Okay guys, I need some help. My teenager wants to go back to Pop and is dissapointed we are staying at POR. Help me get her excited about it. She is a swimmer so pics of pools might be helpful. The pics on allears didnt seem to help. She said we are going to disney and staying in a cabin! Of course we arent but thats what AB reminded her of. She is also bummed because there is no frozen coke machine and no disney theming. How is the jogging trail? She really enjoys running with me so that might be something else to look forward to. Also, if there are any teens out there who love POR, make sure and share your point of view.

This is the teen who wants to know about the mugs, isn't it? :)

I don't know, I couldn't stand POP and didn't like POR either, but its way nicer than POP! We stayed in the mansions which I liked a lot more than AB. The rooms are a little bigger and the resort is huge, lots of trails and small pools, didnt care for the big pool. Tell her she is not going to notice because she will be having a good time at the parks!

Another big plus of POR is the boat that goes to DTD. What teen girl doesn't love shopping?;)

We've stayed at both POP and POR; really enjoyed both but we all liked Por better. Bigger rooms, prettier grounds. There's a (quite long) path that goes all the way around the resort, connecting all the different buildings. It's fun to walk (or run) on because the scenery is beautiful.

The Por pools were fun! Your daughter may prefer one of the quiet pools to avoid all the crowding. We swam at the quiet pool by building 18 twice, and both times hardly anyone was in them....I mean, like only 3-4 people. The main pool was much more crowded, but it's cute, and has a waterslide (a very little one--your teen will probably not be very impressed with it).

They also have the water mice and bikes you can rent at Por, if that's something that would interest her.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: I thought the same thing.

OP, I'm sorry but I can't back you up, I prefer POP over POR in a heartbeat.

I'm looking forward to your next thread... :goodvibes

Enjoy your planning :goodvibes

I've never stayed in the values but I have stayed at 3 of 4 mods and POR may not be "Disneyfied" with giant icons and bright colors, but it is far from a "log cabin" the exteriors are well themed for the "Old South" look and the rooms are very comfortable.

The pool was our DD13's favorite part of the resort! Good slide, big swim area and cool secluded lounging areas. The pool bar is convenient with non-alcoholic frozen drinks and other snacks.

The boat to DTD was very relaxing, but make sure you know the schedule:confused3 ! The bus service leaves a bit to be desired. You're picked up last (POFQ 1st) and dropped off last:sad2: .

I say try it, you may just surprise yourself and like it!

PS: One more thing DD13 liked... the "cute guys" around the pool! Dad was not amused:scared: !!

My DD's 12 & 15 Love POR!:lovestruc
the grounds are really nice and AB is not rustic cabins. Lots of great vegitation and animals running around if she is a runner, the sidewalk through the resort is great and I bet an early morning run will produce some great views. The pool is very nice and the dock area is nice especially the ride to DTD. The food court is good and the restaraunt and the bar area where Bob the piano player are, are also good. Go see Bob he's loads of fun.

Enjoy, we are heading back for the 2nd time to POR in June.

Jogging at Riverside? You have got to be kidding me. Just jogging down the Port Orleans should be enough. Along the canal. Come on!

Don't mean to offend you or your daughter but she is a teenager. Yes, she liked Pop Century. But, she's going to be an adult soon. She should realize that she needs to expand her experiences and try new things. And she's not always going to get her own way. She should be willing to compromise. She's never been to Riverside but she's already saying she won't like it. Well, she won't because she's already convinced herself she won't. You might as well give up now because nothing you can say will ever change her mind.

sl_underwood,

You keep trying, you know the female teenager is a dangerous beast :scared1: I have a couple of my own, one is picking it up and becoming better trained and the other is just having to start her training :scared1: but everyone tells me they all eventually take to the training and become family members again.:grouphug: I remember when mine was doing the deluxe snob attitude :snooty: when we weren't going to stay at the AKL again or some other deluxe and we were going to have to stay in that moderate place. Well she loved POR and is jealous that we are staying there and she has to stay with the team in a private house with their own pool. She wants POR. It's such a nice place she'll love it as soon as she walks in the door. Just keep the whip and chair handy for those drama queen moments :duck:

She is doing a bit better this afternoon. She is warming up to the resort. She really is a good teen (as far as teens go) she follows the rules, does her school work without fail, cleans up after herself, but she has alot of freak out moments, alot of which is associated with her OCD and anxiety issues. She also has her PMS moments. I think today was a combination of both. I just want her to love our trip as much as she did the last one.
Thanks to all of you who offered advice and support (and a good laugh)

I think thats the key to raising teens, you gotta laugh ALOT!

My older teenagers loved the values when they were small but once they experienced the moderates they did not want to go back the values. I would suggest the Manisons my kids did not like the looks of the bayous either I think the landscaping is too over grown. There is a quite pool in between each pair of manisons which my teens prefered and if you stay in the Manisons its not far to the french quarters, which gives you an extra food court to try and main pool.

You can still take your mug to the pop and get slush thats what we did.

I have one of those too and AMEN sista:lovestruc

My daughter is 8 (so a bit younger than yours) and loves POR. It's not quite so "in your face" as the Values tend to be with their big icon buildings, but it has more of a subtle charm and fabulous themeing. There are no less than 6 pools to try at POR, plus another at French Quarter which you are allowed to use too. The main theme pools at both resorts are great, with a decent slide at each, plus waterfall sprays, etc. Both resorts have arcades if she's into that, plus the shop of course!

For jogging, there's a one mile trail you can follow around POR, or a 1.7 mile run alongside the banks of the Sassagoula River between POR and POFQ. The ferry boat ride to Downtown Disney is great fun too, or you can hire your own boats, cycles, surrey bikes, etc if that appeals.

Sorry about the blatant plug, but my website (portorleans.org, click on banner in sig) has a ton of pictures of all aspects of the resort, and a route of the Jogging Trail in the Maps section.

I think once shes there she will like it. Especially being able to run from Riverside to French Quarter around the lake. Taking the boat to DTD and just enjoying the main pool and quiet pools. The food court is also the best on Disney property in my opinion! Heres a link to a thread I've started with pics of POR:

I had booked POR and my kids talked me into going back to Pop instead. POR was just huge and we always seem to get put so far away from the food court that its an excursion to get there. Besides that my 16yo DS is a rubiks cube kid (he can solve it blind-folded) so they want to make some youtube videos that have something to do with the giant cubes. Anyway....good luck :thumbsup2

my daughter would disagree. she observed just the opposite the last time we were there.

POR was good to us in the sense that you can rent a boat and make your way to the lake at Downtown Disney. Even my 10 year old brother enjoyed that. The pools are very relaxing and big, plus when we were there we had them mostly to ourselves. Overall a good place to stay!
