Hi everyone. DH and I are planning a trip to HH (staying DVC) for this summer. We are driving down from NY and I have a few questions.....

1.Where should we shop for groceries before checking into the resort?

2. Also are there any liquor stores nearby (we would love to make our own margaritas to save $$$:rotfl:).

3. Can anyone recommend places to eat nearby since I know the offerings are slim? Also how packed do the BBQ areas get?

4. Can anyone recommend places to sightsee and also courses that offer 9 hole (I am a beginner and DH is just happy I am willing to play lol!)

5. Does anyone have a trip report to share?

Thank you for any help!:goodvibes

We love Disney's HHI resort. We will be going in July and we can't wait. It is so relaxing. We usually pick up groceries at the Piggly Wiggly in the shopping center just before you get to Shelter Cove. There is also an ABC store in the same shopping center.

I am not sure about the 9-hole golf, because my husband and son have just taken up golf so we will be checking this out this trip also.

Sight seeing- we haven't done much of that because we are there to relax. We have gone over to the light house and toured that. We also love to go next door to the marina and look at the boats/yachts. We want to take a dolphin boat ride this year.

Resaturants that we frequent are Guiseppies for pizza, The Sea Shack for the best tasting, fresh grilled seafood and Sticky Fingers for ribs.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

Hi! Here is a link you will probably find helpful- it's all about HHIR

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2036513

We shopped at the Piggly Wiggly right outside the resort- they sold wine and beer as well, not sure about hard liquor. I know there is another supermarket people go to, but we never made it past this one! We played 9 holes at Palmetto Dunes, it was right across the street so very close by. But pricier than some others that were further away. I wrote a tr- there's a link in my sig. We really loved HHI, hope you will, too.:goodvibes

In addition to the Piggly Wiggly, we also go to the Publix which is down the road towards Sea Pines. As far as restaurants, we like San Miguels and Kingfisher which is right across the bridge at Shelter Cove and also the Salty Dog which is at South Beach Marina. It is usually pretty easy to get access to one of the BBQ grills. I don't have a trip report, but if you go to my photo link below, you will find pictures from our trip last June.

Info for golf: most courses on the island offer 9 hole rates around mid afternoon-call the pro shop direct.

Hilton Head Island "Heaven on Earth".

Enjoy your stay. We're going the week of 4-12. sun golf food ice cream "priceless".

We went in September-you will love Hilton Head! We got some groceries at the Harris Teeter-it was about a 10 minute drive-they also sell liquor-great prices on wine. We liked the Oyster Factory-sat outside, which was nice. Also for casual dining, a place called The Grumpy Grouper had good seafood. The nice people at the resort will recommend places they like-the BBQ areas were not busy when we were there, but it was after Labor Day. Read Podsnel's wonderful TR, she has some beautiful pictures of the resort!

Wow thank you so much everyone! You have all been so helpful.

Podsnel- thanks for the link to the TR I am going to read it right now!

Wolfpackfan-thank you for the links to your pics. The whole reaort looks gorgeous...just what I need after a trip to the world:rotfl:

Just a couple doors down from Piggly Wiggly is a liquor store. DH usually walks over there to buy his hard liquor while I'm shopping in "The Pig" and he meets me back in the store before I'm done. For 9 hole golf, I know Shipyard has 3-9 holes. To play 18, you play 2 of their 9 hole courses. Another resturant recommendation is the British OPen Pub in Wexford Village shopping center.

I'm glad you asked because we're checking in on Sunday - so this was helpful. I had read about the Pig, but only just now saw there is a Publix there - which is awesome because I just got some Publix cpns from a coworker today so I can use them! Woo-hoo!

I'll be doing a live-from report. We got a Hilton Head book in the mail today from their Visitor's Bureau that has all kinds of info in it about restaurants, etc. I thought it was good timing since we're leaving this weekend!

I'm glad to read of pizza suggestions - we always like to try a local pizza place wherever we go.

Have fun...and I can not wait to read the report.

Great idea about the guide!
