in front and behind them.
