Hi all. Me and my wife are planning our first trip ever to Walt Disney World with our two daughters.

We just bought a Jayco Jayflight 27BH travel trailer that we'd like to pull down from Oklahoma and use for our stay in FW. I've never done this before, so I was curious if anyone had any tips for saving money or package deals for camping with a travel trailer at FW?

What kind of price can I expect to pay for a ~6 night stay, etc.? I can't seem to find a package deal that includes bringing your RV with you for some reason.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Go on Disney's website. When they ask witch resort, click on Fort wilderness cabins and campground. After that they will have three site choices for your camper. Full hookup, partial hookup or perfered hookup. Then you can choose your tickets and if you want, the dinning plan. I really do recomend the dinning. It's so worth it. You can just keep playing around with the website until you find the package you want. Good Luck and Have fun.

You'll learn alot just asking questions here. I have been reading the posts here for six years now and had two long and succusfull trips to Fort Wilderness, thanks to ever one on this site. :grouphug:

We have made 20 trips to WDW from MI since 93. The last 3 years we have been bringing our 27ft Fleetwood Pioneer bunkhouse. We have stayed in almost every type of accomodation at WDW, values, moderates, DVC, FW cabins. We never in all of those trips purchased a "package". For us it was cheaper and easier to pay for the things we used "alacarte"
We dont go to the parks every day, this allows for lazy time to lay around the pool and do nothing (which is a rarity for me)

I dont know that I would buy a package that included food while camping. Part of the cost savings for camping (if there is any) is being able to bring your own food. We do eat out often while at WDW but with two hungry teen age boys its a whole lot cheaper to feed them out of the fridge.
Unless we have an early morning we usually make a big sit down breakfast when we camp. Its nice to sit around and spend time chatting and drinking coffee.

If your kids are still young enough you can get a good deal on a site by visiting at off peak times.

A lot depends on your family and what their interest are.

happy planning

First off, WELCOME!

As mentioned above, go to site and check package deals online. If you have a travel agent you could have that person check into reservations and package deals and also DISCOUNTS. If you have AAA and there is a AAA discount for a camp site you might not be able to get it if you book online.

Eating at your site is usually the least expensive way to feed the family but it is also nice to treat yourselves to a special meal out.

Read through all the different forums here on the DIS and tank up on the info. Keep on asking questions because these boards are full of helpful and fanatical Disney people.

By fanatical I mean someone like my DW and myself. DW flew to Texas yesterday to bring back our 4yoDGS and 6yoDGS so we could surprise them wiith a few days at FW and WDW. They are boarding a plane as I type this and they still are not aware that they are going to Disney. We will wake them at 4:30AM tomorrow and get them into the RV by telling them we have to head out that early in the RV because we have so much stuff to bring to our DD and her family who live a little south of WDW. We are going to celebrate all 4 of our grandsons birthday while there.

You will have a blast at FW and WDW.

I'll be watching this thread for replies too. We are not new to WDW, but this June will be the first time we will be bringing a trailer and camping at Ft. Wilderness as well. We are Okies too!

Congratulations! I think camping is the best way to do Disney!

We do all our cooking at our site and save a lot of money!

I have checked the rates through Disney packages and I found that I saved a lot of money just booking a site and buying tickets through AAA.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. Keep them coming!! :)

I am a member of AAA, so I will call them to see what they have to offer...

I'm not looking forward to the fuel bill, hopefully gas comes down some this summer. I'm estimating I'll need almost $900 in gas alone, but hey... I guess that's the price one pays. We've got an 05 Dodge Daytona Ram 1500 truck with a HEMI engine, so it will get better than avg. highway mileage.

I also would say cook at your camper. What time of year are you looking at? The rates are much higher at peek/Holiday times. We love Sept/Oct. Rates are really good and the crowds are much lighter.

 I feel your pain. We are driving from WI in May and we have a '04 Duramax Diesel and we are budgeting $1000 for fuel.

When we travel in our RV I always use this to route my trip. It keeps us off the roads we should not be on like steep inclines or low underpasses.

I will compute your fuel if you put in your mileage.

I like it because it counts your time both ways, what you have gone and what you have left, mileage and time.

We usually don't take quite as long as it says but it allows the extra time for you to tow your RV.

I am sorry, it won't let me post the url, it is

Cobra-Master,

We are booked at a preferred site the first week in December for 7 nights. It is myself, DH, and 4 kids 9 and under.
I booked through AAA.
We bought the dining package and 1 day base tickets for the 6 of us.
The total w/ tax and no insurance is $1551.92. It is a 20% discount off the price of our campsite only....but better than nothing! ha!

I bought 10day/ magic plus, non-expiring tickets through undercovertourist. We will use those for our non/package trip the first week of Sept. Probably use one park day and one water park day. Then we will use the rest of the days for our package trip the first week of Dec. Whatever days we have left over, We will use on a future trip.

You have to buy tickets if you get the dining package but it does not matter what the length is. If you do not use them, you can apply the "value" toward tickets later. That is what we are planning on doing. We will not use our 1 day tickets. That is how I am working the system! I might make the 1 day tickets into 10 day tickets in the future.

I (being the mother and the 360 days a year cook) love the dining!! It really makes a vacation! We really stretched it out last time using some for breakfast, some the first day we are there, some the last day, etc..

The week we go in Sept. we will not be on a dining pkg and we will cook at our RV.

Does this all make sense? Hope so! Just thought I would throw out our situation!

Good luck!
