Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

When modifying the ride times will I be able to do that for rides my husband books on his account? My plan is for him to book two days and I book two days. But I do all the planning so I’d be in charge of modifying. Will I need to go into his account to change them?

No you can modify. I modified ones my daughter made.

We had an easier time linking our party this time than in the past. We have a CM and sometimes their park reservation is separate from ours, no issues this time. We did have problems with having one time show up and then another time after we booked, this was a problem with Genie+ as well.

I had some issues when I was the non rider and I had to cancel. It was hard to find the cancel and not just modify.

The days leading up to a Walt Disney World vacation are always so exciting. For many, it’s a time when families and friends get the chance to reunite and talk about their must-dos while they’re here, including their favorite rides and experiences.
We enjoy hearing from guests about all the things they love, as well as how we can make their experience even better the next time. At Walt Disney World, guests have told us they would prefer to have the option to do more of their planning before their theme park day.
So, this summer we will make changes to our Disney Genie+ service and individual Lightning Lane entry, including new ways to plan ahead.
On July 24, Walt Disney World will introduce new, simpler names to provide more clarity for everyone. Disney Genie+ service will become Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while individual Lightning Lane will now be known as Lightning Lane Single Pass.
We will also be updating Lightning Lane passes to help you:
  • Make Lightning Lane plans before you’re here, for added confidence.
  • Choose your experiences and times prior to purchasing, so you know what you’re getting.
  • Book Lightning Lane passes for multiple vacation days, all in a single day.

Here’s how Lightning Lane passes will work beginning July 24.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass

When you purchase Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you may make up to 3 Lightning Lane selections in a theme park, in advance of your visit. You’ll also be able to choose available times as you make your selections.
On the day of your visit, once you use a selection, check the My Disney Experience app for availability to make an additional selection.

Lightning Lane Single Pass

Lightning Lane Single Pass will work much like it does today, where you can secure a time to ride one of our most highly demanded attractions, but you’ll now be able to make your purchase and plan in advance.

How to Plan Ahead

Guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel and other select hotels will be able to plan Lightning Lane passes up to 7 days in advance, for their entire stay (up to 14 days). All other guests can plan up to 3 days in advance.
These advance purchase windows will let guests secure some of their must-do rides and experiences after they’ve had some time to decide what dining reservations they want to book and any other plans they may need to consider.
Guests may purchase a Lightning Lane Multi Pass, a Lightning Lane Single Pass or both. The app will also be updated to make it quicker and easier to purchase and plan, with fewer steps and a new option to purchase Lightning Lane Single Pass and Lightning Lane Multi Pass in one transaction.
Lightning Lane passes will blend features from our current services and the previously offered FastPass+ service, giving guests the choice to plan ahead and removing the hassle of planning during their vacation.
To dive into even more details, visit our website for the latest information on how to purchase, select and use your Lightning Lane passes.
Disneyland Resort will also use the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single pass names beginning July 24. Based on the different ways we know guests visit Disneyland Resort, the way guests purchase, select and redeem Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland Resort will remain the same.
The complimentary features of Disney Genie service will continue to be available in the My Disney Experience and Disneyland apps. As you may have noticed, both apps have also gotten a series of upgrades over the last year to make features easier to use, including making dining reservations, mobile food ordering, and more.
We deeply value the trust families place in Disney to create lasting memories and that is why we are dedicated to making updates that improve and simplify their experience.
can you plan at midnight ?

RNR is tier 1. I am able to go into the app and select my rides and see things without purchasing. I have an AP, so maybe I am able to do things other's can't.

It opens 7 days ahead of your resort stay at 7am. Or 3 days ahead of your ticket/AP if off site.
thank you!

It is horrendous. We had a linking mishap and ended up with one group member separate from the rest - I didn’t worry too much about it, figuring I could slide things around (as I’d done with every other digital version of the system). Just kidding. The system will say there are times available, then when you click, say, “just kidding, it’s actually hours and hours later”. But my favorite aspect is that it clearly won’t offer all of the available times….

