Playing Walmart's greedy games!

Mine doesn’t have tap to pay. My Kroger’s no longer function. I really don’t care. Seems like you are overly obsessed with Wal-Mart.

Well ours had the spot for it, and are taping over those now. I have used my Walmart app to pay before.
Look – not to be overly snarky, but why complain about them taping over the tap to pay? Why not just ask them? You say you’re in there a couple times a week if you genuinely want to know why it was taped over ask somebody a customer service? Ask a manager? Surely you realize no one here has the answer most likely.

I might just ask. I was in and out today pretty quick and noticed it. I never used tap and pay, but have used Walmart pay before. Next time I am in there, I will inquire.

This has nothing to do with online shopping! Maybe you need to put on some glasses. Do you like getting ripped off by companies now days? Must do.
Not reading the terms of a company you shop at isn't getting ripped off. Not understanding basic e-commerce pricing versus in-store pricing isn't getting ripped off. It's just being ignorant of today's market...add it to the list I guess.

If Walmart wants to sell an ugly sweater online for $7 and in-store for $13 it can make sense in many cases...from both a shipping or accounting cost structure. But honestly I don't think you would truly grasp the reasons companies do this so I'll let someone else try and teach high school economics.

Neither does ours.

They are probably taping over them so people stop wasting time trying to use them. There is another store and a gas station in our town that have taped over the tap-to-pay area because people would stand there for 5 minutes trying to tap their card even though the screen told them to either insert the chip or swipe the card. My daughter worked at Walmart over the summer and her store manager told her that Walmart will never have tap to pay. They want people to use their app instead. So they force people to swipe or insert the chip if they want to use credit without using the app hoping they will eventually find those options too time consuming and start using the app. They want to be able to track people's purchasing and return habits through the app.

Maybe so. I always just swiped my card or used Walmart Pay.

Well why did the app go back and forth with the price when it detected when you were in store or not in the store? I guess so, cause it can vary, or be deceptive.

And isn't a roll back when they lower the price?

Look, I will just leave this here because there are at least two million threads on Reddit about Walmart doing deceptive pricing schemes and such. It's not just a coincidence. Here are just a few to put out there. Unfortunately I think it will only get worse in the future with them and all the retailers out there with dynamic pricing and such.

You usually get pushback because of what you're saying, how you go about it, etc. You will often complain about something only to patronize heavily the company you're complaining about (Walmart now, Disney for sure, and I'm sure plenty of other companies) which people in general just don't take positively with, it works the first few times and then people get tired of seeing someone complain only to keep going back to the place they don't like. We all complain to a degree but we often can name more positive things too or happier encounters too. And unless you're having like a private chat with people on the DIS most are going to respond to your threads as if you're really upset and they don't know why you either don't understand it's not isolated to X company or why you're continuing to go back to the company. That's in addition to you frequently calling companies greedy or the like.

Some of the issues you're complaining about here are things I've encountered in a wide amount of retail locations as just a more norm of the industry. They adjust ways of doing stuff over the years but have often had pricing situations. Normal grocery stores have this happen too. Hy-Vee years ago used to have a policy where if the price didn't match the sign or if the sign and price rang up the same but the exact item was featured in their add they would give you the item for free, that has long since gone away.

Walmart I believe last year started removing their price tag on items that have an attached physical tag (the perforated portion) of their items which does allow them to more easily change the pricing via their signs and to reduce pricing situations with the app by making it not as visible what the item's price was. But I've had that at other locations especially when it's clear it was an item that was there and they got a new shipment in with the updated pricing. Kohl's has had electronic signing for many years that can change on a dime.

On tap to pay I'm not sure if you're asking about Google or Apple wallet, Samsung Pay or if you're talking about the tap to pay symbol on your credit or debit card. I'm sure you understand how each retailer can enable different functions through their own POS system as well as machine used. For Walmart they have never enabled Google or Apple or Samsung wallet as well as tap to pay via the card itself accepting it which is where you just tap your credit or debit card onto the machine that has an applicable symbol. The function is not turned on in their POS system. So when you're seeing employees cover this up it's likely like another person said to reduce confusion/attempts to do so.

I found at least your photo you used for the rollback thing and it's this reddit post and the explanation multiple people said is it's because of how their system accepts labels for items specific to rollback (which is considered a price adjustment but not a clearance situation). "The shelf labels (printed along the other labels on a sheet for the mod team) were meant to be replaced with rollbacks by the mod team but they weren’t. That’s why there’s a little r on the label" "The "R" on the bottom of the regular label means rollback. If a mod is reprinted the normal label is printed. Then they place the rollback label over it." "If you try to print a rollback UOM (what it's named when selecting label to print) it will print text saying it's an invalid selection. Only a product with a was price would print." "The labels print as the rollback price if the item is on rollback."

I found another one of your reddit links, the one for Walmart falsely advertising a much lower price and its reddit post for a funko pop. Multiple people pointed out it's because the person was looking for the item that was out of stock at Walmart (the physical locations) but during the shopping process it provided another option (which is extremely normal) for a 3rd party seller of which Walmart has nothing to do with. The photo the person posted as proof clear as day reflects it's from a 3rd party selling.

I'm not going to go through the 3 other examples but yeah...it's enough effort I've already done to reflect what you're saying isn't exactly what is going on.

People aren't defending Walmart themselves, they are just saying "meh it's not just Walmart" or "read the policy before you do X" in addition retail is retail and things don't work perfectly (like signs) because it requires people to do a lot of additional labor to go through and especially at Walmart where they have so many. I do agree if I felt as strongly as you often do I just wouldn't shop there frequently and would save it for rare occasions.
