places you DON'T recommend with a peanut allergy

Chef TJ no longer works at Ohana. He's at one of the GF restaurants now. We ate at Ohana with our pn/tn kids 4 yrs. ago, before Chef TJ worked there. I don't remember the chef's name, but he was very nice. We requested the peanut sauce not be served to our table, which was not a problem. The kids ate mac&cheese and got gigantic bowls of plain vanilla ice cream for dessert. They were also able to try some of the sides.

Disney has developed an excellent system for handling food allergies. We haven't encountered any chefs who refuse to be helpful. Some are just more enthusiastic about it than others. I wouldn't get too set on a particular chef at a given restaurant. Disney seems to move them around a lot.

My wife and i went to Chef De France. it was not what we were hoping for. it was very crowded inside and the food was just ok. Also it is really not a place for younger children. when we were there all we heard were babies crying and young children screaming.

I recommend against Yak & Yeti.

We loved Crystal Palace.

DD has multiple food allergies. We were told that F&W foods were prepared in close quarters and cross contaimination was an issue. Luckily she was so little then that we got away without her wanting or needing to sample a bunch of dishes.

May I ask why? How was your experience?

Places we've eaten w/o a problem w/ DD who has peanut allergies (we also ask for no tree nuts b/c you just never know).
Teppan Edo
1900 Park Fare...since desserts were pretty much a no go, Chef TJ made her a special dessert, OMG, it was AWESOME!
Cape May Cafe Breakfast
Ohana Breakfast
Chef Mickey's Breakfast (went there twice, the first time the chef was awesome, brought DD items that were not on the buffet line from the kitchen, the second time the check was just ok).
Tusker House Breakfast (there really was a lot DD COULD have for breakfast there)
Coral Reef
Le Cellier (ate there 2 xs, 2nd time there was an item on DDs dish that she could not have which were the banana chips so we had to send it back the lady who was NOT our server but maybe a runner was a little nasty about it though which kinda ticked me off)
Whispering Canyon Cafe (LOVED the chef there)
Crystal Palace breakfast

and we will not return to:
Mama Melrose, it was the only place that the chef did not come out to speak with us and the server said "I think everything should be safe."

Id love to try Yak and Yeti, food looks so yum!
This is a great thread!

Places we ate with DS who has PN and TN allergy.

Teppan Edo great.
Rose and Crown fine.
1900 park fare: chef walked us around and there was alot to choose from.
chef mickeys: chef did the same but we just did not like the food.
beaches and cream
Yachtsman steakhouse: but the chef did not come out, waiter said everything is safe but they brought my son out the wrong steak....
Liberty tree tavern: good experience and have heard this is one of the best places for allergy.
Tutto Italia; everything was fine. but the selections was not that big for DS and no breads. so he was not to happy about this.
mexico cs and churros which he loved.

No Funnel cakes!!!! He was upset about this.
But i heard that the choc cake at most CS are fine.

Norway akerhaus: fine, was able to eat alot. only desserts were a concern.

This time we are trying:
le cellier
coral reef
raglan road
crystal palace and ohana breakfast and kouzzina bf
crt dinner
DS wanted teppan edo and rose and crown again.
and trying sanaa but alittle concerned after reading about some of the african based restaurants having so many peanut dishes.

cs; want to try earl of sandwich? is anyone familiar if this is safe?
probably cosmic rays, easy burger and fries for him, of course hurricaine hannahs a few times. He is happy with their burgers and fries. (i think it is the same burger from beaches and cream).

i heard the creme brulee at le cellier is safe and that the choc cake at cosmic rays, so we will try these. (and of course check again first)

We haven't tried Sanaa yet, but we've eaten at Boma and Jiko numerous times with DD, who is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. As long as the chef comes to your table and helps you figure out what would be safe, I'm sure you'll be fine. :goodvibes

We are going to the California Grill and my daugher has peanut & tree nut allergies. Has anyone been there who has had those allergies? Thanks

Been Cali Grill 2x with Tree nut allergy. Everything went well (am also allergic to sesame). Not sure about peanut allergy, but they were good at handling my allergies.

