Planning with kids in School

Wow! I'm jealous! Our school district gives us 3 personal leave days. One is totally covered and the other 2 we have to pay the sub. How do you get lucky to get the days off? I wish I was in your school district!! :)

We're not supposed to take off for that long, but I don't really care.
Every year, I just tell the school secretary (whom I'm friendly with) the dates that I need off & that I'm going....no matter what.
The first 2 years I did that, I had no problem.
Last year, I had a doctor's note :rolleyes1 .
This trip coming up in May...we'll see what happens.

My county has rotten vacations.
The only time during the whole school year that teacher's get a full week off is Christmas. We don't have a fall or winter break, & Easter we only get Thur, Fri, & Monday off.
So if we want to go away for a week (and not over the summer), then we have to make our own vacation!

**We (teachers) don't have to pay our subs...that's ridiculous!

Things are changing in our school district next school year.

We will be off Presidents' Week (Feb.) for Winter Break,
the Friday before and the Monday after Easter,
and the Week of April 14th for Spring Break. :cool1:

Last year, we broke an almost 25+ year tradition of having break around Easter, it was about 2 weeks earlier. It had something to do with the state tests and when they did the schedule they based it on the previous years tests dates. You should have heard the uproar! So back to around Easter again, since the state has decided to move testing to the end of April-first of May timeframe(then no Easter conflicts).

I'm totally understanding your situation! For Christmas Break '07, DH and I had booked a stay at SSR for Dec. 16-20, since that's the timeframe we've had it the past several years, but a couple of weeks ago we got our upcoming calendar and we don't START break until Dec. 20th. I was so ticked, because now we have to cancel!!:furious: I really enjoy teaching, but sometimes I'm jealous of my DH's job where he can take his vacation days any time he wants!

We try to go as soon as school lets out. DDs attend parochial school, so we tend to get out a little earlier than public schools in our area. The public school system allows only 7 unexcused absences allowed per year, for all grades, including Kindergarten. As the kids get older and non school sports tournements(including those at Disney) become more regular, alot of students are finding they are getting TOO close to 7 days.

We have been to Disney at all seasons, October being the favorite- nice weather and fewer crowds. Summer is hot, but still enjoyable. Make sure to visit all the misting stations located at the parks. We also try to go back to the hotel and rest or play in the pool.

Wow!
But get this....Christmas this year will be Tuesday Dec. 25th....
our first day of vacation is that Saturday Dec. 22nd. :confused3

We have a full week of school the week before Christmas!!

**But, we're pulling them out 3 days early so that we can go enjoy our 1st Christmas in WDW!!!
