Can you play video games on them? I thought people said not to use them for video games because it can burn the picture into the TV. Anyone know?!?

We let our son play his 360 on it. We just tell him not to pause the games. Same with the tivo don't pause it and go to the store. We were told that the burn in problem isnt as bad as it once was. Also I know this isnt the tv I am going to have for the rest of my life so I try not to worry. We got a state of the art bigscreen just a few years back and we already replaced that. Technology for us moves so fast its hard to keep up.

Yes Plasma TV's can experience burn in and the screen only has a life of so many hours. Therefore, if your kids are big time video gamers, like I am, they will be wasting valuable viewing life on your Plasma by playing video games.

These are the reasons I went with a LCD.

I have been researching big screen tvs for years. The various technologies all seem to have pros and cons. The thing that makes me think I don't want plasma is the burn-in issue, and that there is a limited lifespan. I understand that improvements have been made with the burn-in, but I would still be obsessing over it and always wondering if I have done something to mess it up. The lifespan is also probably an irrational concern as technology is moving so quickly, odds are that there will be something new and better by the time the plasma screen goes bye bye. As for video games, you wouldn't have any burn-in concerns with LCD or DLP. :)

Thanks for the info, we have a beautiful 42 inch plasma TV that I surprised my hubby with for our anniversary back in Sept. He had mentioned getting the PS3 and allowing our son to use it on the big TV, I however said HECK NO! So, I have no desire for video game play to take place on this TV, you guys just helped confirm that I was right. Thanks!

all i know is that plasma is on of the solid liqued and gas but they could not figure out which on so it is a veary rare form found when rockets take off but it makes a great picture on the tv but ill say yes you can play video games on it but just dont pause

I wanted a big screen this year and looked around a lot. We finally decided on DLP over LCD (too expensive) and plasma (too prone to short life-span). As others have mentioned, no burn-in on DLP, so video games are fine.

my tv guy said not to pause for more than 10 minutes......it could burn after this. needless to say we do not pause tivo, never really did anyway.....

The new generation plasma TV's don't have many problems with burn in anymore unless it's left on the screen for more than 30 minutes. As far as life span go's, all TV's losse picture quality over time. The life span of a new generation (9th generation) plasma is 60,000 hours and the average American household watches TV for 7 hours a day. That would mean your plasma would last 23 years. I don't know about anyone else but I've never had any TV longer than about 10 years. I went with the Panasonic 50" plasma, it was rated #1 by consumer reports.

The problem with plasma's and video games is not limited to using the pause button. Any game where there is a portion of the game screen that rarely changes will cause the same problem.
