What do you do for dinner meals? Do you plate each person's meal by the stove or put the food on platters on the table?

I usually plate the food by the stove except if we are having company then we put food either buffet style in the kitchen or platters on the table. It's just the 4 of us and helps with portion control and I can try and have leftovers too. My MIL puts each item on a platter or in a bowl.

I plate by the stove. The platters are a nice idea but aside from holidays or special ocassions I don't see the need to dirty extra dishware.

I plate at the stove. I am not interested in washing serving dishes. Although, if we happen to have biscuits with dinner, I'll just pop them out on a plate on the table.

Everything goes on the table to serve family style. We are a family of 5. Sometimes in the pots and pans, sometimes on platters. Roasts are carved onto platters, but veggies from the microwave are placed on the table in the ceramic dishes they are cooked in.

Both depending on the meal and my energy level!

Stove for us too. Family of 4. Not doing the extra dishes unless we have company - and then it's usually more of a buffet style. I'm glad to know we're not alone!

Pots and pans food was cooked in goes on the table.

This.
Unless we are having company, I don't need to put the food in a serving dish.
And I would never prepare every plate. We have 5 kids who have differing tastes, so there would be too much waste for the things they don't particularly like.

Everyone fixes their plate at the stove except anytime the entire family is here for a meal, then it is set up buffet style on the island.

I always plate at the stove unless we're having company or it's a holiday. If I put it out on the table every evening I think the teen boys especially would over eat.

Always in platters/serving dishes on the table.
My mom never plated it at the stove, and I never ate over anyone's house(even casual when I was a kid) who did that, so it never even occurred to me to not have everything on the table, in serving dishes, not pots and pans.

ETA: the only exception is if I made a casserole or something, I serve it in the dish it was baked in-on the table.

Usually at the stove for several reasons

Everyone is on a different time schedule since they are in college

The stove is closer to the microwave to reheat the food

If I put the food on the table I think everyone would tend to eat much more

For special occasions and holidays we put the food on the table

This! If company is over I'll try to platter it - but sonetimes it doesn't all fit in the table! For paties I put it out on the pots and/or platters on the kitchen island!

I plate in the kitchen to make sure we get the proper portions.

At first I thought this was a zombie thread b/c I remember posting on this exact topic a few years ago (with the same title none-the-less) :)

We're family style. Everything goes into serving bowls and onto the table. Very rarely do I dish out of the pots right from the stove.

We do buffet style on the kitchen island every night (in whatever pot or pan it was cooked in - I don't like extra dishes).
