Please don't use flash on PotC

I completely agree!!! Thank you for this thread. We had someone behind us on our second ride through take pic after pic after pic, with a flash.

The other ride we ran into a problem with was Nemo...someone videotaped the ride all the way through with a bright light on the front of their video camera. Totally took away from the experience.

That happened while I was on it last february. The guy knew he was being annoying too because he kept looking down to see if people were looking at him.... yup.. I was. hehe

We were there jut last week and DD10 turned to me while on PoTC and asked me if the people behind us should be taking pics. Even SHE knew it wasn't cool to do this.

I've seen a picture here and there, but never nothing that ruined a ride for me. I Never knew Snow White was off limits to pictures. Does it say that anywhere? There are Places in that ride where you are the only car.

This happened to us on our May 2006 trip. We were directly behind a group that kept turning and taking pics on the POTC ride. I thought for sure that one of the CM's would stop the ride or make an announcement. I don't know if they didn't understand English or what. This past trip we didn't ride with anyone that took pics but we could see people in two boats ahead of us that were. There seems to be a growing number of people that seems to think that it's their vacation and rules don't apply to them. :sad2:

I agree that it seems that the number of people taking flash pictures in the dark rides has increased. I don't remember it ever being as bad as it was when we were there over Memorial Day weekend. On POTC, there were people taking flash pictures in 3 rows of our boats. It really ruined my enjoyment of the ride. I think the CM's at the end of the ride should take their cameras and delete those pictures!!!!!! I'd love to take pictures on those rides too, but I follow the directions when it says no flash photography.

I wish the PA would do that at WDW, I've never heard it on the ride. Just before you board the boat.

Oh, it does if the CM's are paying attention. I once rode PoTC and an Asian couple were excitedly video taping the entire ride with flood lights, no less. Not only did they make an announcement, they actually stopped the ride. When the offending couple appeared not to understand the group in the boat started to make hand gestures trying to tell them to put the camera down. They finally did but as soon as the ride started back up...there went the camera again. The ride was once again stopped and this time it got through that they should not be doing it and they stopped.

I noticed them being spoken too as the got off the ride. It is mind boggling to me that someone doesn't have enough common sense to realize how that is ruining it for everyone. I don't understand how they can even enjoy it. I'm sure that they were provided with information, previous to their trip, in their own language, about the rules. The old, I can get away with anything, because I don't speak the language, is getting really old.

I noticed this on pirates, and nemo, flash after flash, come on folks, have a little consideration. In case you hadn't noticed there are other guests in WDW who would like to enjoy the ride. Buy a postcard.

I thought it was just me that it bothered. Follow the rules people. Follow the rules!

The purpose for no flash photography is not that Disney is being possessive or even that it is annoying, which it is. The reason is in dark rides the lighting is set precisely to give the viewer the best possible chance to feel the illusion. Flash photo's flood the entire area with light, exposing some of the back stage things that make the ride work, both physically and visually. Not only are these folks ruining it for others they are ruining for themselves as well.

We got to ride POTC again because of picture taking.

Last Sept. we were in the second row, 2 people in the front row, they had to have taken about 100 pictures!!! They used a video camera with flood light and the other used a camera with a BLINDING flash. How do I know it was blinding? Because apparently they weren't very good at taking pictures - the guy would miss the shot and then turn around and FLASH. I wonder how many times all he got was one of my family's heads!!!!! :rotfl:

Seriously, it was so bad we really didn't see much of the ride. When we pulled up to the station to get off, we quickly and loudly said "can we PLEASE stay on - those 2 were taking pictures the whole time and we didn't see a thing." The rest of the boat quickly chimed in "yeah, it was terrible. They were so rude. etc" They let the whole boat (minus the pair in the front) ride again.

We got lots of "thanks for saying something. we were thinking the same thing."

Now, it was Sept and it was NOT that crowded, but still very nice of the CMs. :thumbsup2

Thank you for this thread! We rode POTC three times last week and 2 of the times people took pictures. The second time we rode the people in the boat in front of us (we were in the front row of our boat) took pictures of every freakin' scene in the ride. They said "No flash photography" twice over the PA, but that didn't stop them. Really ruined the ride for us. I think people who do that should be taken aside after the ride and spoken to. We waited half an hour to have the ride totally ruined for us.

This also happened during the dino portion of the Universe of Energy. They tell you repeatedly "no flash photography". Does that stop people? No. Again, they said "no flash photography" over the PA system. Did that stop people? No. In fact the people right in front of us were taking pictures. By that point I had had it. I loudly said, "Wow! Some people are really deaf!" That stopped them. I was so ticked off by that point.

While I agree 100%, the offenders are not, unfortunately, reading this thread (or even if they are, they are thinking that this thread does not apply to them, because they only take a couple pictures).

100% agree...also, I have never seen any consequences to taking pictures. I mean how could there be any? I know it's not a cm's job to be camera police. It's almost to the point of being ridiculous as when the little spiel about no flash photography is over the cameras start a clickin' full force.

Why even have the rule when it's so blatantly ignored and no enforcement? It's almost a joke?:confused3

pirate:
Arrrgh! Any swabbies fool enough to render a flash in PoTC should be keelhauled!

Sometimes I have started looking directly at the offender, and saying "That means Stop with the Camera Already." They usually don't stop, but sometimes they just sneak a picture here and there.

Maybe if more people would say something...

My husband has a very powerful Nikon flash. Blinding powerful. He never uses it when on a ride.

If he has his camera with him and someone turns around to take that "special" and "magical" picture of a dark ride, he pulls it out, aims it and the next time they turn around he blinds them.

That usually stops 'em. :) :) :)

That said, it is happening more and more as people are buying compact digital cameras with built in flashes. They can be turned off, but I would bet most people don't know how.

This is one of the most annoying things!!! And it really ruins the experience for the other people with you!!

NEXT PERSON TO USE A FLASH GETS A ONE WAY TICKET TO DAVY JONES LOCKER!!pirate: ARRRR!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I can only remember riding once where no one used flashed photography. . .and it was just awesome!! I wanted to thank each individual person for not using it as we were getting off the ride!!

Two possible reasons for flash photography being used where it is not allowed...

1. Entitlement.

2. Knowing that it is not allowed, but too stupid to realize that it is ruining the attractions for fellow guests.

Maybe Disney should do what Universal does...no carry on bags allowed on most attractions and offer free lockers. Universal will stop the ride if they see someone with a camera or video camera. I know it might not stop everyone but if the camera or bag is stored in a locker...maybe people will stop ruining the ride for others. :confused3
