We have been to WDW with DD#1 and #2 four times but this is the first trip with our 15month old DD. I have taken DD#2 as a baby and as a preschooler but never at this age.

Any advice on essentials to take with a young toddler, or things to know about. I am slightly dreading the flight - not quite sure how to keep her entertained and happy.

Looking for lots of help from you kind people!

Emma

My dd was 18 months last trip and here are a few suggestions:
For the plane, I bought sugar free suckers for her so the pressure wouldn't get to her ears and it occupied her for a few minutes. Other things I brought were Colorforms (pages with static stickers), colored pipe cleaners (it is amazing how this occupies them and then you just throw them away when you get off the plane), coloring books, dvd player, teddy grahams and I bought milk inside the terminals to put in her sippy cup.

At disney, we headed to the parks early. She was entertained by the crowds and enjoyed most of what her age is allowed to do. She loved the playground areas in the parks. We bought some spray fans and she loved playing with it and it kept her cool. She slept most days in her stroller without afternoon breaks.

We incorporated character meals and she did great. At first she was a little scared but after the first day she warmed up.

I hope this helps you out.

We took our 15 month old twins last month. One of the mistakes we made was forgetting we wouldn't have access to our luggage right away (Magical Express) and didn't pack enough diapers. We had to buy some when we got to our resort. Also we went through way more diapers than we usually do because we were always giving then stuff to drink to make sure they stayed hydrated. Th did very well with everyhing else though. The baby care centers are great! We took then when they turned one and they loved the characters. This time - it took awhile for them to warm up to them, but they eventually did. As far as the plane, they did sleep some of the time. We brought lots of snacks, some new books, some of the Color Wonder markers and paper. We flew Jet Blue, so we also had the tv's for them to watch. It was a lot of work, but a lot of fun too. Good luck!

My best piece of advice I can offer is follow the little one's schedule the best you can. We bought an AP our first trip with dd (13 months) because we were going to get multiple trips out of it....but the best part was if she was cranky we left - but we didn't feel like we were losing money.

Pack extra clothes in the diaper bag so you can change them after they get wet in a fountain. Oh yeah, ziplock bags to put the wet clothes in, too! When DS was 15 months old, the fountains were his favorite thing. Don't forget little snacks like goldfish or cheerios and lots and lots of sunscreen or a hat to cover little heads and faces. Water-friendly shoes like crocs or sandals are a great choice for little ones, too, since they can wear them into the fountains and they dry quickly! I used our stroller with a Kiddopatomus ray shade to make the stroller nice and dark and cool for naps. DS napped like a champ in his stroller at that age and we never had to go back to the hotel for a nap!

We came back to the hotel every afternoon around his regular nap time. It was a much needed rest for DH and I too. Then we usually had a swim, got changed and went back for dinner. Then we would stay in the park late and DS usually fel asleep in the stroller.

My best advice is to just take it easy. We worked on his schedule a lot but it was very relaxing not stressful.
