I'm trying to talk my 2 dd's-10 to ride this coaster at MGM. I can't find where I had read about this ride being smooth and somewhat tame. Can someone give us a description?
Thanks!

but the ride is very smooth compared to old-time roller coasters. You shoot out of the gate incredibly fast and it is a wild ride from there loop-de-loops and all. Fun ride with great themeing. They'll love it!

Rock-n-Roller Coaster is not a coaster for first timers. It reaches a top speed of 60-65 (can't remember which), which is at take-off. There is no big hill, like a traditional roller coaster. You are at a dead stop and then the train is launched into the ride. There are corkscrews (I think 2) and you do go upside down. The roller coaster is in the dark, not pitch black, there is neon lighting and black lights everywhere, and the entire time Aerosmith songs are blasting in your ears (pretty cool if you love Aerosmith ) . It is a very smooth coaster and a great ride for those who like roller coasters, but if there is any doubt, I would a couple of years before having them ride. Hope this helps!

It depends on your kids. It is very smooth, but like the others have said, it is very fast and goes upside down. Have your girls gone on any coasters that go upside down? For an upside down coaster it is tame, I suppose.

We were there a couple years ago when my son was 8yo and I could not talk him into going on it, but he doesn't like to go upside down. I did get him to go through the queue, with the understanding that he could use the chicken exit where his father and little brother were waiting on the other side. I'm hoping that he will go on it when we go in a year from now.

T&B

I agree it does depend on the child. Both my 9 year old DD and my 11 year old DS loved it, but they like thrill rides! To me, the take-off is without question the most breathtaking (literally) part of the ride. The rest of the ride goes so fast there is no time to be scared. I'd take the girls on some tamer coasters first (like Big Thunder Mountain) , and if they handle those with no problems, they are probably ready for Rockin' Roller Coaster.

I found all of the rides at WDW to be extremely tame compared to my local amusement park. R&R Roller Coaster was one of my favorites because of the "before show" and the speed though.

It's just not a Thrill Ride unless there's a big dip in my book if you're on a Roller Coaster. There were many kids younger than 10 on the ride when I was there and several of them commented on finding something more "cool" to ride and I'm guessing they meant exciting/thrilling. I bet your kids will love it.

I had a wonderful time though and will definitely go again!

I loved this but it is not tame or smooth imo..the first time I didn't keep my head back on the head rest and wrenched my neck ( the next 3 times I did!):teeth:

I just read some of the other posts and have to say I humbly disagree..I've been on a lot of coasters and and have never had my head move around on a steel track one as much as on this one.. I had to be conscious of keeping it back to keep my head relatively steady and I do think that is what threw my back out ...not that that stopped me from riding it as I am one of those bad people who ignore the "don't ride this if you have..." signs so I'm not complaining . just if your kids are really afraid of it I think space mountain is tamer ( just ignore my little "difficulty" I posted about in another thread:teeth: ) for a similar but not as fun ride imo

Our entire family loves roller coasters. My DD has been riding since she was 3 (the Big Bad Wolf at Busch Gardens Willamsburgh). The RnR is a LIM launch coaster (very fast acceleration). It is a smooth coaster and there is almost no head-banging that is common with over the shoulder restraints. The upside down comes from a corkscrew and a rollover (I think). These are both smooth elements as far as upside downs go. One advantage of RnR is it is dark so do you not tense up when you see the element coming.

My DD has been riding RnR since she was 6 (yes she is tall for her age). This was not her first coaster by a long-shot but it was her first LIM launch (most others have 52 or 54 inch height requirements).

I would not make this you DDs first major coaster ever - I would consider it for a first LIM and/or upside down.

This does have a low height requirement . (48). My son at 3, was at 48 inches (yes, he was huge). This was not his first "big" one... that one was Steel Force a few months prior at Dorney (first giga coaster at 207 feet!)

He liked the launch, and he was tall enough for it at the time... (fwiw, he was almost four!) He wasn't scared or anyting of it, and went on for three times in a row. To date, he has done many coasters!

As for the first timers, its not that bad.. its only about 60 mph in a few seconds... not that scary, just fast! (its almost as fast as a fast car or test track, or Tower of Terror) The inversions aren't that bad, and the corkscrew is pretty decent.

Its a nice coaster for Disney, but I enjoy Incredible Hulk/Kraken better.

RnR is fast, fun and LOUD. You will be glad you will have gone on this... Its not that scary for me,but we are a coasdter family.

