OK, I may have finally lost it . . . too much planning:crazy:

I have 10-day Non expiry water hopper passes that I purchased and partially used on my May 2007 trip.

It just dawned on me that I can upgrade these to PAP for less than what I paid for the original tickets . . .

10-day non-expiry passes (3A & 1Ch)= 1877.65
PAP (3A & 1CH) with DVC discount = 1793.46

I realize the start date would go back to May 2007.

Am I correct in my thinking? I must be missing something:goodvibes
Please help!

They would only give you credit for the unused days - so the value of the tradein would decrease $187.77 for each day used on the previous trip. Your PAP's should be dated on the date you purcse, not back to May. (at least that's my understanding! :))

I don't know about the credit, but annual passes expire one year after FIRST USE of the original ticket, so if the non-exp tickets were purchased in May 2007 and you upgrade them, the passes will expire in May 2008. That would be so cool if they actually paid you to upgrade!

I don't think MYW passes, even non-expiring passes, can be upgraded more than 14 days after first use. Even if they could, MYW passes are heavily front loaded (Day 1 cost more than Day 2, etc) so after only a few days of use, the tickets have little value if they did let you upgrade.

You are probably right about the 14-day upgrade window. I forgot about that. However, when you do upgrade, you just pay the difference between the value of your existing ticket and the value of what you are upgrading to.

For example, in Feb. I went to WDW with a 5-day hopper ticket with water parks & more options (that were a free upgrade). On my last day, I decided to upgrade to an AP. I paid the difference between a 5-day ph wp&m ticket and an AP. The CM first brought the ticket up to current value in the system, basically he did an "invisible" transaction which told the computer that even though I paid less for the ticket, it was worth the regular amount. Since I didn't use any of the wp&m options, I upgraded to a regular AP, not a PAP. So I paid the difference between an AP and the ticket I was holding in my hand, even though I already used up all the 5 days. It was a great deal!!

In my research, this is what I found . . .

From allears.net:
"I have heard that I can upgrade my MYW ticket to an AP or PAP and get full credit for the original purchase price even after I have used a few days admission. Is this true?

Yes it is. If you decide that you want to upgrade it to an AP/PAP, you will get full credit for the price of the ticket towards the AP/PAP. Expiring MYW tickets must be upgraded within 14 days of first use. MYW tickets with the no expiration option on them can me upgraded at any time. In all cases, the AP/PAP will be backdated to the date the hopper pass was first used. Tickets purchased prior to MYW tickets can still be upgraded but must be completely unused to do so. But beware: If you get a MYW ticket with the Water Park Fun & More option and use one of the WPF&M admissions before doing this, you will only be allowed to upgrade to a PAP."

It sounds like I can actually do this. Now, if they will let me apply the DVC discount is another story. Disney would actually owe me money!!!

Well, I think the value would be the fact that they do not expire as opposed to the PAP which will expire. The value of either option depends on travel habits for the year.

If you used a few days on you MYW tickets in May 2007, you are well past your 14 day upgrade window.

I have the non-expiry tickets, so according to the info I quoted, I should be able to upgrade to PAP.

We had thought about doing the same thing with our partially used 10-day no-expires when we first bought DVC several months ago. From the research I did, I came to the same conclusion you did, but I think I also saw somewhere that they won't give you money back. (This is only an issue with the DVC discount, because any other "better" ticket is more expensive.) We ended up deciding not to switch our tickets, but I'd be curious to hear if it actually works for you! This is one of those things where if one CM tells you you can't, I'd check with another before giving up. Good luck!!
