Well ours had the spot for it, and are taping over those now. I have used my Walmart app to pay before.

Mine doesn’t have tap to pay. My Kroger’s no longer function. I really don’t care. Seems like you are overly obsessed with Wal-Mart.

Look – not to be overly snarky, but why complain about them taping over the tap to pay? Why not just ask them? You say you’re in there a couple times a week if you genuinely want to know why it was taped over ask somebody a customer service? Ask a manager? Surely you realize no one here has the answer most likely.

I might just ask. I was in and out today pretty quick and noticed it. I never used tap and pay, but have used Walmart pay before. Next time I am in there, I will inquire.

Not reading the terms of a company you shop at isn't getting ripped off. Not understanding basic e-commerce pricing versus in-store pricing isn't getting ripped off. It's just being ignorant of today's market...add it to the list I guess.

If Walmart wants to sell an ugly sweater online for $7 and in-store for $13 it can make sense in many cases...from both a shipping or accounting cost structure. But honestly I don't think you would truly grasp the reasons companies do this so I'll let someone else try and teach high school economics.

They are probably taping over them so people stop wasting time trying to use them. There is another store and a gas station in our town that have taped over the tap-to-pay area because people would stand there for 5 minutes trying to tap their card even though the screen told them to either insert the chip or swipe the card. My daughter worked at Walmart over the summer and her store manager told her that Walmart will never have tap to pay. They want people to use their app instead. So they force people to swipe or insert the chip if they want to use credit without using the app hoping they will eventually find those options too time consuming and start using the app. They want to be able to track people's purchasing and return habits through the app.
