Is anyone a member of Planet Fitness? I've been thinking about joining, primarly for cardio training (treadmill) and some weight training. I've used World Gym and really liked it there because it's not filled with burly weightlifters and muscleheads (no offense to either :flower3: ), so I wondered what PF is like. Our location is open 24 hrs 12 midnight M-F until 9pm and 7-7 weekends.

Their 19.99/month for 12 months (and no start up fee) plan includes a PF Black card ($39 annually), which entitles the member to:
Free reciprocal use of all Planet Fitness® Franchise Locations
Unlimited use of massage chairs
Unlimited Guest Privileges I inquired about the guest usage. You can bring the same guest everyday, but they can only use the workout equipment, not tanning or other priveleges, and must over 18 unless it is your child, and only at your home location. I would be able to take DD17 with me anytime she wanted to workout, without having to pay an additional fee.

Unlimited Tanning
and a few other perks

I don't belong but hope to in the Fall once the kids go back to school. Many of the ladies I went to Curves with quit there and went around the corner to PF when a new branch opened. From what I have heard from them they really like it! I am looking forward to starting there with some old familiar faces. After a while Curves wasn't doing it for me and my dr. said I really need more weight training as 50 keeps getting closer...:rolleyes1

Sure hope someone chimes in and tells us what it is like! :)

Jill

I'm interested too. I don't know of one near me, so if anyone else can offer info I'm curious too.

Planet Fitness is an awesome gym. But I guess I'm a little biased since my family owns a bunch of PF gyms:rolleyes1 . But it really is a great atomsphere, especially if you are just starting to work out. WHenever I go there it is a very relaxed setting, no pressure to look extrememly fit and everyone's real friendly. Try it out, you got nothing to lose!! Except weight that is;)

I belong to Planet Fitness, and I really like it. Very clean and well-maintained. I also like that there is no commitment, so if my job or situation changed I could cancel w/ 30 days notice.

It is a "no frills" place but I see people of all shapes and sizes and mine has a lot of equipment. I usually go at lunch since mine is about 5 min from work.

I joined in Jan '07 and have lost almost 60 lbs since then.

I pay $10/month but I don't have the black card...

:thanks: for the feedback. Good to hear they are well maintained.
And congratulations on the weightloss!!!!!:woohoo:

I was very glad to come across this post since there is a PF opening very close to home. Some of the questions I had have been answered and I will now feel comfortable going in to learn more. Thanks, Marie

My DH and I were members of Planet Fitness for about a year, since at the time they had the equipment we needed, and the price was right.

I had an injury during the 15k at Disney in May, so took some time off lifting - came back to PF a couple months later and found out they'd "refurbished" - removed the squat racks, added twice as many cardio machines, and made it really cramped. That on top of the employees who didn't seem to know what they were doing/didn't work out there, and how crowded it ALWAYS was, made us look for another gym.

We're at Lifestyle Family Fitness now and very happy - clean, open, lots of lifting equipment, knowledgeable employees, etc.

How does this compare to a NYSC/BSC/PSC/WSC? The whole tanning for "free" thing is enticing, as is the price. However, I do enjoy attending spin class, pilates class, yoga class. I also rely heavily on the individualized monitors attached to all the cardio equipment. Would I be getting all this at a PF?

I'm not familiar with the gyms you mentioned (I see that they're all in the NEish area). However, in my area PFs (Orlando), they don't have classes nor individual monitors; only 6-8 TVs mounted on the ceiling.

Ok that's all I need to hear to stay at NYSC! Thanks!