I hate coasters, but I love this one and would recommend it to those wary of thrill rides. For me, Space Mountain is much scarier, simply because RnRC doesn't have any drops. You don't even realize you're upside down because it's so smooth and quiet. Just warn your daughters about the initial takeoff being very fast, but other than that the ride is pretty tame.

I second about Space Mountain being scarier, I hate that ride. I go on because sister and DFiance' want to, but I would ride RNR 10x before I would even ride SM once. I love RNR and I hate coasters too ... we have SW/BG passes and I have yet to ride Kraken or any of the ones at Busch. They just look scarier, I have ridden Dueling Dragons and would say RNR is "tamer" than that. The music and being in the dark helps a lot as most of my fear comes from site and I do not like going up the hill's on coasters for the drops ... where this one fly's out of the station I do not have a chance to tense up. Why not walk through the line let them see the launch (you will see this long before your actually ready to board) and let them decide. Our little brother was too short the last time and a little scared so when we got to the front the CM actually let him stand at the podium with her while we rode since we had gone through the whole line. Now he is tall enough and LOVES it. He's 7 BTW and normally a big chicken.

I agree with the other posters that the ride is not tame. I really like it. I would LOVE it if it was just a little longer. Because you are moving so fast it seems as if the ride is over just as soon as you get on it. I wasn't able to go on it the lasdt time we went to WDW because I was pregnant, but I will definitely be riding this time!

I rode RcNRC for the 1st and last time this past Christmas.
Space Mtn I'll do again. RcNRC was much too "thrilling" for me.
I got out and felt weak, sick and thought my heart rate would
never settle down. A CM made me sit down for a while. So much
for my bravery. lol. On the other hand=my thrill loving 8yo DS
rode it 3X. He adored TOT at 6 and cried for an hour when he was too short to ride RcNRC! When he finds out about those
parks with all the coasters- well....let's just keep that quiet, shall we!? So, IMHO, talking kids into this type of ride might put your
credibility into question if they do not already crave this kind of
thing. It made me feel like this:crazy:
mimi

not implying this is the case with the op as I am sure it is not but I was shocked to see parents dragging their kids on rides with the kids kicking and screaming they did not want to go . isn't that what the kid swap is for?I'm not talking about the kid being leary which maybe Dad( usually saw this with boys and the father )could "encourage" if he thinks they will really like it but the kid totally horrified and the parent yelling at them for it..family fun????? does a 6 -8 year old really have to prove how"macho" he is? rant over

I agree with the comment that compared to other roller coasters and traditional wooden coasters rockin roller coaster is somewhat smooth. Keep it in mind that it takes off very fast and while standing in line, you watch everyone take off..so that might scare them. There are no drops and when i was younger that was the only thing keeping me from riding coasters. Try getting your daughters to go on the runaway train at MK first and maybe they'll warm up to it.

I appreciate you all sharing your experiences with this ride. I have let my 10 dds read many of the responses and I think they just might try it once or at least stand in line with us. We will have been to MK before we get to the RnRR so they may be ready after riding BTMR and SM that is if I can get them on these. So one quick question for anyone; What is the child swap and how does that worK?
Thanks again!

When there are at least 2 adults (or older, responsible kids) with a child too young/short/scared to ride, you tell the CM that you want to do a "kid swap." Each ride is a little different in how they handle it, but in general, your party procedes together until you get to the loading point. Then one adult gets on the ride while the 2nd adult stays back with the child. After the 1st adult rides, he/she goes back to the front (sometimes you have to remind the CM's) and stays with the child while the 2nd adult rides.

It doesn't always run smoothly, and we've had a few problems with CM's who didn't seem to be aware of the policy. .... just a few, otherwise it's great for families with only one child. You don't have to go through the line twice so that both of you can ride.

Also, about a year ago I read some advice on this board about riding RnRC. I don't like "free-fall," and this was my main concern (there is none on this ride). Several DISers said that all you have to do is survive that initial acceleration. Then, relax, lean back into the harness and enjoy. I did and I did. Love the ride. My DS(then 7) loves it. It's smooth and in the dark so you don't see what's coming. I wasn't even certain when the inversions happened, except that I could feel the bags at my feet creeping up my leg.

Hate coasters - they scare the daylights out of me.

RnR? -LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!! I think I relax because it is in the dark.

I've been on big roller coasters and love RnR. It's an awsome ride!