How about California Grill for Peanut & Tree Nut allergies

We have been a few times to the California Grill with my PN/TN DD. They were especially accommodating to her food allergies and were knowledgable about the menu. Even sent out a big bowl of peas because my DD, then 3, said they were her favorite.

DVCDawn :tink:

The issue with yak and yeti and chefs are that they are not wdw owned so food allergies are dealt with using the high wdw standards. It's interesting how different people are told safe/unsafe on the same items. Like funnel cakes I've definitely had safely in MK. Bread at chefs was fine when I ate there as well. They aren't good if you need something changed but I wanted the roasted chicken do all was good. Worst on property allergy experience for me was Grand Floridian cafe. They had no safe dessert options or sides other than fries (I'm also allergic to beans). Not even prepackaged stuff.

When I e-mailed with Brenda Bennett last spring before our trip, she told me that the funnel cake mix was produced by Gold Medal and processed in a plant with peanuts. Did you get other information, or is that not a problem for you? We avoid those for our child, but I know not everyone needs to. I'd love to be able to have these!
Thanks!

Allergies are so complicated. I am able to eat things manufactured in the same plant with nuts as long as it's not the same equipment . I guess that's why we always have to check and re-check ;)

For Earl of Sandwich I emailed their corporate office and they were pretty helpful. In the store though I lost trust on the packaged desserts because the choc and white cupcakes had the exact same ingredient list which couldn't be true because no choc listed and the sprinkle ingredients weren't listed either. Sandwich was cooked by mgr on allergy safe grill but they do serve grilled PB which makes me nervous.

We are going to be eating at EOS this year with peanut.tree nut allergy. Were the sandwiches safe to eat? All of them or was there only a few?
Thanks!

We got back two weeks ago from 8 days on the dining plan. My DD has tree nut allergy and we avoid peanuts as well. We had no real worries at all. We ate at the following places:

Coral Reef - No problems
Akershhus Royal Banquet Hall (dinner) - No problems, just to avoid certain items on the buffet, I belive it was the bread
Backlot Express - CS - they were great here, allergy items are cooked fresh here and provided a prepacked cookie
Columbia Harbor House - CS - no problems
Hoop Dee Doo Revue - they do not use any nut or tree nut products
Yak & Yeti - per the chef there was only one dressing that my daughter couldn't eat ... it was on an adult menu item, so it wasn't of concern for us
Morroco Fast Food - This was a little difficult, the chef was great, there were choices for my daughter, but her pickiness resulted in us going to the America fast food.
Kona Cafe - No problems with kids menu choices, but the bread on the table and the butter (macademia nut) had to be avoided
Pizzafari - No trouble finding something to eat here
Tutto Italia - The bread and the desserts had to be avoided here ... they provided a prepackaged cookie
Teppan Edo - Great, we had no troubles here

This was our first trip with nut allergy issues. All of our meals wonderful. Disney handles these issues very well. I had no troubles with the Yak & Yeti, I had considered not going here and decided to just give it a try. They were very helpful and as I said there was nothing on the childrens menu that we had to avoid. I did get a tip from another Mom who had children with allergies, we were waiting for special orders at the same time. I hadn't really thought of this, but the food at the Counter Service places can be extremely hot if its made to order in a dedicated frier.

We ate at the CG back in May with my Peanut and Tree nut allergic DD.

We had a fanastic meal there. She had a salad and the mac and cheese. They made her a fun fruit plate for dessert shaped like a snail. I want to say they use Haagen Daz ice cream and we don't allow her to eat that.

We also ate at:

Chef Mickey's - chef called me at home b/c I was worried about the waffles (DD then had an egg allergy).

The Wave - ate there twice for dinner, very accomodating and nice.

1900 Park Fare - dinner - chef went through the buffet items with us, went fine

Crystal Palace - dinner - chef went through the buffet items with us, went fine and she had Diivies Cookies at dessert

For our next trip I'd like to try

Ohanas (nervous though)
Maybe another restaurant at the GF - Citricos (although they have a peanut butter dip and PBJ on the kids menu) or Narcoossee's