Example:
- Two members of party have Everest at 9:20; one has 9:30, other one has 11:50AM.
- Ofher FPs are Safari at 8:25 (two 9:20 Everests and the noon Everest)/8:35 (9:30 Everest) and Dinosaur at 11 (9:30) and 11:10 (other three party members)
- If I try to rebook the 9:20 it offers 9:30; if I try to move the 9:30, it offers me 9:35. So clearly there is availability.
- If I try to rebook the noon, it will only offer me things after noonish. This persists even if I cancel Dinosaur, even if I cancel Everest and attempt to book fresh, even if I change rides and then attempt to switch back to Everest.
- My only other FPs are at 8:25 and 11:10, so it’s not an overlap issue.
- Incidentally, the overlap doesn’t seem to be a hard and fast rule. The 8:35 Safari overlaps with the 9:30 Everest; the 11:50 Everest overlaps with the 11:10 Dinosaur. These overlaps are for two different users (eg the 8:35/9:30 is one person and the 11:10/11:50 is another).

Needless to say, I am SO frustrated. This is easily the worst version of the FP system - and I’ve used all of them extensively. And we PAID for this. It effectively added $150 to our ticket price, and we didn’t even book for every day!

It’s bad enough that it will be a LONG time before I head back to WDW. We are heavy users of FP (FP+, G+), and I would consider iit essential to our ability to tour effectively. This is the most expensive trip we’ve ever taken (due to price hikes, not extravagance - we actually stepped down our hotel a bit) and yet I’m left feeling that we’re going to struggle. To say I’m displeased is an understatement.
Could you not have called Disney and tell them there was a linking mishap and what the issue was? And for my knowledge (in case this happens to me), was the missing guest initially selected when you booked everyone else and somehow fell off the LLMP booking? Did it show there was an issue with the one guest on your list before you checked out? Sorry it was so frustrating and glad that Disney was able to make

It’s very frustrating when trying to modify times and the time the system initially offers isn’t actually available.
How many people in your group? I wonder if this is just bad IT programming, like maybe that is the earliest possible time but when you click it registers your group total and then shows you the earliest slot for your number of people?

Tomorrow is my 7 day booking window. Should I start with Day 7 and work backwards or Day 1 and work forwards?

I have read several things suggesting that, but I have also read on the flip-side not to do that because there will not be anything "good" for the first few days if you do.

This is why I hate this system. I had no problem with genie+ and had it down to a science. Now you pay for not getting a reservation.

But at least people don’t have to wake up early anymore /s

Could you provide more details on your morning plan and what you were trying to change for Haunted Mansion (HM)? Were you referencing the 8:30 AM HM on screenshot 1 or the 11 AM in the Modify selection on screenshot 2?

Did you have any ADRs for the morning time frame?

Dave

THIS! I have had time slots offered that haven’t changed for hours, but each time I try to modify to that offered time, it’s not available. It seems to depend on how much overlap you have. Although even that seems hit or miss. Sometimes the available time overlaps with my current selections and it will allow me to modify to that available time and other times it won’t…although generally it has not allowed that. I have had to cancel or modify other rides to much later times, just so the system will show me certain time slots that it wouldn’t have otherwise. Today for example, I was trying to modify a Pirates and Haunted LL. The system kept showing me times between 9 and 10 for both, but when I hit modify, it would only offer times after 11am. And I suspect this was because of overlapping times. I ended up modifying the Haunted LL to a much later time to see if the system would then let me see those times for Pirates, but I guess because I had a Tiana LL for the same time frame, it still wouldn’t offer anything before 11am. I then couldn’t modify my Haunted LL back to the 9am hour, even though I suspected it was still definitely available. I called Member Services and they were able to get my 9am LL back for Haunted, which confirms that there was in fact availability, it just wouldn’t let me book it. I wish the system would show you all available time slots whether they overlap or not.
