Let me start out by saying that this was the first use of DVC points outside of WDW. It was also DH and my first, mini vacation alone(no kids) since 2001! We decided to drive to NYC from the lower Hudson Valley this past Sunday for our Valentine's Day weekend. We arrived at around 11:30 and had the valet park our car (It's now $45.00 plus tip) We were happy to experience the luxury of the Plaza. Yes, it is an older hotel, but the opulence as you walk into the lobby is unparalled! There is so much gold ornamentation everywhere, that it made me feel rich! Check in took only about 10 minutes and we were in their computer with the room already "paid for" thanks to MS! The room had two double beds and the color of the scheme of the room was a very pale green. We had time before the curtain going up for our show "The Producers". We decided to walk to the theatre district. It was a very cold, windy day in NYC.

The show let in only a half hour before the curtain. We had seats dead center, orchestra. The show was incredible and the stars, Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane were hysterical! After the show, we ate at "Shula's" around the corner in the Westin Hotel. Boy did we spend $$$$$$$$$!!!! We decided to splurge on dinner and really had "Fred Flintstone" size beef!

Later we returned to the Plaza to find the bedcovers turned down in our room and a huge plate of fresh fruit, china, silverware and 3 bottles of spring water waiting for us! DH still had to have his "dessert" so we went to the Oyster Bar in the Plaza for a nightcap and his dessert of oysters on the half shell. By the end of the evening, we were both stuffed!

The next morning, we took the advice from you folks on this board, and went in search of a "reasonably priced" breakfast. If we had used room service, the meal would have cost us a minimum of $25.00 for one! We just went down the street to a local place and had a perfectly delicious cup of coffee and muffin for about $5.00 for both of us.

The overall rating of the Plaza was #1! We will stay again, thanks to the flexibility of DVC! As long as you keep in mind that the Plaza is an older hotel and a NYC landmark, the prestige of staying there was a plus. I know that when I got to work this morning and told of staying at the Plaza, everyone was impressed. Even DH,who has never been overly thrilled with our DVC purchase, admitted that this was really a wonderful experience. He has just begun to realize the flexibilty of DVC. We might make our trips to NYC and annual event!:love2:

:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc Thanks for sharing and I'm so happy to hear it all worked out so well. What a fabulous Valentine's Weekend....you were so smart to grab those Producer tickets and for such a great weekend, too. (Although I bet you were frozen walking around.) Thanks for "reporting back", even if it makes me more jealous than when I first heard you had snagged tickets. ;)

Thank you for your trip report. DH and I plan on going to the Plaza in 2006. Now I don't know how I will wait so long.

The Plaza and a play are the perfect combination. We did this last year when we saw Hairspray.

Our room had a king bed and a beautiful marble fireplace. It's worth the points just to say "I stayed at the Plaza."

BTW, they will hold your luggage on checkout day. We decided to see another play before heading home. When it was over, we made a quick dash back to the Plaza, retrieved our bag and took a cab to Grand Central for the train trip home.

Wow, it sounds wonderful, thank you for posting.
