I am trying to find options besides the Radisson, since we will have a rental car and don't have to depend on the shuttle, since we'll use the Budget or Avis one.
The best I'm getting at the Radisson (Expedia) is a 2 room suite at $120, but that is the king bed w/ sofa bed.
I can get the Best Western oceanfront for $109--not oceanfront, but we can still use the amenities. There are two restaurants there--Perkins and Durango Steakhouse, although I want to take the family to Grills Friday night.
The Holiday Inn Express is across A1A from the ocean and the best rate I'm getting is $129, but we would get a free breakfast the morning we leave.
Has anyone used the Best Western or Holiday Inn Express? I had a bad hotel experience in Tennessee last month and I like a clean hotel that also SMELLS clean. I'd like a couple of positive reviews before I go any further.
Thanks,
Robin M.

(although I have not been successful yet but it is still WAY off for us) If you go to www.biddingfortravel.com you will find lots of infor on cocoa beach hotels, you can (after reading the faq's) submit a bidding help request and they will guide you as to the best/lowest bid. Many people have gotten the doubletree ocean front for around 40.00 a night.

We plan on staying at the Holiday Inn Express 2/27/04. I'll let everyone know our opinion when we return. From what I've been told it's a nice, clean property. We booked on the HIE website for much less than what you were quoted (I booked it last July). Good luck with your planning!

I haven't stayed at the Holiday Inn, BUT I have gone through it and it does look very clean - be aware that it is next to the new Publix that is just beginning - it is going to be awesome - if you want something inexpensive - you have to go to Motel 6 - the newpaper's front page article today was that over 20,000 people come and stay in cocoa beach and cape canaveral every week - gee I wondered why all the traffic jams -
Anyhow if I can help, let me know
Hey plutopup - you will be looking right at my condo if you are high enough - I am a short block right behind you to your Northwest.
I will wave

We are coming in the evening before the cruise and will have a rental car. I have zero interest in a pool or beach access or any sort of amenities except a CLEAN room. Is that Motel 6 okay?

I am currently looking at the Hampton Inn, which generally is nice and has a good breakfast included, but if the Motel 6 was clean and cheap then it would be even better.

We just got rooms at the Doubletree in Cocoa Beach on Priceline for $44 dollars a night , for early June. I got the suggestion from this board- thank you very much. I just bid on a 3 star hotel- was very easy. Then I called the Doubletree to make sure we could get double beds in the rooms. They were very nice - very easy to get along with.

Stayed at the Best Western last March. Room was clean and had a kitchenette. Ate at both places, food was good. The pool was overly crowded so we skiped it and played in the ocean instead. Not to far from the port or from Ron Jons. Not a bad place to spend a night.

I would echo parrothead365's observations. We stayed in the tower (no kitchenette), but even the non-oceanfront rooms are close to the beach, and they have a special deal for cruisers (you can park your car for free in their lot, and they will shuttle you to the port). See: http://www.bestwesterncocoabeach.com/hotel.html. I'm assuming you've already checked out Dave's very helpful rundown on the various Cocoa Beach digs.

Dave is right for it is right as for being on the main highway of A1A, but my overflow of kids didn't mind staying there - Dave has a great run down on this whole town since he checks it out pretty through each time he gets a chance to come down.

motels and hotels are going to be up there in cost - as I said earlier, the newspaper was telling of the influx of people staying here every week and I can attest to the traffic - Norm and I are stunned at the amount of traffic.
anyhow good luck

Hey Robin,

Did you think about staying at the new Ron Jon Resort in Cocoa Beach? This place looks absolutely gorgeous and has a 217' water slide and lazy river to float around in. Here's the link:

http://www.ronjonresort.com/default.shtml

The prices don't seem too bad either. I got a 1 bedroom studio that sleeps 4 people for $75 with a discount code. Would've been $100. Even at the original price, it beat the Radisson for me. Since this is a new place, there shouldn't be any problems.

Do a search, there are a couple of threads about this place.

We just stayed at the Holiday Inn Express Jan 23, 2004 and it was very nice. Easy to get to and they have a nice breakfsast included. Also places to eat across the street. We are doing another cruise in Jan 05 and will stay there again.

Thanks for the HIE review. Glad to hear that everything went well. Did you rent a car? If so were there any problems with the drop off? Thanks for your help.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn in November & we liked it. Very clean, staff is very friendly, free lobby internet access & free breakfast- very nice. Pool is smaller than Radisson, but really nice too.

You can walk to the beach, there's a path. It is close to Ron Jon's & stores for supplies are across the street. It is on the same side of the street as Avis. Drive there, drop the car & on the Avis shuttle. Very simple...

I would stay there again. We used our Hilton points & stayed free. It runs 89-109 a night.

I will be interested to hear how this Marriott is rated on the boards. I booked it for a couple nights as I have Marriott gift certficates that will more than take care of the bill. I hope it's decent....

The Marriott Courtyard was directly across from the Hampton Inn- they share the same parking area with one more hotel ( forget that one's name) The Courtyard looked very nice as well. Same beach access- path to walk down to the beach. Looked like both The Courtyard & Hampton Inn are fairly new.

The Hampton is unfortunately already sold out for the night we need. The Radisson is also out of the whirlpool suites they had last week for $120 on Expedia and only has $114 regular rooms. I called last night and they said their rooms are getting limited, but my dad promised my sister no more decisions would be made without a meeting about it! We may book the rooms from the hotel websites and then cancel if she gets upset (we can't book on Expedia this way due to no refunds, though, but the Best Western rate is the same on the BW website.)
